With that said, there's still a lot to see in Alien Crush Returns, and it makes for a fun experience. Online leaderboards are available for every map, and include both score and time trial modes. You can connect online with friends, region players, or worldwide and play four-player vs. ball, and the promise of additional downloadable content in the form of extra stages (the game is a little too short now) and action abilities could open up the package substantially. While story mode is a bit simple, the animation and overall visual presentation the game is pretty impressive overall, and at the end of the day, the game is fun enough to warrant an 800 point purchase if you're into pinball, or were a fan of the older Alien Crush/Devil's Crush games. It isn't perfect, but it's certainly a fun game to play between lengthier, full-fledged Wii titles. Hopefully the downloadable content delivers, as it could really flesh out a package that is -in its current state - fun, but shallow.
Oh, and as a message to Hudson, we'd have no problem paying $50 for a gigantic space epic Alien Crush with dozens of stages, extra modes, local multiplayer, and a more fleshed out "guilty pleasure" story. Alien Crush Returns is fun. Now we want more.
