If you go into Code Vein thinking that you’re going to get something on the level of any of the Souls games (or Bloodborne) you’re going to be a little bit disappointed. The lackluster combat is at odds with an interesting premise, great presentation, and deep character customization. It’s hard to pass up on it as a God Eater fan, but you’ll have to wade through a ton of mediocre combat to get to the good stuff here.

While Code Vein has a lovely art style, the story is the boring kind of bonkers. The combat is fun and the exploration satisfying, but the locations feel repetitive, the sidekicks annoying and in the end, it feels like Dragons Dogma's edgier cousin.

Code Vein is an anime Souls-lite. It doesn’t have the same mystery or quiet contemplation found in the Souls series, but that also means it offers something different. The world is interesting, the story kept my attention, and the combat is smooth. If you have an itch for a new Soul-like, Code Vein is perfect for you.

Code Vein tiene un buen planteamiento jugable, aderezando los niveles con un nuevo sistema que permite múltiples configuraciones. Sin embargo, el desafío es demasiado fácil y termina por no aprovechar bien este sistema. Esto, unido a una historia muy floja que interrumpe constantemente la acción y un diseño de escenarios simples para un juego de estas características, resta mucho interés a la obra.

Despite building itself on well-tread ground, Code Vein definitely moves to the beat of its own drummer, but that beat can lose its rhythm when you need it to be steady. Some changes like being able to easily switch around and experiment with classes on the fly are great, while others like its inconsistent AI partner could be more trouble than they were worth at times. But in both the good and the bad, I appreciated its enthusiasm for mixing things up and getting a little weird. If you’re looking for a unique take on a familiar type of challenge, and are open to loving and hating a game for its many mechanical quirks in the same breath, Code Vein is worth sinking your teeth into.

At the end of the day, Code Vein does exactly what it set out to do. It provides players with a more casual Souls-like experience that will help to bridge the gap for any who found the aforementioned series too difficult to get into. While it lacks complexity in its leveling up system, the amount of flexibility with character builds makes the game a breeze to play. Unlike many other games in the Souls-like genre, Code Vein adhears so closely to the original Dark Souls forumla that it can be hard to differentiate them at first glance. It is difficult to talk about Code Vein without mentioning the Souls games, and that is not a comparison that many games can win. Even with a decent amount of effort put into the combat, Code Vein just cannot match up to the level of detail which goes into From Software's work. If you’re really into the theme’s or just want an easier Souls-like then you’ve probably got a perfect match here. For anyone looking for more Dark Souls to play, you’ll probably end up pretty disappointed in the challenge on offer here.

Code Vein es una buena idea mal ejecutada. Un intento de Dark Souls que se queda a medio camino y que no sabe aprovechar el mundo y la mitología que se ha creado para él. Su historia va perdiendo fuerza según avanza, aunque puede llegar a gustar a los amantes de los vampiros. Poder cambiar el código de sangre en cualquier momento para hacer lo propio con las habilidades del protagonista mola mucho, pero los enemigos no suponen un problema real en cuanto se dominan las mecánicas y subir de nivel cuesta demasiado poco. Además, el juego ha llegado al mercado con bastantes problemas técnicos como clipping o caídas de frames y su multijugador cooperativo no aporta demasiado.

Code Vein is an okay, albeit easy soulslike game. If you’re more of an anime fan, the in-depth character customisation and flashy combat will get you hooked. And tolerate the rather predictable story. If you’re a soulslike fan, the game’s simple map design and relatively easier gameplay can be a turn-off. Code Vein is more for anime fans that want to dabble with soulslike, rather than anime Dark Souls.

Quel dommage que ce Code Vein se casse les dents et n'offre pas une proposition finale à la hauteur des possibilités de son ingénieux système de classes à la carte. Trop étriqué dans ses environnements et techniquement daté, le titre propose un gameplay certes correct mais sans éclat, plombé par un cruel manque de punch dans ses animations. La mine triste, il enchaîne les niveaux couloirs sans grande prise de risque offrant au joueur une aventure non sans un minimum de challenge, mais sans réel souffle épique non plus.
