Overall though, The Bureau is something of a disappointment. It feels like a compromise, an awkward mix of shooter and strategy game in which neither element is allowed to shine. Shooter fans will most likely be reminded of superior titles like Uncharted and Gears of War, while strategy fans will be prompted to revisit the excellent XCOM: Enemy Unknown. As it stands, The Bureau is a perfect example of the dangers of attempting to appeal to everybody, proving that, more often than not, you won't appeal to anybody.

Gone Home isn't a long game; the time taken to complete it is comparable to that of the average movie, even if you inspect the house thoroughly - and like most films, Gone Home's narrative is most enjoyable the first time round. But in the same way as the best flicks that you can rewatch time after time, I see myself returning to the Greenbriar household in the future.

Remakes are always controversial and successfully producing them can be an incredibly difficult, thankless task. While VectorCell's effort isn't the worst attempt I've ever seen, it certainly isn't the nostalgic celebration it could and should have been. If you're looking for a fun retro classic with a modern lick of paint, try WayForward's DuckTales: Remastered, because regrettably Flashback is an experience best forgotten.

"I had a lot of fun re-experiencing this time-honoured childhood classic. Having said that, I fall directly into WayForward’s target demographic; those who played and loved the original. If the same is true for you, this re-imagining will likely make for a delightful, nostalgia-laced experience. However, if DuckTales is unexplored territory for you, I could definitely see its old-fashioned gameplay and brutal difficulty being quite off-putting."

When Deus Ex: The Fall was first announced, people were pissed. Expecting a next-gen sequel, people got an iOS game. I had my own reservations. Not because it wasn’t a ‘proper game’, but because developer, N-Fusion, don’t exactly have a proven track record with this sort of game.

Without a doubt, the game is best experienced when its straddling the line between the three worlds.Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a game not just meant to be played, but one that rewards mastery. There are layers within its mechanics, many of which can be explored in its punishing one-life arcade mode, and denied in its shallow duel mini-games. But by contextualizing the campaign as a series of questionable memories, it's able to instill a sense of intrigue, pace and surprise throughout the story and the gameplay.

There’s something in the coffee at Access Games, and it isn’t sugar. Deadly Premonition is totally unique, massively ambitious and batshit crazy. It’s a game where even the bullets don’t mark the walls, yet the protagonist - FBI Agent, Francis York Morgan - has to cope with real-time beard growth that the player can shave off at their whim.
