Mighty No. 9 es un título entretenido, destinado a un público muy concreto que sepa valorar lo que quiere ofrecer, que no es otra cosa que un homenaje a los 8 y 16 bits, especialmente a Mega Man. Aunque un par de retoques le habrían venido bien.

Mighty No. 9 è un action-platform game di vecchia scuola, difficile e realizzato con dovizia e passione. Pur tenendosi volutamente ancorato a diversi stilemi ludici del passato, il titolo si dimostra anche fresco, attuale e divertente. Sfortunatamente sono da segnalare alcune ingenuità di troppo dal punto di vista tecnico, ma soprattutto una mancata organicità nel level design, difetti che negano alla creatura di Inafune l'eccellenza assoluta.

Possiamo prevedere che Mighty No. 9 non conquisterà molti nuovi giocatori all'old school. Questo per colpe non sue - le nuove generazioni non sono abituate a tale spietatezza - ma anche per colpe sue, che principalmente riguardano una componente grafica che non arriva alla sufficienza. Certo, anche l'occhio dei giocatori più anziani o di quelli che guardano più alla sostanza vuole la sua parte, ma è un occhio che può essere chiuso più facilmente se poi Mighty No. 9 dispensa, seppur non sempre e con qualche tentennamento e innaturalità di troppo, momenti, atmosfere, situazioni e sensazioni che sono proprio quelle che provavamo venti e trent'anni fa. Non è insomma il trionfo che ci si aspettava all'inizio, ma è ben lungi dal disastro che si temeva alla fine, e in ultimo va premiato pure per la gran quantità di contenuti a fronte di un prezzo budget.

Tanti i ritardi caduti su questo Mighty No. 9 ma alla fine siamo riusciti a mettere le mani su questo titolo proveniente direttamente dalla creatività di Keiji Inafune, creatore di Megaman. La struttura del gameplay rimane sul classico del genere ed aggiunge qualche novità che non stona affatto, ma che anzi si mischia alla perfezione a tutto il resto e risulta essere accessibile nonostante la difficoltà di base del titolo, tendente verso l'alto. Ci si aspettava però di più dal punto di vista del level design, raggiungendo un risultato finale che non riesce assolutamente a competere con i Megaman visti nel passato. Sicuramente non si tratta di un action platform che può essere considerato tra i top del genere, ma comunque è un titolo godibile e che consigliamo soprattutto a chi vuole ricordare i vecchi tempi videoludici.

Molti lo hanno accusato di essere una mera scopiazzatura di Megaman, altri ne hanno attaccato lo stile grafico e il suo “essere fuori tempo massimo”. Ma in fin dei conti, il nuovo gioco di Keiji Inafune non ha mai preteso di rivoluzionare il panorama videoludico. In un mercato sempre più dedito alla ricerca compulsiva di spettacolarità ed esplosioni in altissima definizione, la produzione di Comcept si configura come un prodotto estremamente di nicchia, desideroso di parlare soprattutto a tutti coloro che del robot umanoide di Inafune sentono davvero la mancanza. La struttura è in tutto e per tutto identica a quella di Megaman, così come buona parte delle dinamiche di gioco; anche il character design ricorda a grandi linee quello della serie del robot con un cannone al posto del braccio. Poco importa se il nome o i modelli dei personaggi sono diversi, dunque, perché ludicamente parlando non è cambiato quasi niente. Gli sforzi produttivi messi in campo dal team di sviluppo ci sono onestamente parsi tutt’altro che congrui con l’incasso milionario (ha sfiorato i quattro milioni di dollari) della campagna di raccolta fondi da cui il gioco è nato, ma il risultato è comunque più che dignitoso e potenzialmente molto divertente per tutti i fan di questa tipologia di prodotti.

Eigentlich bleibt trotz der zusätzlichen „Dash“-Option, dem schnellen Vorpreschen nach vorne, alles beim Alten: Keiji Inafunes neues Mega Man, ähhh: Mighty No. 9 bietet keine komplexe, aber dafür mitunter sauschwere Plattform-Action, die vor allem von den mehrstufigen Bossen lebt. Der weißblaue Roboter, der nicht nur über sein Aussehen die Brücke zu seinem bei Capcom lebenden Stiefbruder schlägt, hüpft, klettert und schießt wie zu guten alten NES-Zeiten. Und so sehr ich es zu schätzen weiß, dass hier der Retrogeist in einem modernen Gewand heraufbeschworen werden soll, fehlt mir hier das gewisse Etwas. Vielleicht liegt es daran, dass Inafune-San zu sehr in der Vergangenheit schwelgt, es mit Eigenzitaten übertreibt und es auch nicht mit der von Unreal angetriebenen Kulisse schafft, den nur horizontal schießenden Hüpfer zeitgemäß aussehen zu lassen. Die spröden Zwischensequenzen z.B. kommen wie der Rest des Spiels komplett ohne animierte Mimik aus. Doch auch der Rest schafft bestenfalls Durchschnittswerte und hat sowohl auf der PS4 als auch auf der One Probleme, eine durchweg stabile Bildrate zu halten. Anstatt das MegaMan-Konzept in neue Höhen zu hieven, ist Mighty No. 9 lediglich eine solide Hommage.

Che Mighty No. 9 non fosse un titolo destinato a tutti lo sapevamo da sempre, da quando tre anni fa la creatura di Keiji Inafune apparve quasi dal nulla e, con un Kickstarter da 4 milioni di dollari, diede il via al sogno del Designer di riportare in vita la propria IP più amata e fortunata. Perché Mighty No. 9, a ben vedere, altri non è che Mega Man: un nuovo eroe, nuovi personaggi e una storiella dal sapore anni ’80 imbastita di tecnologia futuristica, ma la concezione alla base del gameplay, la struttura degli scenari, persino il level e il character design non necessitano di uno sguardo particolarmente attento per tradire i propri illustri natali. Un citazionismo rivolto ad una limitata frangia di giocatori, attratti da quelle sfide bidimensionali a scorrimento del passato destinate poi a cedere il passo ad altri tipi di produzione. Mighty No.9 nasce sotto questa stella, ma evidentemente sceglie l’ascendente sbagliato. Una gestazione travagliata e ricca di imprevisti si traduce in ritardi sequenziali, destinati a loro volta a riflettersi in scelte di design a volte semplici, a volte semplicistiche, a volte addirittura opinabili. Assenza di innovazione, tecnologia carente e mancanza di carisma non sono difetti di poco conto, resi ancor più evidenti dal tempo richiesto da Comcept per portare a termine lo sviluppo, forse davvero eccessivo, e dal budget non certo irrisorio a disposizione. Mighty No. 9, alla fine della fiera, passerà alla storia come l’attesa meno ripagata dell’illustre Game Designer del Sol Levante, un titolo senza infamia né lode in grado di svolgere il proprio compito, ma incapace di reggere il peso del cannone del proprio predecessore. E questo è il suo peccato più grande.

Keiji Inafune ha tratado de resucitar una de sus obras más majestuosas de su trayectoria, Mega Man, pero no ha conseguido su propósito. Y es que si bien Mighty Nº 9 posee sus virtudes y es una aventura de acción y plataformas de desarrollo 2D que puede llegar a divertir a un grupo de usuarios, lo cierto es que queda lejos de lo que muchos esperaban. La falta de inspiración y de brillantez son evidentes y es difícil pasarlas por alto.

While some of the big criticisms that people had with the original version of the game still stand, Deadlight: Director’s Cut still feels like a fresh take on the zombie genre 4 years later. The narrative is brief and there are the occasional control issues that still pop up, but those things don’t take away much from the intensity that it is able to hold steady throughout its handful of hours of gameplay. It probably isn’t worth a return trip if you’ve already played the original game, but if this is your first time checking out the Deadlight world then this version is definitely the one to get.

Malgré son fort pedigree, Mighty No. 9 n'a pas l'air d'avoir saisi ce qui rendait Mega Man, et les actions-platformers en général, aussi fun. Ok, il y a bien quelques moments où la mayonnaise prend, mais ces derniers sont plombés par une animation erratique et un rendu visuel morne. L'âme du Mega Man a déserté les lieux, pire encore, le titre ne dispose même pas d'une personnalité qui lui est propre. Par conséquent, Mighty No. 9 se pose en imposteur de seconde zone plutôt qu'en digne successeur spirituel de la célèbre licence.

Despite its pedigree, Mighty No. 9 doesn’t seem to have a good sense of what was fun about Mega Man, or 2D action-platformers in general. There are brief moments where its pieces come together, but even then it’s hamstrung by its visually joyless art and animation. The soul of the Blue Bomber just isn’t here, and worse yet there’s no endearing personality of its own, and as a result, Mighty No. 9 feels much more like a second-rate imposter than a spiritual successor.

Tras tanto tiempo esperándolo, no podemos sino sentirnos decepcionados por Mighty No. 9. Keiji Inafune no ha sido capaz de representar con maestría los elementos que hicieron grande a la franquicia Mega Man con el paso de las entregas. Los fans de Mega Man se sentirán decepcionados con esta secuela espiritual. Aquellos que no conozcan la obra original, se sentirán confundidos, con un título que no aporta nada nuevo al género y se siente demasiado genérico y en rara ocasión divertido. Un intento de resurrección de todo un clásico tirado a la basura y casi 4 millones de dólares de financiación desperdiciados.

Whilst it makes some attempt to shine on its own merits, I can't help but feel it's this retro love that holds it back. Frustrating, uneven and painfully restricted; something made all the more apparent by its current-gen status.

En bref, Mighty No.9 est un jeu d’action plutôt réussi du point de vue du gameplay. Alors oui, l’esprit Mega Man y est : ça ressemble à du Mega Man, ça sent comme Mega Man, mais le résultat est loin d’être convaincant dans son ensemble. Le système d’assimilation des ennemis, le dash et les mouvements du héros sont plaisants à manipuler. Les modes de jeu proposés et la musique sont aussi appréciables, mais tout le reste est bien en-deçà. Les niveaux sont plutôt sympathiques mais ne sont pas transcendants. Graphiquement, on est loin de s’imaginer que le projet a été financé à près de quatre millions de dollars. Oui, nous évoquons fortement cet aspect financier, mais nous estimons que lorsqu’on obtient autant d’argent et que l’on se retrouve finalement en face d’un projet bancal, il est difficile de passer outre toutes les erreurs constatées : d’abord le DLC payant, les problèmes de performances, le manque de travail dans l’animation et la mise en scène, le manque d’approfondissement de l’histoire, des personnages, mais aussi les doublages français peu convaincants… tout cela contribue à laisser un goût amer que parvient à peine à compenser les points positifs. La plus grande interrogation qui subsiste est la suivante : Mais dans quoi est parti l’argent des contributeurs du projet ? Malgré tout, assez étonnamment, les énormes problèmes mis de côté, l’expérience a tout de même été plutôt agréable. Alors si vous savez parfaitement à quoi vous attendre et si Mega Man vous manque, vous pouvez toujours attendre une baisse de prix et tenter cette expérience de substitution un peu plus tard… en soldes.

Mighty No. 9 was designed to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man. If any of that spirit was ever here, it's long since decayed. The game is incredibly frustrating, suffers from bad design choices throughout and offers only middling enjoyment .

Mighty No. 9 is not a good video game. It’s is loaded down with lots of cool ideas that it never fully explores, and frankly it feels unfinished, unpolished, and unplaytested. It has potential, but right now this game serves as a warning about the dangers of stretch goals and crowdfunding, and only the most die-hard Mega Man fans will find something worthwhile here. Everyone else is better off sticking with the Blue Bomber.

The creation of the game was based on the online crowdfunding website Kickstarter[2] and incorporated heavy input from the public. Mighty No. 9 closely resembles the early Mega Man series in both gameplay and character design, which project lead Keiji Inafune worked on, and is considered its spiritual successor.

Aïe. Trois ans de développement et plus de 4 millions de dollars de financement participatif n'auront pas suffi à sauver le projet de Keiji Inafune. Accumulant d'incompréhensibles erreurs de design, de gameplay ou de rythme, Mighty No. 9 n'arrive non seulement pas à la cheville de la saga dont il espère incarner la spirituelle suite, mais il ne parvient même pas à être un bon jeu d'action 2D. Proposant pourtant un intéressant principe de combos par assimilations, le soft se noie dans son propre verre d'eau. Si l'atmosphère et le doublage original peuvent donner par moments le sentiment de vivre une aventure sympathique, difficile de conseiller Mighty No. 9 à ceux qui chercheraient un peu de fun à l'ancienne. À la fois très court mais généreux en contenu, il faudra faire preuve de courage pour poursuivre l'aventure au-delà du premier run... Et même s'il ne faut pas lui jeter la pierre, l'essai d'Inafune s'inscrit dans une liste déjà fournie de projets Kickstarter au résultat mitigé, sonnant comme une alerte pour les futurs Bloodstained et autres Yooka-Laylee. A bon entendeur...
