Dead Block is a prime example of failed execution in almost every respect. It controls poorly, the levels are boring, and the trap/barrier concept is never very well explored. There’s still room for a clever zombie title in the crowd of games mining that vein, but Dead Block squanders its cool concept and ends up braindead.

NCAA Football 12 is great. I love the coaching changes in Dynasty, Road to Glory isn't perfect but has good ideas, and the new presentation tweaks really make the games feel special. The gameplay is the sweetness fans expect, but it's largely unchanged. That's not a knock -- you don't need to reinvent the wheel every year -- but it does keep NCAA Football 12 from feeling like a groundbreaking experience. Instead, it's more like a special edition of NCAA Football 11, which I'm more than happy to play for hours and hours.

Ms. Splosion Man is another excellent, thrilling platformer from the insane team at Twisted Pixel. This one is a little harder than the first, so be warned that you are in for a serious challenge. But there is more creativity packed into one Ms Splosion Man level than many other games can muster in their entirety, so I definitely recommend everyone check it out.

There are numerous shooters that use PlayStation Move. Time Crisis: Razing Storm and The Shoot are on rails, and games like SOCOM 4 and Killzone 3 also offer Move support. All of them are better options, and all of them offer multiplayer, either locally or online. PlayStation Move Ape Escape is an embarrassing, shovelware shooter that feels more like a bargain bin Wii title than a first party affair.

Considering Super Street Fighter IV was never released on PC, the additions offered in the Arcade Edition are substantial. The roster is expanded from 25 to 39, there is a greatly increased number of modes for online play, and the replay channel is a drastic improvement over what was offered in the original Street Fighter IV. It's a fighting game with a huge amount of depth, featuring some of the most finely tuned, flexible combat mechanics you'll find. If you're not a hardcore fighting game fan but always wanted to check a game out, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition is an excellent choice. And for any serious fighting game fan who mysteriously hasn't already purchased the console version, this should not be passed up.

Record of Agarest War Zero retains solid combat and some interesting mechanics, but very little has changed since its predecessor came out last year. It’s a tough sell for anyone fresh to the strategy experience, but delivers a solid and lengthy campaign for those who know the territory. If you liked Record of Agarest War, you’ll feel right at home in this prequel which doesn’t dare change up the original formula.

Mystery Case Files: The Malgrave Incident’s by-the-numbers mixture of archaic adventure mechanics and boring hidden object puzzles will not satisfy a vast majority of gamers, and its insanely low-resolution graphics and limited soundtrack won’t appeal to the eyes or the ears. This is a game created for a casual niche, however, and to that niche, it may very well be a success, especially if you’re looking for something with local multiplayer. But even at its inherently-discounted price, The Malgrave Incident is best left on the shelf in lieu of something else, unless you’re specifically shopping for someone who gets their kicks picking random objects out of a picture, or if you want an exceedingly-rare throwback to the all-but-deceased adventure genre of yore.

For the longtime fans, this is what you like (though even fans should be disappointed at the lack of variety in Gundam 3). There are online co-op missions and a long single-player campaign with hundreds of characters and mechs to upgrade. New gamers, however, should expect more from a video game these days. Gundam 3 feels and looks dated. It can't stack up against other action games, even ones published by the same company.

Anyone hoping for an arcade football experience won’t find what they’re looking for here; this is no NFL Blitz. Backbreaker Vengeance provides a few rounds of fun, but the control problems, price point, and lack of variety and real football stand as glaring indicators that this experience probably should have stayed on a mobile platform.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior on PS3 is even more disappointing than its sister releases last year. The feeling of missed potential and lack of polish is sharper given the additional year of development time. It looks and runs worse, and fails to address the hyper-linear level design that doomed the original release to the bargain bin. It’s the rare example of a definitive version that only brings into sharper focus why the original failed.

I liked Back to the Future: The Game, but I didn't love it and that sucks. The first two episodes had me hooked but the next three lost me as they got more and more crazy. I have no problem with a developer trying new things and taking franchises to new places, but starting off serious and ending goofy left me unimpressed. Back to the Future: The Game is good and an enjoyable journey, but it's not without issues.

There are a few other dual-stick shooters in the PlayStation Store, but Gatling Gears is one of the best. It doesn't have much in the way of new ammunition -- this is essentially a 1985 arcade game with the modern conveniences provided by the PlayStation Network. But it is a joy to play. The intricately detailed environments make for a world you actually want to save. And if that hippy crap doesn't cut it for you, know that mowing down hordes of tiny men in what is essentially an AT-ST from Star Wars is just as satisfying as it sounds.

Alien Zombie Megadeath is one of those surprising games that I never intended to purchase, but nonetheless really enjoy. A boredom-induced Sunday encouraged me to download it off of the PlayStation Network, and I am totally happy that I did. This isn’t a game that will impress you with its presentation, graphical flair or audio (after all, the team that made it only consists of three people). But what will impress you is its addictive gameplay, and all of the ways the title convinces you to come back for more. And at $7.99, it’s a total steal, especially when you consider how over-priced so many downloadable games are today.

Planeswalkers 2012 strikes a big chord with my inner Magic nerd. If you're thirsting for another major round of card-battling wizardry, then the extra cards, fresh play options, and new presentation make it worth diving into this remix. The gameplay is as tight as ever, though when it comes to deck-building and card selection, there's still a lot of room for the series to grow before it reaches the same level of meticulous depth found in the tabletop game it's based on. Regardless, this edition shows vast improvement.

Cars 2 is a great multiplayer game that rivals Mario Kart. Playing alone isn’t quite as fun, but it’s still a solid solo experience. The fact that there’s little story doesn’t really matter because you won’t miss it, and don’t let the license scare you off. Under all the Pixar beauty is an extremely fun game.

For the already-converted, Labyrinth of Lost Souls is a more than solid dungeon crawler. Its fulsome selection of side-quests, items, and expansive dungeons could keep you exploring for many hours, making it excellent value. But it's hard to imagine it winning over the unconvinced or the uninitiated. At times, it seems wilfully obscure and unaccommodating, as if it doesn't want you to understand its esoteric ways: "This isn't for you; now, move along." But after time, you realise it's not hostile at all; it just expects a high degree of genre competence from you. Flatteringly, it assumes that before you enter the first dungeon you'll have bought a map (or have a sharp pencil to hand); that INT, PIE, LUC, VIT form a part of your active vocabulary; and that you're not impressed by immediate reward, but the deferred pleasures that come from spending hours accumulating XP in the dark and fastidiously tweaking your team’s stats and inventory. If that’s not you, then it’s hard to see how Wizardy: Labyrinth of Lost Souls will entertain rather than frustrate or perplex.
