While some of the big criticisms that people had with the original version of the game still stand, Deadlight: Director’s Cut still feels like a fresh take on the zombie genre 4 years later. The narrative is brief and there are the occasional control issues that still pop up, but those things don’t take away much from the intensity that it is able to hold steady throughout its handful of hours of gameplay. It probably isn’t worth a return trip if you’ve already played the original game, but if this is your first time checking out the Deadlight world then this version is definitely the one to get.

Deadlight Director's Cut combines classic puzzle platforming fun with an artistic direction and story that is able to create a bleak atmosphere. With so many zombie apocalypse games to choose from and many of them lackluster, finding one worth playing that is able to stand out from the crowd can be a daunting task but this title is an easy recommendation. Randall's story is easy to relate to being as he is just regular person trying to find his loved ones in a world gone to hell and the gameplay is just as easy to get sucked into.

Deadlight: Director's Cut es un título de excelente factura que, pese a sus errores, es capaz de entretener y enganchar debido a su concepto y a sus variantes mecánicas. Una propuesta cautivadora e interesante de principio a fin. Ideal para los que no lo disfrutaron en su momento, ya que esta reedición no posee demasiados alicientes para aquellos que lo completaron hace cuatro años.

L’eccellente zombie-game di Tequila Works è pronto a invadere l’ammiraglia Sony con una Director’s Cut in grado di perfezionare un gioco che già nel 2012 riuscì a conquistare l’utenza PC e Xbox, migliorandone la risoluzione e aggiungendo una serie di effetti grafici che si adattano ottimamente agli standard della corrente generazione di console. Le nuove fonti di luce, i particellari scintillanti, le animazioni eleganti e naturali, uniti ad avanzati filtri di post processing, creano quindi un mondo più “vivo” e opprimente, popolato da “ombre” silenti e sguscianti. Il gameplay e la storyline rimangono invece invariati, e sotto quest’aspetto Tequila Works avrebbe potuto arricchire l’offerta contenutistica con nuovi elementi (anche narrativi) per indurre i fan della prima ora all’acquisto dell’edizione rimasterizzata. L’aggiunta in esclusiva della sola, brutale Survival Mode, in cui resistere ad oltranza contro una masnada infernale di fameliche creature, non è infatti sufficiente per sopperire ad una longevità troppo limitata, soprattutto in rapporto al prezzo di vendita di 19,99 euro, sia in formato retail che digitale. Ciononostante, Deadlight si rivela tutt’oggi un’opera imperdibile per chiunque non l’abbia giocata a suo tempo: la versione Director’s Cut diviene così un’occasione perfetta per riportare alla “luce” un prodotto indie di assoluta qualità.

Come Director’s Cut non c’è molto di inedito o di assolutamente nuovo, ma è indubbio come tra i 1080p a 60 fps, la maggior cura nelle animazioni e un quadro grafico generalmente più solido e accattivante questo “nuovo” Deadlight sia sbarcato su PlayStation 4 con buoni risultati. Il gioco rimane comunque lo stesso identico di quattro anni fa con solo un leggerissimo miglioramento dei controlli, mentre la nuova modalità Sopravvivenza è un’oasi di trial and error e quindi a molti (me compreso) non dirà granché.

Deadlight: Director's Cut es un título interesante y divertido, que si no tuviste la oportunidad de jugar al título original hace cuatro años ahora es buen momento para hacerlo, ya que luce una resolución 1080p con un buen detalle. Pese a sus pequeños errores, los soliviante de una manera más que satisfactoria trayendo un gameplay en el que tendremos que tomar decisiones rápidas para sobrevivir ya sea ante las hordas de sombras como ante obstáculos mortales en las zonas de plataformas. Una reedición muy limpia, pero que no ofrece nada más nuevo más allá del modo supervivencia para aquel que no lo haya jugado en su momento, ofreciendo entre seis y ocho horas de juego sólo en el modo historia con un final de aventura muy a la altura.

If you missed out on Deadlight when it was originally released and are into action platformers, I do recommend checking it out. Just be prepared for the frustration to ramp up as the game goes on.

Alors, Deadlight : Director’s Cut vaut-il clairement le coup finalement ? Si vous possédez déjà l’orignal, passez votre chemin, mais pour les autres, attendez un peu. En effet, Deadlight : Director’s Cut possède les grosses qualités du jeu de base à savoir un gameplay plateformes et action qui en vaut la chandelle, des arrière-plans dynamiques assez somptueux et surtout une ambiance pesante et sombre pour notre plus grand bonheur. En revanche, le jeu paie sa durée de vie courte et sa progression en dent de scie en termes de défauts ni plus ni moins. En sus, le gros problème de ce Director’s Cut, mis à part l’ajout du mode survie qui vous permet de passer sur le soft encore une petite heure à la limite, c’est son gros manque de nouveautés par rapport à l’original, notamment sur l’aspect graphique, vraiment fainéant pour le coup. En somme, pour 19.99 €, les nouveaux joueurs de Deadlight devront peut-être attendre une baisse de prix significative pour se le procurer, tandis que les aficionados du titre de Tequila Works possédant l’orignal, peuvent passer leur chemin avec cette mise à jour ultra minime.

Deadlight: Director's Cut is just a port of Deadlight to the new consoles without much new added to it. Its the kind of thing that I'm not entirely sure why it needed to happen. If you've never played Deadlight before then you aren't missing much, and if you have then there's no reason to pick this up.

If you’re a die-hard fan of Deadlight, then you probably don’t even need to read a review to know whether or not to buy it, you’ll just do it anyway. For everyone else, this is an average game that has been surpassed in the years since it came out. There are far better 2D platformers available. You can give this one a miss.
