Little Nightmares III faithfully preserves the oppressive mood, clever environmental puzzles, and visceral unease associated with the series, but feels like an echo of what came before. While its dark allure remains potent, the baffling absence of local co-op undercuts the game’s most ambitious feature. Though its multiplayer concept shines in theory, the absence of a character-swap feature to enrich single-player mode feels like another missed opportunity.

Yooka-Replaylee aims to overhaul a platformer that was rife with frustrating issues, and while it does feel better for it, none of its changes do enough to bring it close to the 3D platforming standards of today. Improvements to the movement of both your camera and character, the upgraded graphics, and the removal of unnecessary annoyances like having to unlock abilities over time are all fantastic changes. But all of the bending that was done to modernize this thing has resulted in an almost equal number of drawbacks, like a story that has been unsatisfyingly chopped up and a search for Pagies that feels a bit too easy given how many are now crammed into each area. So unless your nostalgia for this kind of 3D platformer is particularly strong, there aren’t a ton of compelling reasons to revisit this one.

Despite a pair of new protagonists and the inclusion of two-player support for the first time in the series, Little Nightmares 3 doesn’t do enough to distinguish itself from the previous two adventures, making each step through its shadowy structures less full of dread and more like a retread. There are some memorably morbid moments here and there, and the Carnavale chapter is a standout, but the constant crate-pushing and instant-fail chase sequences feel all too familiar at this point. Little Nightmares 3 features little innovation, few scares, and limited appeal if you’ve already played the previous two games, unless you’re dead keen to experience the series’ signature brand of stop-start stealth with a friend in tow.

Little Nightmares III è il solito, piccolo, squisito incubo confezionato attorno alle paure di due bambini che fuggono da un mondo di "grandi" disgustosi. La novità più concreta è la cooperativa online, che consente a due videogiocatori di collaborare sfruttando le capacità uniche di ogni personaggio. Alla ricerca, però, di un equilibrio tra un videogioco che è possibile completare anche da soli e uno dove la cooperazione tra giocatori conta davvero, Little Nightmares III non spinge troppo su questa componente, rendendola sì piacevole, ma mai centrale. Per il resto, è reiterazione di momenti e situazioni che abbiamo già vissuto nei capitoli precedenti. Ci sarebbe piaciuto vedere più il punto di vista di Supermassive Games alle prese con questo universo e non la conferma di certi canoni.

Little Nightmares III emerge soprattutto come occasione sprecata. Con un cambio alla direzione, si profilava la possibilità che la serie restasse viva e prendesse un nuovo corso, dimostrando coraggio proprio nel momento in cui sarebbe servito. Invece, Supermassive trattiene la mano, cercando di fare un po' di tutto senza concludere niente e implementando nuove dinamiche che tuttavia lasciano il tempo che trovano, data la pochissima influenza sul gameplay. Ne risulta un esercizio di ricalco, che si sforza di emulare quanto fatto da Tarsier Studios ma manca sia del suo guizzo, com'è ovvio, sia soprattutto di un tocco personale lato Supermassive. Se la saga avrà un futuro, la speranza è che lo studio si operi per creare qualcosa di meno ordinario e più intrigante.

Little Nightmares III è in definitiva un buonissimo gioco, ma che è stato sfruttato solo a metà. Non ci riferiamo solamente alla semplicità dei vari enigmi, ai quali ci siamo comunque in un certo senso abituati, ma soprattutto alle potenzialità evidentemente non sfruttate che avrebbe avuto il gioco in modalità cooperativa. In un periodo storico dove il multiplayer cooperativo sta vivendo una seconda giovinezza, e dove abbiamo visto nascere vere e proprie perle, avremmo reputato lecito trovarci di fronte qualcosa di nuovo anche in Little Nightmares III, cosa che invece non è affatto accaduta. La sensazione è che quasi valga la pena giocare il titolo in single player, dato che a cambiare le carte in tavola c'è "solamente" (non in modo sminuente) la possibilità di giocare la storia con un amico. Rimane la curiosità per il DLC, in arrivo prossimamente, che forse andrà in un certo senso a riparare qualche mancanza, magari dal punto di vista narrativo.

Sans surprise, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 se présentent comme des indispensables pour qui n’a jamais eu l’occasion d’y jouer sur Wii à l’époque. Inutile de tortiller, les jeux sont absolument excellents et font partie des meilleures aventures du plombier. Généreux en termes de contenu, ingénieux et créatifs dans leurs mécaniques et le renouvellement de leurs environnements, les deux opus sont une vraie mine d’or. Évidemment, la Nintendo Switch 2 leur permet de briller encore plus grâce à la 4K notamment et à une fluidité de tous les instants. Seul bémol : il n’y a aucune nouveauté majeure si ce n’est un mode ultra facile et quelques pages de livre supplémentaires. Rien qui ne viendra pousser à l’achat les fans de la première heure, ceux qui ont déjà arpenté les deux jeux originaux de long en large.

A predictable but well-executed story takes you through Ghost of Yotei's gorgeous landscapes and satisfying, fluid action combat. With a new protagonist in Atsu as a vigilante who does not care about honor in her quest for revenge, you get a stronger lead character and an expanded weapon-set that elevates the gameplay principles set by Tsushima. Although the novelty has lost a bit of its sheen, the Kurosawa influence is still strong and used to great effect. So while it may not be transforming open world games, Ghost of Yotei is a great refinement of the samurai power fantasy.
