The shift to the Frostbite Engine definitely lets Madden NFL 18 look fantastic, and Longshot makes great use of that to tell a short but powerful against-all-odds story. MUT Squads also opens up a new way to play with more than two players. But beyond that, the underwhelming feel of gameplay improvements and lack of much of anything new within Franchise, Madden NFL 18 sails wide-right in the final seconds. That said, being a much better-looking version of a solid football game with a great new story mode makes it at least a significant improvement, even if it’s more incremental than we’d hoped from a new game engine.

Quasiment parfait, c’est ce qui pourrait caractériser le feeling global en jouant à Madden NFL 18. Que vous soyez débutant ou acharné de la série, vous trouverez votre bonheur. Si le mode Longshot nous a paru un peu court, il propose un divertissement plutôt convenable, tout en restant une mise en bouche pour un des jeux de sport les plus complets aujourd’hui.

La franchise Madden est à l'image d'une équipe solide de NFL. Chaque année, elle enchaîne les passes et courses réussies pour progresser sur le terrain. Et plus qu'une simple progression, elle réussit chaque saison le touchdown. Madden NFL 18 ne déroge pas à la règle et consolide ses bases tout en apportant des nouveautés à son roster. L'immersion se voit alors favorisée par le nouveau moteur Frosbite, avec des visages bien plus convaicants qu'à l'accoutumée. Du pain béni pour le mode Aventure Longshot, qui s'avère être une réussite narrative, mais surtout pour le contenu gargantuesque de cette nouvelle itération. Ajoutez à celà une technique impeccable pour obtenir une simulation aussi grandiose que le show de la mi-temps du Super Bowl.

Madden 18 es lo que EA promete. El mejor Madden hecho hasta la fecha. La inclusión del motor Frostbite es todo un acierto, y en cuanto mejoren esas caídas de frames ya tienen la base de lo que este juego va a ser en el futuro. El añadido de Longshot le provee además de un modo de juego que se estaba pidiendo a gritos, y resulta en una amalgama que convierte al conjunto en uno de los mejores juegos de deporte que se pueden encontrar en las tiendas. Un juego espectacular en su aspecto visual y sonoro y que se convierte en obligatorio si además somos fanáticos del otro fútbol once contra once.

It’s nice to see Madden NFL 18 taking risks and experimenting, with good results like the Longshot mode. Hopefully the franchise will continue to refine what works, and iron out some of the technical imperfections and lackluster game modes.

Madden NFL 18 marks a second consecutive year of Madden football in a holding pattern. Features and additions to this year’s game either just don’t feel noteworthy, or miss the mark entirely. However, with no where else to turn, virtual gridiron fans will certainly get enjoyment out of Madden 18. As consoles are hitting maturation, hopefully Madden hasn’t peaked and continued use of the Frostbite engine will bring more noticeable improvements to the visuals of the game in the coming years. As far as features go, continuing to build out CFM and offering more options for players who just want to play online without the MUT overhead would be welcome

If you fall into the category of gamers that think EA simply puts out the same games every year, Madden NFL 18 isn’t drastically different enough to warrant buying at $60. It’s in-game and online struggles will frustrate, especially having to deal with EA’s Origin system. Additions like Longshot and the three new plays styles should at least warrant renting Madden NFL 18 or buying it at a cheaper price. In any case, it’s still Madden, so you’ll still have fun, until you get picked for the 10th time in the quater.

Although the new Longshot mode shines, Madden misses the mark with a few of its gameplay additions this year—so if you don’t immediately take a liking to them and choose to ignore them, the experience will feel a lot like last year’s. Meanwhile, the additions to MUT feel unnecessary, and like a desperate attempt to get more people playing—and potentially investing in microtransactions.
