If a good remake is defined by its loyalty to the original, then Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are very good remakes indeed. They are Diamond and Pearl down to nearly every detail, looking nicer than ever before with a few small tweaks, most of which are pretty good ones. It leaves in some of the original’s roster flaws, but they’re largely forgivable if you’re like me and have some degree of nostalgia for a time when Pokémon’s scope was smaller. And yet, I can’t help but be disappointed that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl weren’t braver in how they improved upon the originals in the same way other Pokémon remakes were, bringing even some now-historic improvements back to correct history’s mistakes. Of course, I still had a perfectly pleasant time revisiting both Sinnoh and the simultaneously simpler yet more challenging era of Pokémon that took place within it reminded me of a time when this series asked a bit more of us.

The original DS Diamond and Pearl were great back in the day, and 15 years later this new coat of paint makes them just as entertaining. The improvements may not be as drastic as some may have hoped, but what's here is a solid Pokémon adventure regardless.

Le ottime novità introdotte da ILCA, come i Grandi Sotterranei e una maggiore efficacia dei capipalestra, cozzano con elementi che evidenziano i tanti anni passati e una coerenza strutturale e grafica non sempre impeccabile. Il risultato è comunque gradevole e ci ha intrattenuto quanto gli orginali (e forse anche un po' di più). PRO Grandi Sotterranei, sfide coi “boss" CONTRO “Testoni” dei personaggi, qualche bug “old-gen”

Pokémon Diamante Lucente e Perla Splendente non sono altro che remake incredibilmente fedeli agli originali giochi usciti 15 anni fa su Nintendo DS. Ma è proprio la volontà di non fare forzature o rivoluzioni il loro più grande successo: con pochi efficaci cambiamenti per adattarli agli standard moderni, ILCA è riuscita a confezionare prodotti che, pur non essendo perfetti, riportano i giocatori indietro nel tempo per riscoprire una delle generazioni di Pokémon più amate di sempre. Non sono coraggiosi né i migliori giochi della serie, ma hanno un forte rispetto dei titoli originali e di chi li ha giocati, e fanno di tutto per dimostrarlo. Per un franchise con milioni di fan, questo non è poco.

Pokémon Diamante Lucente e Perla Splendente sono remake unici nel loro genere, che nel morboso attaccamento al passato trovano tutti i loro pregi e difetti. Alcuni elementi intatti indicano una strada maestra in parte smarrita dalla serie, e ricordano al giocatore veterano cosa Game Freak potrebbe tornare a fare grazie all'amore restaurativo di ILCA. Per l'Allenatore novizio, queste scelte rappresentano quasi una promessa da rispettare per i capitoli successivi. Uno stile artistico però non sempre lucido, un difficile matrimonio tra meccaniche vecchie e nuove, e una difficoltà altalenante confezionano un prodotto decisamente disomogeneo, che troppo spesso sembra intenzionato a fare qualcosa di impossibile: accontentare chiunque. Pokémon Diamante Lucente e Perla Splendente, a differenza di tutti gli altri remake della serie, non rappresentano né il passato né il presente dei mostriciattoli tascabili, ma un lavoro a cavallo fra i due estremi. Sono giochi che viaggiano continuamente fra lo spazio e il tempo, insomma. Come i leggendari che colorano le loro storie.

Trop timide et facile pour les uns, belle opportunité pour redécouvrir la formule classique Pokémon pour les autres, Pokémon Diamant Étincelant / Perle Scintillante va sans doute diviser les fans. De notre côté, le charme était bel et bien au rendez-vous. Après 15 ans, la quatrième génération propose toujours des mécaniques bien huilées, un fil conducteur agréable à suivre et une aventure variée, en tout cas suffisamment pour toujours nous pousser à continuer. Oui, notre progression s’est révélée, à quelques exceptions près, assez simple, et il y a pas mal de phases et d’arènes dont le level design a très mal vieilli. Sans parler du manque d’ambition global pour les visuels. Malgré tout, impossible de bouder son plaisir au moment de battre la Ligue (pas si facile que cela d’ailleurs) et de voir évoluer ses Pokémon. Un retour à Sinnoh perfectible, mais très agréable.

Pokémon Diamante Lucente e Pokémon Perla Splendente è un remake ben realizzato, ma che è un po' troppo rispettoso dei giochi originali, riproposti in maniera quasi pedissequa. In questo modo le novità introdotte sembrano quasi un corpo estraneo e ci si chiede, dunque, perché non sia stato preso in considerazione Platino, la versione arricchita e perfezionata di questi due classici per Nintendo DS. I nuovi giocatori, al netto di alcune funzionalità che non troveranno e altre che semplificano la storia principale, si godranno questo viaggio a Sinnoh, mentre i veterani concentreranno sui Grandi Sotterranei rimpiangendo l'occasione un po' sprecata di ridare lustro a una delle regioni più interessanti della serie, anche in vista di Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have their flaws and are not particularly ambitious remakes, but they're somehow still fun. I don't regret the 25 hours I spent with the main story, and there is enough post-game content to keep me interested for a while longer. I just can't help but wish that these gems shined a little bit more brilliantly.

Da una coppia di giochi controversa sono in arrivo remake altrettanto controversi: Diamante Lucente è un gioco che adotta una precisa direzione artistica, a tratti un po' fuori luogo ma nondimeno gradevole a vedersi, sebbene meno curata di quanto avrebbe potuto essere soprattutto nelle fasi di esplorazione (basti pensare a Link's Awakening). In termini di gameplay, le innegabili migliori alla QoL aiutano il gioco a uscire dall'eccessiva farraginosità originale ma non riescono a eliminare del tutto la sensazione di andare sempre a rilento, con una netta disparità tra i Pokémon in squadra e gli avversari lungo il percorso. Il tutto si risolve in combattimenti privi di una vera strategia. Le aggiunte inedite vere e proprie, Hideout e decorazione delle Poké Ball, in particolare quest'ultima sono piuttosto fini a loro stesse; al contrario, la parte legata ai Leggendari è molto interessante. Diamante Lucente vive di alti e bassi, senza riuscire a emergere in modo davvero significativo.

Pokémon Diamant Étincelant et Pokémon Perle Scintillante semble un peu trop conçu dans le seul but de nous faire patienter jusqu'à Légendes Pokémon : Arceus. Ce dernier s'annonce comme une réelle évolution pour une franchise qui se repose un peu sur ses acquis -- ce que soulignent ces deux remakes. L'approche du studio ILCA est un peu trop scolaire. Résultat, Pokémon Diamant Étincelant et Pokémon Perle Scintillante laissent un goût de déjà-vu et de déjà-joué. L'agrément de la nostalgie ne peut pas toujours fonctionner et justifier l'existence de ces remakes très paresseux.

Overall, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are perfectly decent Pokémon games, but feel like a significant step back when compared to newer titles and the quality of previous Pokémon remakes. It relies too heavily on the Pokémon formula always providing a decent game, but doesn’t bring much else to the table. The features removed from the originals, as well as ILCA completely ignoring the revisions that Pokémon Platinum already made thirteen years ago heavily impacted the overall enjoyment of the games. With more time in the oven, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl could’ve been exceptional titles, but the end product felt undercooked and games that will be inevitably pushed to the side when the next game releases.

While some of the slower elements of the original games have been fixed, and The Grand Underground makes up for the comparatively weak Pokédex, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s new art style and a few other stumbles make this pair of games a somewhat disappointing retread of Generation 4. They’re also very clearly in the shadow of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the upcoming open-world-like Pokemon game that has fans hoping it can take the series in exciting new directions beyond 20-year-old mechanics. If the remit of these remakes was to remain faithful to the original Gen 4 pair, we wish they’d also stuck to the pixel-art aesthetic. Aside from The Grand Underground – and the connectivity with the current games in the series – there’s very little reason to play Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl over your original DS copies.
