You know you’ve just played something special when you’re left with a bittersweet feeling while the credits roll. As I closed the book on Bayonetta Origins, I kept thinking about how it was an absolute joy through and through. From its impressive, fantastical story moments full of childlike charm to its clever platforming puzzles and satisfying battles, this is a superb action-adventure where every piece comes together to create a wondrous playable storybook. Its wild dual-character concept doesn’t really evolve much once you get the hang of it, and maybe its conclusion could have done more to leave a lasting impact. But it’s a journey I’ll cherish all the same, and one that’s been brought to life through a beautiful art style, stellar voice performances, and an outstanding soundtrack. Bayonetta Origins puts a neat little bow on an iconic franchise, and I’m glad we got to see that there was so much more to our beloved witch.

Bayonetta Origins se destapa como una metroidvania más que interesante que, sin reinventar la rueda del género, hace bien todo lo que pone sobre la mesa, con una factura técnica que, aunque no siempre da el do de pecho, a veces te hará dudar de si estás jugando en Switch. A poco que te guste este subgénero, lo vas a disfrutar de principio a fin.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon ci ha mostrato un nuovo modo di raccontare le vicende della strega più amata dei videogiochi, con meccaniche di gameplay coraggiose votate a soddisfare anche i giocatori più inesperti. La storia viene raccontata come fosse una piccola fiaba interattiva e lo stesso gameplay, con puzzle e combattimenti, si rivela convincente, pur essendo caratterizzato da una praticamente totale assenza di sfida dall'inizio alla fine. Considerando che Bayonetta è conosciuta per essere una saga impegnativa, si tratta di un aspetto che inevitabilmente potrebbe deludere i fan storici, ma se saranno disposti a rilassarsi e godersi un'avventura diversa dalle altre qui scopriranno una narrazione in grado di approfondire perfino la trama principale della trilogia – e un esperimento adorabilmente riuscito.

Già in fase di preview Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon mi aveva convinto e quelle sensazioni positive si sono ora confermate per l’intero gioco. Questo mix di enigmi, esplorazione e combattimenti immerso in un’atmosfera da favola dark sfrutta infatti bene l’elemento cooperativo, è piacevole dall’inizio alla fine (nonostante una partenza un po’ lenta), è graficamente ispirato e, nonostante qualche limite nei controlli e nella gestione della telecamera, è adatto a tutti, anche grazie alla possibilità di eliminare del tutto i danni subiti nei combattimenti. Certo, i debiti con Zelda e con tutto il filone degli action-puzzle “stilosi” non sono pochi, ma avercene di spin-off di questo livello.

Avec Bayonetta Origins, Platinum Games sort de sa zone de confort pour proposer une expérience plus posée, et c'est réussi. Grâce à sa sublime direction artistique colorée, la première aventure de Cereza s'inspire des livres de contes pour offrir un rendu visuel qui conserve son charme jusqu'au bout. Manette en main, le titre reprend des éléments de Bayonetta 3 en nous faisant contrôler deux personnages simultanément pour une approche aussi originale que déroutante au premier abord. Finalement, c'est surtout par sa progression bien rythmée que l'expérience captive le joueur, alternant combats et énigmes avec une grande fluidité, même si on a tendance à voir la structure se répéter en fin de jeu. Pour toutes ces raisons, Bayonetta Origins est une aventure aussi sympathique que charmante qui s'offre une place de choix parmi les exclusivités de la Nintendo Switch.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a delightfully stylish origin tale that sees young Bayo take her first steps on the road to becoming the badass Umbra witch we all know and love. This is a graphically stunning fairy tale with plenty in the way of atmosphere and charm. However, long-term Bayo fans beware, it's also a game that's aimed squarely at a young/casual audience, introducing plenty of fun puzzle and combat mechanics but never really evolving them to a point where they become in any way challenging. Repetition creeps in later in the game and, although it ends with some bombastic sequences and a few nice shoutouts to the main series, it feels like a little more challenge and experimentation in puzzles and combat could have made this one absolutely essential for all ages.
