Relaxt, relaxter, Wheel World: Dieses Spiel bezaubert mit seinen sonnendurchfluteten Landschaften, seinem bunten Comic-Look und seinen chilligen Ausflugsmöglichkeiten. Wer ein adrenalingetränktes Rennspiel sucht, wird hier nicht wirklich fündig - dafür bietet Wheel World zu wenige Herausforderungen. Mit fünf bis sieben Stunden ist Wheel World ein vergleichsweise kurzes Vergnügen, fühlt sich andererseits aber auch nicht so überladen an wie viele andere Open-World-Games. Story und Charaktere bleiben an der Oberfläche, sind für den Genuss des Spiels aber auch nicht so entscheidend. Vielleicht ist es am besten, Wheel World nicht in erster Linie als kompetitives Rennspiel zu betrachten - sondern als fluffigen Sommerurlaub auf zwei Rädern.

Wild Hearts S is a satisfying, if unspectacular, addition to the Switch 2’s early library. The monster hunting and equipment building is just as rewarding and addictive as you would hope, and there’s tons of replayability here whether you’re playing solo or with friends.

Super Mario Party Jamboree is still the best entry in the series, but the new content of the Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV re-release adds frustrating limitations and strange design decisions to what was otherwise a polished, customizable experience. Its camera-focused content is pretty forgettable, but there are a few worthwhile additions like the great mouse control minigames and interesting new rulesets. However, it’s hard to enjoy them to the fullest due to how this content is divided across two separate versions that don’t talk to each other at all. Core features like achievements, unlockables, minigame records, and even rulesets are locked behind the Switch 1 version, which shockingly got zero performance or resolution updates like the Jamboree TV portion did. If the new stuff had been seamlessly integrated with the old under one umbrella, this would be a slam dunk. But as it stands, if you already own Jamboree, I only recommend upgrading if you’re really interested in the new content. And if you’re looking to buy Jamboree for the first time, it’s not like you’ll be disappointed by what’s here, but the things that Jamboree TV adds hardly feel worth the price when you could just pick up the cheaper Switch 1 version instead.

Killing Floor 3 is a polished sequel that feels both smartly streamlined and somewhat hollow. Its co-op shooting feels great, the classes are distinct, and my teammates and I had a good time blasting through Zed hordes together while the fun lasted. But with only eight maps, six classes, and a backwards weapon progression system that’s already in need of some tweaking, this comes across more like a solid Early Access build than a full release. The foundation is there, and if Tripwire keeps adding content like it did with Killing Floor 2, this could become something special. Right now, though, there’s at least enough for a weekend's worth of fun.

On est vraiment ravi d’écrire que Wuchang: Fallen Feathers est un excellent représentant du genre inspiré de la trilogie Dark Souls. Armé d’un habillage diablement réussi, ce RPG développé par un studio chinois s’appuie sur une exploration addictive et un gameplay ultra-profond pour convaincre. Et, il convainc. Il y a pourtant tant d’éléments sur lesquels Wuchang: Fallen Feathers pouvait se planter. À l’arrivée, on tient là l’un des meilleurs soulslike depuis bien longtemps, avec un équilibre bien tenu, des idées bien pensées et une structure bien construite. C’est assez rare pour être souligné.

Le monde superbe, vaste et riche de Wuchang : Fallen Feathers avait « seulement » besoin d'un gameplay léché pour trouver sa place parmi les meilleurs Souls-like. Malheureusement, une accumulation de petits défauts dans le système de combat empêchent le jeu de Leenzee de prétendre à ce statut. Le plus gros problème est la lourdeur de Wuchang, aussi bien pour attaquer que pour se déplacer et se soigner. Les boss, pour la plupart, sont capables d'attaquer frénétiquement, ce qui crée de gros soucis d'équilibrage. L'excitation qu'est censée procurer un combat de boss dans un Souls-like se fait donc trop rarement ressentir, même une fois la victoire acquise. Finalement, Wuchang : Fallen Feathers emprunte plus ou moins le même chemin que Lords of the Fallen : une réalisation de haute volée, mais trop de maladresses pour en faire un grand nom du genre.

Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World est un cas d’école. Derrière la refonte graphique satisfaisante se cache un jeu qui n’est pas inintéressant mais qui aurait pu bénéficier à l’occasion de la conception de son remake de modifications sur le fond pour atténuer quelques défauts. Les développeurs ont choisi au contraire de se cantonner à la reproduction la plus fidèle possible de l’expérience d’origine, avec ce que cela comporte de bon comme de mauvais. Il en ressort une expérience valable mais pas mémorable, courte, qui donne l’impression de ne jamais aller au bout de ses ambitions. 31 ans plus tard, cette mauvaise habitude se confirme.

Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV gives an already fantastic party game a huge shot in the arm, with a bunch of brilliant Mouse Mode and mic-based games that also allow you to see your big silly face as you play. It's all very knockabout, very easy to use, and very easy to enjoy.

Entre Lies of P, Black Myth : Wukong et, maintenant, Wuchang : Fallen Feathers, les studios de développement asiatiques secouent le genre du Souls-like, bien qu’ils aient pris le train en cours de route. Énième itération d’un genre à part entière qu’on ne présente plus, la création de Leenzee trouve l’équilibre parfait entre un Souls-like qui revient au source et un jeu dont le genre doit se réinventer sous peine de lasser. Au bout du compte, l’expérience promise par Wuchang : Fallen Feathers est honnête, robuste et sincèrement divertissante, à défaut d’amener une révolution. C’est dommage car il ne manque pas grand-chose à ses très bonnes idées pour en faire un fleuron du genre !

Shadow Labyrinth starts strong by doubling down on the weirdest pivot an old and beloved video game character has ever made, but 30ish hours later, I struggle to find any element of this metroidvania that wasn't done better somewhere else years ago. The MAZEs, where it’s ironically the most like its cardinal inspiration, are rad re-imaginings of the original Pac-Man formula that could make a decent game all by themselves. Everything else, from the exploration made tedious by a lack of direction and annoying checkpointing to the one-note combat that adds very little nuance outside of mashing and bashing, makes playing Shadow Labyrinth a largely dull experience. Sitting through the dialogue and sorting through this story were my greatest challenges, as my brain wandered its seemingly endless maze of lore chasing the ghosts of the intense, affecting promise teased by the Secret Level short this unexpected adaptation is based on.

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate isn’t the worst expansion the looter shooter’s been given, but it’s a major step back from The Final Shape in almost every regard, mixing content that’s simply more of the same with a few experiments here and there that don’t always work out. I quite enjoyed the surprising new direction of the story, though it’s definitely a bit of a slog getting through the campaign to see it all, and a so-so raid doesn’t do much to salvage it. The new abilities on Kepler are at least interesting ideas, but the forgettable and claustrophobic areas don’t offer many reasons to stick around. The changes to endgame progression are the real poison pill though, which turn an already grindy game into an absurdly repetitive death march into the bowels of Destiny hell that is sure to put even the loyalty of hardcore players like me to the test. There are worse ways to spend your time than playing The Edge of Fate, but you don’t have to look very hard to find better ones.
