Mary Skelter: Nightmares es una pieza clave para los aficionados al mazmorreo. Un RPG anime con una variopinta mezcla de géneros. Cuenta con gran complejidad y aceptable dificultad que al menos en mi caso, me ha supuesto un dulce reencuentro con mi PS Vita.

Mary Skelter: Nightmares as a title fascinates me because while it doesn’t do anything poorly (except maybe the latter parts of the story), it repeatedly comes just a bit short of greatness in almost everything that it does. Regular battles just comes down to pressing the same buttons repeatedly (its a staple of the genre, but still), the jobs don’t allow for the level of customization that the system provides and Nightmares have an annoying tendency of either showing up too often or not at all. Despite that, Mary Skelter: Nightmares is still strong enough as a whole to offer one of the most unique experience that Compile Heart has ever created. It might not be as good as Dungeon Travelers 2, but it certainly comes close. If you’re interested in dungeon crawlers, especially those on the PlayStation Vita then this is a must buy.

Se il genere dungeon crawler è spesso visto di cattivo occhio, soprattutto qui in Europa, il motivo va probabilmente cercato nella mancanza di inventiva e voglia di rinnovarsi che caratterizza buona parte dei titoli del genere, ancora troppo ancorati a meccaniche obsolete e spesso tediose. Mary Skelter: Nightmares, a dispetto dei pronostici, prende in prestito i più riusciti elementi del suddetto genere ludico e li mescola a meccaniche nuove e fantasiose, proponendo un cocktail gustoso e moderno. Il livello di personalizzazione ed il combat system in particolare, così vasto e caratterizzato da una curva di apprendimento particolarmente ostica, riusciranno di certo a fare la gioia di qualsiasi appassionato di RPG. Il tutto è infine contornato da una storia ben più riuscita di quanto visto nella maggior parte dei dungeon crawler che già oberano il parco giochi di PlayStation Vita. Peccato solo per i dialoghi prolissi tipici delle produzioni Compile Heart, i quali contengono spesso informazioni irrilevanti e fungono da deterrente per i giocatori meno inclini a leggere lunghi quantitativi di testi in lingua inglese.

Mary Skelter: Nightmares provides an enjoyable dungeon crawling RPG where fans of Compile Hearts' previous games will gladly lose themselves in the living hell known as Jail. The overall experience has a lot of residual DNA from Meiq inside but this feels more refined and mature, both in aesthetic and game mechanics. A lot of tropes common to their titles including the risque humor is of course present but that's also been part of the appeal of their titles. While it won't blow anyone away, Mary Skelter: Nightmares is a well put together, enjoyable experience and a worthy addition to any dungeon crawler RPG fan's collection.

Pas avare en idées nouvelles, Mary Skelter Nightmares délaisse paradoxalement le cœur du gameplay des D-RPG pour être plus accessible et finalement faire mieux apprécier ses nouveautés. L'ajout du sentiment d'appréhension et de panique, l'excellent design, l'histoire plus travaillée et la touche Compile Heart cette fois bien présente le rendent assez divertissant malgré des combats mornes et des donjons qui tirent en longeur. Captivant mais pas parfait, Mary Skelter Nightmares est néanmoins le titre le plus abouti de Compile Heart cette année.
