Dead Island 2 es, ante todo, un juego muy divertido en el que sigue siendo un placer despachar a los zombis de mil y una maneras distintas con armas cuerpo a cuerpo y de fuego modificadas. Pero además, es un juego más inteligente de lo que parece, que sabe narrar con su entorno y utilizarlo para acabar con los zombis de maneras creativas mientras construye un diseño de niveles sólido. No todo es perfecto, porque la historia es algo abrupta, hay un equilibrio tan fijo en la subida de nivel que se echa de menos la sensación de progresión y también se acusa cierta repetición de estructura en el segundo tramo de la obra. Pero, con todo, Dead Island 2 me ha hecho volver a disfrutar de la simple belleza de machacar muertos vivientes.

Dead Island 2 ne révolutionne ni la saga, ni le jeu de survie, mais assure l’essentiel. Dambuster Studios offre aux fans de survivalisme en milieu zombies un périple sanglant et ensoleillé au cœur d’une Cité des Anges repeinte en rouge. Mutiler du décharnés n’a jamais été aussi brutal et le plaisir ressenti aussi viscéral. Ce FPS n’est pas parfait, loin s’en faut, et souffre d’une certaine répétitivité qu’il tente de gommer avec une générosité indéniable. La franchise Dead Island est bel et bien de retour, un retour fracassant par la grande porte !

Dead Island 2 ne fait jamais l’erreur de se prendre au sérieux. Son scénario vole au raz des pâquerettes, mais de façon maîtrisée, et son gameplay livre exactement les outils dont on a besoin pour passer un bon moment, ni plus, ni moins. Tout le monde sait pourquoi on est là, aucune hypocrisie. On défonce du zombie à tout va, on se noie dans le gore et les entrailles, et on passe un excellent moment en prime. Le résultat est jubilatoire, étonnamment complet, et malgré des limitations évidentes, le jeu parvient même à surprendre en dispensant des nouveautés au compte goutte tout au long de l’aventure. Est-ce que c’est le meilleur jeu de zombies disponible ? Mauvaise question. Est-ce que c’est le plus fun ? C’est tout à fait possible.

Si vous voulez un véritable défouloir vidéoludique, Dead Island 2 est le parfait candidat. Ode à la violence pure et aux mares de sang, le jeu tant attendu ne fait pas de déçu en ce qui concerne le fun à l'état brut. En plus de son gameplay ultra dynamique, Dead Island 2 nous est livré dans un écrin d'une beauté appréciable bien que sanguinaire. On ne retiendra pas son histoire qui n'est accessoire, même si son humour nous séduit tout autant que ses décors ravagés.

Inutile girarci intorno: tutti abbiamo temuto che Dead Island 2 fosse dapprima vaporware, e poi che arrivasse sugli scaffali non proprio in forma, dopo uno sviluppo lungo, complicato e che non lasciava presagire nulla di buono. E invece, per una volta, siamo qui a raccontarvi di un happy ending: pur senza riscrivere nuove pagine della storia degli action rpg in prima persona, lo zombie game di Dambuster Studios si rivela spassoso, longevo, con solo una manciata di meccaniche da interiorizzare e tanto divertimento per quanti lo faranno. I punti di forza sono rappresentati dall'accuratezza del FLESH system, che cambia l'approccio a certi scontri, dall'iconicità di moltissime delle location visitate, dal buon livello di sfida e finanche da una cooperativa che si è dimostrata solida durante i nostri test. D'altro canto, non ci hanno convinto a pieno nè il feeling delle armi da fuoco nè il comparto tecnico limitato dallo sviluppo cross-gen, ma il bilancio finale rimane ampiamente positivo.

L’arrivo di Dead Island 2 dopo tanti anni trascorsi in un limbo sospeso è di per sé una mezza vittoria per Dambuster Studios e Deep Silver, eppure per un gioco così atteso che ha saltato di netto una generazione per contrattempi vari mi sarei aspettato qualcosa in più di un classico gioco d'azione totalmente incentrato sullo splatter. Affrontare a viso aperto zombi e relative mutazioni mi ha garantito un sollazzo comunque sufficiente grazie a un sistema di combattimento a tratti impeccabile, per quanto poco valorizzato da quest principali e missioni secondarie che non riescono a garantire la stessa varietà che emerge durante gli scontri con l’armata delle tenebre. Ed è un peccato, perché la Los Angeles in salsa post-apocalittica immaginata dagli sviluppatori ha il suo fascino decadente, sebbene a livello tecnico persistano alcune imperfezioni non limate a dovere. Si può quindi dire che lo scopo prefissato di Dead Island 2 di intrattenere con un gameplay dallo spiccato senso pratico sia stato raggiunto con discreto successo, nonostante il travagliato sviluppo abbia destabilizzato le potenzialità di un progetto che avrebbe potuto realmente imporsi come una delle migliori esperienze a tema zombi degli ultimi anni.

Dead Island 2 è una ripartenza: dopo gli anni di stop e i mille rinvii, ora il gioco è pronto, ma non riesce dove poteva innovare, non trova spazio per potersi ridefinire. Al contrario, punta tutto su ambientazione e cooperativo, sfruttando un gameplay già masticato che però mostra poco i segni del tempo. Il risultato è una stella capace di catturare l’attenzione, ma con del potenziale inespresso che speriamo di poter scoprire in un futuro nuovo capitolo. Per il resto, uccidere zombie è divertente.

A quasi un decennio dall'annuncio ufficiale del gioco, Dead Island 2 riemerge dal limbo con una proposta che recupera ed evolve l'assetto ludico del capitolo d'esordio, con l'obiettivo di offrire al pubblico un'esperienza carica di sanguinario appagamento. Questo col contributo di un sistema di smembramento procedurale che segna nuovi standard sul versante della brutalità poligonale, alimentando il senso di appagamento trasmesso dal combat system. Pur manifestando qualche oscillazione qualitativa più o meno significativa, le colonne portanti del gameplay (combattimento, progressione e gestione dell'equipaggiamento) si dimostrano tutto sommato solide, ma purtroppo questa saldezza finisce per scricchiolare sotto il peso di una ripetitività fin troppo marcata. La stragrande maggioranza delle attività ricalca il medesimo modello, con giusto una manciata di variazioni che, nel quadro generale, non smuovono più di tanto il bilancio di un'esperienza sì piacevole, ma fin troppo piatta. Un discorso che coinvolge anche il percorso principale di una campagna che nella seconda parte perde mordente, e si chiude con un cliffhanger piuttosto sfacciato, che in tutta onestà lascia un po' interdetti. Malgrado le qualità dei suoi migliori ingredienti, compreso un comparto tecnico pregevole, Dead Island 2 si presenta all'appuntamento col lancio con qualche cedimento di troppo, sebbene l'esperienza sia comunque in grado di offrire ai giocatori una ventina d'ore di brutale diletto, specialmente in co-op.

In the end, though, Dead Island 2 is a refreshing surprise amid the 2023 release roster. It's a fun and simple zombie-slasher experience that may be let down by its uninspiring RPG elements and boring loot-cycle, but more than makes up for it with its killer setting, brutal melee combat, and stunning graphics. While we suspect some will be disappointed by the game's size after all these years, we found it utterly revitalising to find a AAA experience that respects your time, and more importantly doesn't overstay its welcome. In the day and age of 300-hour RPGs, it's nice to know that some games are here for a fun time, not a long time.

Dead Island 2 is a hysterical Los Angeles-infused satire that does most things well enough, but feels like a stroll down the Walk of Fame of celebrated zombie games I’ve already played without adding many new ideas of its own. In fact, aside from the stellar comedy bits, I can think of very few things that Dead Island 2 does better than last year’s Dying Light 2. Still, if you’ve ever wanted to put your Wolverine claws straight through a zombie’s face or knock someone’s head off with a golf club, Dead Island 2’s got you. Its bloodsoaked melee combat and memorable characters are a lot of fun, especially when accompanied by friends in co-op multiplayer. The somewhat generic crafting weapons and upgrading your skills as you lay waste to armies of spray-tanned undead is entertaining enough on its own, but the strong writing and completely irreverent tone are the true stars of the show.

Dead Island 2 è un'avventura che fila via liscia senza lasciare traccia. Se vi siete divertiti col primo, probabilmente vi divertirete anche con questo seguito; se però cercate qualcosa di più emozionante e incisivo dovrete necessariamente guardare altrove. L'esperienza dura circa una ventina di ore e alla fine del viaggio non aspettativi chissà quanti incentivi per ricominciarlo daccapo. Ma è bello da vedere, in un certo senso rilassante in compagnia e, nonostante i difetti, potrebbe essere proprio il gioco che stavate cercando.

Dead Island 2 is a gory adventure that offers up plenty of mindless mayhem for zombie slayers. The remnants of California make for a great playground to dismember and destroy the walking dead in every conceivable way the game presents. The beautiful, sunny environments provide a stark contrast to the reanimated rotting carcasses. But as fun as the combat can be towards the end of the story, the missions began to feel as fresh as the enemies’ flesh as the repetitive nature of the quests turn them into chores in the final hours. Unremarkable story and repetitive gameplay aside, what Dead Island 2 does well it does very well, and despite these shortcomings, killing thousands of zombies with everything the game puts at the player’s disposal can still be a great time.

Dead Island 2 nous fait vivre une aventure à deux vitesses. La première moitié du jeu ne brille pas vraiment. Elle se révèle fastidieuse à cause de son rythme monotone, et de quêtes pas folichones dans des décors peu inspirés. Heureusement, on profite de plus en plus du jeu lorsque notre arsenal et nos aptitudes s'étoffent durant la seconde partie de l'aventure. Le jeu offre de très bons moments d'actions et plusieurs zones sont vraiment agréables à parcourir. Le scénario finit par dévoiler son potentiel, même s'il ne se donne pas les moyens d'atteindre des sommets à cause de son final expéditif. Au final, Dead Island 2 sait se montrer amusant, pas sur l'intégralité de l'épopée, mais par séquences plus ou moins denses. C'est déjà pas mal pour un titre dont on pensait, il y a encore quelque temps, qu'il ne verrait jamais le jour.
