Death Stranding 2: On the Beach espande con coraggio l’universo filosofico e post-apocalittico creato quasi sei anni fa da Hideo Kojima, arricchendo e diversificando il gameplay con nuove dinamiche action, pur senza riuscire a replicare la forza narrativa, il fascino dei personaggi e l’impatto emotivo del primo, spiazzante capitolo. Tecnicamente sontuoso e artisticamente ispirato, questo sequel riesce a divertire e intrattenere, ma lascia anche la sensazione che l’impianto narrativo non sia sempre in grado di sostenere senza cali di ritmo e intensità le decine di ore necessarie per giungere al termine dell’avventura.

Comme le premier épisode, Death Stranding 2 est un jeu qui va diviser, mais pas pour les mêmes raisons. Kojima Productions livre ici une suite plus grand public, aussi bien en matière d’écriture que de gameplay, et les puristes risquent de regretter la rugosité du titre de 2019. Mais ce que DS2 perd en “personnalité”, il le gagne en rythme, en variété. La progression est plus généreuse et stimulante que par le passé, et les phases d’action-infiltration accompagnent très bien une boucle de gameplay toujours aussi prenante, à base de livraison et d’optimisation de déplacement. Et puis, que dire de la technique et de la direction artistique, de très haute volée ! En bref, Death Stranding 2 est excellent, mais est-ce un grand jeu ? Il lui manque sans doute une petite étincelle pour ça…

The original Death Stranding held promise: A complex, often confusing, but never contrived first draft. A reflective journey across a lost America, it established a world and its rules with a flourish, even if I found it stumbled along the path. But in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Australia plays host to an expanded vision and is a more accomplished achievement in nearly every facet. It removes almost all of the friction that weighed down its rookie effort, delighting with a truly unpredictable story full of intrigue and malleable stealth-action playgrounds hidden in its vast, hauntingly beautiful version of Australia. Yes, at times, it is unapologetically weird – but that isn't what defines it. It's an inventive journey packed full of both shock and awe, the sort of bold work that deserves to be encouraged. No, it isn't perfect, but it's incredibly exciting and original, never once straying from the path less trodden, and I love it all the more for it.

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions have done it again by crafting an exciting, new, visually striking, and emotionally riveting journey. Death Stranding 2 boasts spectacular visuals and performance that gamers deserve from a AAA title in 2025. It also managed to blur the line between movies and video games multiple times. The story keeps players on their toes while letting them be in the moment and feel what Sam is feeling. The gameplay enhancements in the sequel don’t go unnoticed either, as the developers build upon a solid foundation of the first game and provide players with a new and improved experience. Everything combined makes Death Stranding 2: On the Beach a solid 'Game Of The Year' (GOTY) contender for this year.

On se demande ce qu’Hideo Kojima avait derrière la tête quand il a développé Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Tout talentueux et inspiré qu’il soit, il est tombé dans une sacrée impasse en estimant pouvoir faire deux fois le même chef-d’œuvre. Époustouflant visuellement et très bien réalisé, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach pâtit d’une structure trop similaire à son prédécesseur. Et ce qui fonctionnerait pour un jeu au gameplay classique ne l’est pas pour une expérience atypique. En ressemblant trop à Death Stranding, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach ne plaira pas plus aux réfractaires. Quant aux fans, ils seront sans doute nombreux à se demander : à quoi bon ? L’univers est certes enrichi, mais Hideo Kojima appuie un peu trop sur les curseurs pour pondre une histoire digeste. Il y a des moments inoubliables, mais aussi le sentiment de s’être fait avoir. Comme parfois avec l’art. Et si le but était une fois encore de polariser, alors la mission est accomplie.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach è Hideo Kojima all'ennesima potenza, è un videogioco talmente immerso nel linguaggio e nell'immaginario di cui il creativo è innamorato che, a tratti, è come se l'autore avesse preso il sopravvento sulla sua stessa opera. Configurandosi come un grande "Death Stranding 2.0", sceglie di ancorarsi a una struttura e una progressione identiche a quelle del primo capitolo per poi potenziare ogni elemento del gameplay, che si tratti della progettazione del mondo aperto, della grezza quantità d'opzioni alla base del sistema di consegne o delle meccaniche del combattimento d'azione. Si tratta ancora di un assoluto unicum, di un'esperienza legata a una poetica unica nel suo genere che sfrutta la musica e la potenza delle immagini per scatenare sensazioni che non si possono trovare in nessun'altra produzione. In questo caso, tuttavia, la narrazione, la costruzione del mondo, la fantasia e la struttura generale non riescono a muoversi in maniera organica, spalancando diverse crepe nella vicenda di Sam Porter Bridges.

Recensione Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: Il capolavoro finale di Hideo Kojima Death Stranding 2: On the Beach è un’opera che divide, che sfida, che non cerca mai di piacere a tutti. E proprio per questo riesce a lasciare un segno più profondo. Hideo Kojima torna a parlare di connessioni, ma questa volta lo fa in un mondo che non ha più bisogno di essere unito: lo fa in un mondo che deve imparare a convivere con le proprie fratture, con le sue ombre, con le sue memorie spezzate. È un videogioco che parla di lutto e di speranza, di scelte collettive e sacrifici personali, ma che riesce a restare un gioco nel senso più puro e profondo del termine. Dal punto di vista ludico, il titolo evolve con coerenza la formula originale, integrando nuove meccaniche, ritmi più dinamici e una struttura più stratificata, dove la componente narrativa e quella gestionale si incontrano senza mai scontrarsi. Non tutto è perfetto: alcune sezioni risultano ancora troppo lente, certe scelte di gameplay potrebbero disorientare chi si aspetta un’azione più continua, e qualche passaggio narrativo rischia di risultare eccessivamente criptico. Ma sono piccole crepe in un’opera che riesce, ancora una volta, a essere visionaria, fragile e potentemente umana. Il comparto tecnico su PS5 rasenta l’eccellenza: caricamenti fulminei, pulizia visiva, stabilità granitica, senza rinunciare al dettaglio artistico che rende ogni inquadratura degna di uno scatto fotografico. Il DualSense viene sfruttato in modo eccellente, così come l’audio 3D e il feedback aptico, rendendo ogni passo, ogni goccia di pioggia e ogni battito del cuore del BB parte viva dell’esperienza. In definitiva, Death Stranding 2 è molto più di un sequel. È un’opera seconda che riscrive il senso della prima, un nuovo viaggio che non cancella il precedente ma lo trasforma, lo rielabora, lo sublima. È uno di quei giochi che chiedono fiducia, tempo, e un pizzico di abbandono. Ma se ci si lascia andare, On the Beach riesce a toccare corde che raramente il videogioco moderno osa sfiorare. Death Stranding 2 est le genre d’œuvre qui répond à lui tout seul à la question « Qu’est-ce qui fait un grand jeu ? ». Une fois de plus, Hideo Kojima et son studio démontrent un savoir-faire indéniable lorsqu’il s’agit de raconter une histoire et de la mettre en scène de la meilleure façon qui soit. On apprécie les améliorations disséminées ici et là, qu’il s’agisse de l’interface, du gameplay ou même du rythme global de l’aventure qui la rend définitivement accrocheur. Ici, les 50 heures de jeu sont passées assez vite pour que l’on se dise qu’on en aurait bien pris 50 autres en rab. Mais puisque les meilleures choses ont une fin, on se consolera en se disant qu’on a ri, on a été émus, on a été surpris et on a été émerveillés comme cela arrive peu dans un jeu vidéo.
