Attendevamo con un certo interesse il nuovo lavoro di Jake Kazdal, ex dipendente di Sega Japan e fondatore di Team 17-bit. Lo attendevamo perché il suo titolo di esordio Skulls of the Shogun era pieno di idee interessanti, e perché l'ambientazione da cartone animato anni '80 era irresistibile. Galak-Z The Dimensional però è andato oltre ogni possibile aspettativa. È un titolo a basso budget, con un game design eccezionale e tanta di quella qualità da far impallidire produzioni ben più blasonate. È un sentito omaggio ai robottoni giapponesi, a Gundam e Macross, a tutte quelle opere che hanno segnato moltissimi di noi. Ma è soprattutto un capolavoro di divertimento, uno sparatutto diverso da tutti gli altri che vanta un sistema di controllo ai limiti della perfezione. Insomma, è un piccolo immenso capolavoro. Però, fate attenzione. Galak-Z The Dimensional non è un titolo per tutti, perché è difficile, molto difficile, e per vedere i primi risultati dovrete impegnarvi a lungo. È un gioco che richiede costanza e dedizione: se non avete la pazienza di giocare con le sue regole, di stare ai suoi ritmi, di riprovare più volte, allora è meglio rivolgersi altrove. Il PSN è pieno di sparatutto altrettanto validi ma più accessibili. Se però amate la sfida, se vi piacciono gli sparatutto di un tempo, quelli tanto difficili che quando li finivi andavi in giro a scuola per vantartene con gli amici, allora sfoderate il vostro sorriso a la Haran Banjo, mettetevi al comando del Galak-Z e andate a salvare l'universo.

Galak-Z is the very definition of awesome. Playing it makes me feel like the badass intergalactic pilot I always dreamed of being as a kid, and I love it even more because it makes me work for that ecstasy. No battle is scripted, nothing is choreographed - my skills do all the talking. 17-Bit's physics-based space roguelike is a truly special experience on PS4, one that has the potential to become the flagship indie title on a platform bursting with incredible creations. It rewards patience, skill and creativity, and absolutely deserves your time regardless of your relationship with '80s anime or 2D shooters.

I'm sure more casual players will still be deterred from taking the plunge, but any fan of roguelikes need not look any longer for their next fix. Galak-Z has style, and it's got it in spades.

Galak-Z è un gioco complessivamente molto più che buono, una vera goduria per tutti gli amanti dello stile anime anni ‘80 alla ricerca di una sfida continua e consistente, con un gameplay solido e profondo. Sia ad ogni modo ben chiaro un dettaglio importantissimo: è impossibile dare “una botta e via” a questa piccola avventura spaziale in salsa shooter, e nell'approcciarsi all'ultima fatica di 17-Bit bisogna tassativamente mettere in preventivo una curva di apprendimento vertiginosa (che per alcuni potrebbe rappresentare un vero e proprio muro). Insomma, astenersi piloti iperspaziali della domenica o avventurieri provenienti da sistemi solari casual.

Though GALAK-Z’s roguelike elements are fairly basic and stripped down, they do succeed in adding extra layers of challenge and replayability to an excellent space shooter. Progressively mastering its wonderful controls and unlocking new upgrades had me totally hooked, and even though its idea of mission variety is something of an illusion, its smart, playful personality kept me too entertained to care.
