If you go into 4 Elements HD with an open mind, you’ll find a worthwhile game well worth the price of admission. It’s not a game that will take you an incredible amount of time to complete, nor will it keep you coming back for more once you do blaze through the entire experience. But that’s the idea. As a bite-sized, relatively cheap PSN game, 4 Elements HD will keep you busy for a couple of weekends or for a week after work. And what more could you ask for?

Driver: San Francisco has one game-changing, eyebrow-raising idea and it pulls it off with aplomb, infusing the OTT arcade racing with unparalleled variety and a ridiculous supernatural twist whilst staying true to its Seventies chase-movie roots. It looks great, it’s got a lot of personality, it tells an entertaining story and it’s great fun to play. A few frustrating difficulty spikes and the story’s rather premature ending are the only negatives.

The improvements to Madden NFL 12 are small, but they’re spread over every facet of the game. Madden fans are getting a tighter, more finely tuned game. AI is smarter and more accurate, the lighting and animations are more realistic, and the Franchise is more expansive. It’s disappointing that there are still areas where other sports titles are outshining Madden, and with no new gameplay modes it’s hard to recommend it to players who were bored last year. However, in terms of pure gameplay, Madden NFL 12 looks better, hits harder, and runs faster than ever before.

If you’ve never played Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor before, this 3DS version might be worth picking up, unless you can find the original for cheaper (which shouldn’t be too hard). The innovative mix of various RPG sub-genres results in an intriguing and incredibly fun overall package. However, given the original came out so recently, it’s rather confusing why this barely enhanced version even exists. If you’ve already played the game, there’s really no need to spend $40 on a newish version to play it again.

Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition is the best Street Fighter game to be released on the downloadable market yet. It’s the same game many of you have been playing for the last 12 years, only improved in every area. With a slick and vibrant visual upgrade, excellent online functionality and impressive new training modes, Capcom has delivered yet another stellar refinement of an old classic. Fighting fans shouldn’t have to think twice about purchasing this game.

When I beat Bastion for the first time, I reloaded my save and played through for the second ending. When that was done, I started my new game plus. I'm not the repeat type of gamer, but Bastion's leveling, weapon upgrades, and difficulty tweaks are just too gosh-darn addictive. The story could've been better, but it doesn't matter. This game is amazing and you owe it to yourself to download it.

People bitch and moan about annual sports games receiving minimal updates, but try waiting four years just to get your hands on the exact same game with the bulk of its best bits removed. Rugby World Cup 2011 feels almost like the "lite" version of a more fully-featured game - as though you should get this for a pittance before paying an additional fee to unlock the rest, like so many iPhone games. Only in this case there's nothing more to get - other than a refund.

iBlast Moki 2 is a worthy sequel. Patient players looking for a brain bending challenge will eat the title up, as long as they don’t mind a few wonky control issues. The addition of excellent support for user generated content will keep the game fresh for months to come, as well. This sequel doesn’t feel quite as special as the original – the App Store is a much more mature games portal now – but iBlast Moki 2 still stands as an excellent puzzler.

So Flight Control hasn't overstayed its welcome quite yet. Had this new WiiWare port been one-player only, I know I wouldn't have cared for it – the cursor control, by yourself, is not a great control option for this design. But the wise inclusion of multiplayer balances out and overcomes those concerns for me, so if you've got enough friends around who are interested in becoming air traffic controllers alongside you, drop five more bucks on this latest version of the addictive modern classic.

Aside from its uninspired combat and limited scope, Pirates of Black Cove is an endearing game at times. I wanted to love it, and kept diving back in hoping that something would click. It didn’t. The hokey character dialogue and D-list voice acting grew on me, and the vibrant vistas in the sprawling world map’s oceanic terrain are beautiful. It’s too bad so many other areas of the game sputter and flop like a beached whale. This pirating RTS adventure hints at depth and promise but just doesn’t deliver.

I never developed a cadence while playing El Shaddai. The game has absolutely no rhythm. And most importantly, even after beating it, I never felt like I really got anywhere. I never felt like I excelled at the game even though I saw it through to the end. I never felt that I was getting better. I was simply going through the motions. And the motions were terribly boring and tested my patience more often than I’d like to admit. A second playthrough with the HUD certainly provides for an improved experience. And the game’s aesthetics are its saving grace. But regardless, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron simply isn’t a good game. And that’s too bad, because it certainly had the makings of one.

For everyone who already played No More Heroes on the Wii, No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise probably doesn't offer enough to merit a replay on PS3. But for all of you who never played it the first time around, go get Heroes' Paradise. Seriously, like, now. Everyone needs to play this game, despite its imperfections, because its uniqueness deserves your attention. Pick up this crazy, super stylistic, ultraviolent adventure. It shines, despite its technical shortcomings. Go decapitate some f---heads.

Toy Soldiers: Cold War nails the 80’s toy aesthetic while blending great strategy and action gameplay under one democratic roof. While there may be camera problems, the thrill of the fight is too great to deny in this living toy box. As your Commando Action Figure freedoms his way through fifty troops with a machine gun and bazooka at the same time, you’ll be hard-pressed to wipe the smile off of your face.

Trapped Dead has some good ideas and its low price tag (a mere $10 on Steam) may be very tempting. Killing the first few zombies in the tutorial level alone shows the violence and tactical planning that could have made the game something special. As you progress however, all the bugs, all the inconsistent controls, all the unbalanced gameplay, and the awful checkpoint system completely ruin the experience. As of this writing, there is a patch in the works, but Trapped Dead ultimately feels like an unfinished game.
