Wreckreation captures flashes of Burnout’s celebrated, high-speed chaos, but too often crumbles under the weight of its own ambition. Its playground of racing and destruction can be stimulating in short bursts. But underneath the hood, technical hiccups, uneven design, and the lack of crash junctions restrain any high-octane potential.

Hands down, 1st Chapter is the Japanese RPG that I will recommend to anyone this year. It has all the anime eccentricities of the genre that would make you embarrassed to play it in front of your mum, but I’d still recommend it to mine. Come to this Trails in the Sky remake with an open mind, and it will respect your time. Any nerves you might have regarding its dense turn-based systems are remedied by letting you literally hack and slash through much of it. Falcom have brought their learnings from the years of Ys and Trails, and condensed the strengths of both RPG series into a revitalised entry point into its grand tech-fantasy saga.

After jumping back into the Plants vs. Zombies world, I can safely say this is my favorite way to play the franchise, classic tower-defense style gameplay loop. Not third person shooting or open worlds, just six lanes, some plants and some zombies. An argue can be had to whether we needed this as there are older GOTY editions, but I can’t lie and say I wasn’t excited to earn new achievements for it again. There is a little bit of new content but all in all this is just another repackaging of PvZ which if you’ve never played before … I definitely recommend it.

Wreckreation intenta recuperar el espíritu de Burnout apostando por una fórmula diferente: un sandbox de conducción donde puedes modificar el mundo a tu antojo. La idea es buena y tiene potencial, pero la ejecución no acompaña. La conducción es floja, el modo creador es tosco y el mundo abierto está vacío. Es divertido un rato si lo juegas con amigos y desbloqueas todo para hacer el loco, pero se agota rápido. Un experimento curioso, aunque lejos del legado de los juegos que intenta evocar.

Obsidian vuelve a sus raíces más roleras y, tras un Avowed centrado en las mecánicas de combate y un genial Grounded 2 en la supervivencia y la exploración, recupera ese algo especial que nos hizo enamorarnos de New Vegas. Un RPG en mayúsculas que ofrece multitud de opciones a la hora de crear a nuestro personaje, seguir nuestro camino y alcanzar el mejor final en base a nuestros gustos y decisiones. Su combate mejorado, un rendimiento más que estable y un diseño de personajes y niveles a la altura de sus múltiples historias terminan por poner el broche de oro a una secuela que mejora en todo a su primera parte.

I really wanted to love Castle of Heart Retold. I’m a sucker for these kinds of classic adventures, and its straightforward premise initially felt like a refreshing return to basics. But the game never builds on that foundation. It confuses being repetitive with having a rhythm, and mistakes being shallow for being simple. My goodwill was worn down by a thousand tiny cuts of monotony. It’s a game that shows its entire hand in the first thirty minutes and then asks you to sit at the table for another four hours, watching it play the same cards over and over again. It’s not a broken game, but it is an empty one. It’s a knight’s shining armor with nothing inside, a journey that starts with a heroic roar but ends with me just wanting to take a nap.

Wreckreation è un più che discreto gioco di corse arcade open-world. Il sistema di guida è soddisfacente quanto basta, nonostante qualche piccola svista. La mappa, dalle dimensioni davvero ampie, è zeppa di luoghi d'interesse e collezionabili. L'editor, con cui creare nuovi eventi e piste sospese nel vuoto, è sufficientemente malleabile da permettere a tantissimi di dare libero sfogo alla propria fantasia senza troppe difficoltà. A guardare il bicchiere mezzo vuoto, la produzione THQ Nordic è un po' anonima. La mancanza di auto su licenza, l'aspetto estetico generale dell'isola, un comparto grafico per nulla notevole, sono tutte caratteristiche che rischiano di far scivolare la produzione nell'anonimato piuttosto in fretta. Solo costanti aggiornamenti e l'entusiasmo della community potranno far vivere a lungo questo interessante progetto. Va da sé che chi ne ha avuto già abbastanza con i vari Forza Horizon e The Crew, non troverà particolari stimoli per dare una chance a Wreckreation. Al contrario, se non vedevate l'ora di mettere le mani su un gioco di corse immediato e con pochi fronzoli, fareste bene a dargli un'occasione.

We feel as though we've only scratched the surface of what Wreckreation has to offer, with its online play clearly a big part of the overall experience. We're going to hold off on a score for now, then — but from what we have sampled, this Burnout-inspired racer doesn't quite hit the mark, with some inconsistencies present as you careen around its flavourless open world. Again, multiplayer may well be the key to bringing everything together, and we sincerely hope that's the case.

Plants VS Zombies: Replanted est une nouvelle version convaincante d’un titre qui aura marqué l’histoire du jeu vidéo sur mobiles. Le lifting graphique est réussi, le gameplay efficace et le contenu (avec tous les ajouts proposés) occupera les joueurs pendant des longues heures de jeu. Reste à voir si vous apprécierez cet univers et ce gameplay relativement attentiste qui fait partie de l’essence même du jeu. De notre côté, on retourne dans notre jardin, histoire de calmer les ardeurs des zombies affamés…

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake è un’operazione sincera e piena di rispetto. Non è un remake che punta a stupire, ma a tramandare: chi cerca la modernità troverà un’esperienza anacronistica; chi invece cerca autenticità, troverà due classici immortali, restaurati con cura e con un gusto estetico inconfondibile. È un tributo a un’epoca in cui il videogioco era scoperta, pazienza e immaginazione, e un modo per ricordare quanto ancora oggi quella formula possa emozionare.

Con Ball x Pit podíamos tener la sospecha de que las demos nos habían mostrado un diseño divertido, pero sin demasiada profundidad en el juego final. Nada más lejos de la realidad. El nuevo título de Devolver es una clase maestra a la hora de sorprender con todo tipo de ideas para expandir una base simple, pero adictiva.

A lot of folks will try to tell you that the appeal of 2004’s Katamari Damacy was its stark originality, and that continuing to iterate on the same formula dilutes that creative juice more every time. And they’re probably right. But like Sisyphus pushing the proverbial sticky ball up the mountain, it’s about the joy in the process. That joy is still in abundance for players, and if the delightful absurdity that permeates every corner of this game is any indication I’d say it’s there for the creators as well.

Pour conclure, The Outer Worlds 2 ne réinvente pas sa formule, il l’améliore avec confiance. La satire fonctionne toujours aussi bien, les personnages marquent l’imaginaire et chaque planète explore une nouvelle facette de cet univers sci-fi délicieusement corrompu. Quelques irritants liés à la progression viennent freiner l’élan, mais jamais au point de gâcher l’expérience. Avec son ambiance unique, son écriture mordante et sa jouabilité peaufinée, cette suite confirme qu’Obsidian maîtrise son art. Une aventure spatiale à vivre sans hésiter.
