Binary Domain è un bel mix di luci e ombre, ma in definitiva nonostante i suoi difetti è senza dubbio qualcosa in più di un semplice clone made in Japan di uno sparatutto in terza persona occidentale. Ambientazione, storia, design dei robot e scontri a fuoco sono i suoi punti di forza, con tanto poi di entusiasmanti boss fight. Purtroppo la vera peculiarità del titolo, ovvero la gestione "ruolistica" della squadra non è ben implementata e scalfisce solo le complesse dinamiche che si potrebbero instaurare in battaglia. Speriamo quindi in un possibile secondo capitolo per vedere realmente esplose tutte le potenzialità di un franchise molto interessante.

Per quanto Binary Domain non nasconda una serie abbastanza nutrita di difetti ci sentiamo di consegnarne senza remore l’acquisto a tutti gli appassionati degli shooter. La trama, ben articolata ed interessante, riesce a mantenere vivo l’interesse nonostante i cliché e la verve decisamente troppo superficiale di alcuni personaggi. Il gameplay, con i suoi alti e bassi, compiace mediamente l’utente, costringendolo sì a sopportare un’abbondante linearità e qualche sezione non proprio riuscitissima, ma ricompensandolo poi con Boss Fight d’antologia ed, in generale, con una progressione impreziosita dalle meccaniche di cooperazione e da una folta schiera d’avversari diversi. Non si può, in ultimo, dimenticare un multiplayer disastroso, che non fa certamente bene alla reputazione del titolo; esattamente quanto non gli giova una presentazione (parliamo di cover e menù iniziali) davvero povera rispetto a quel che si rivela poi essere un comparto tecnico di tutto rispetto. Peccato solo per l’esagerata altalenanza del doppiaggio. Grazie ad un bagaglio di esperienze vasto ma non vastissimo il team Yakuza si dimostra capace di spaziare anche in un ambito diverso dal solito, proponendo un titolo che sicuramente non rimarrà impresso a fuoco nella memoria dei giocatori, ma sarà in grado di togliere più di qualche soddisfazione.

Ironically, for a game about the eradication of androids posing as humans, Binary Domain is itself a form of replicant. It convincingly apes the mechanics and behaviours of the best shooters on the market, but its augmentations feel noticeably forced and artificial. Having said that, shearing through robots in a Neo Tokyo setting makes for a nice change of pace within a genre typically populated by alien antagonists and Eastern European enemies, and in all but name this is essentially the best Terminator game ever made. The voice command and trust systems are interesting experiments that yield slightly underdeveloped results, but ultimately Binary Domain doesn’t hang its hat on them – even without the gimmicks this is an enjoyable albeit derivative shooter that any self-respecting sci-fi fan should check out.

Binary Domain ne tient peut-être pas toutes ses promesses et ne brille pas par son originalité, mais il s'agit tout de même d'un bon jeu d'action qui fournira un belle dose d'adrénaline aux amateurs du genre. Préparez-vous à dessouder des armées de robots et à y prendre goût !

Schade, dass Dan seine Mitstreiter nicht taktisch delegieren kann. Schade, dass er tausende Patronen in einfältigen Metallgerippen versenken muss. Schade, dass er und seine Begleiter pubertäre Jugendsprache zitieren. Schade, dass sich das Beziehungsgeflecht auf ein oberflächliches Ja/Nein-Spiel beschränkt. Schade, dass Binary Domain alles sein will – aber nur die Hälfte sein kann. Vielleicht hätte es die gute Spracherkennung opfern sollen, um wichtige Aspekte zu stärken. Denn dort, wo es die Action eines Gears of War nachahmt, fehlt ihm die grafische Wucht der Moderne. Ihm fehlen taktische Feinheiten, die mehr verlangen als den Schuss aus der Deckung und gelegentliche Stellungswechsel. Und ihm fehlt die spannende Erzählweise abseits japanischer und westlicher Klischeekisten. Dabei ist es gerade die Verbindung von Ost und West, die es am stärksten macht. Denn wann immer es den Deckungskampf verlässt und ein Gefecht gegen gigantische oder blitzschnelle Roboter inszeniert, entsteht ein packender Showdown. Wann immer eine Verfolgungsjagd den monotonen Kugelhagel unterbricht, gewinnt die Action an Schwung. Und wenn die japanischen Autoren schließlich ihre Geschichte erzählen dürfen, wächst sie endlich über „Gears of Blade Runner“ hinaus. Binary Domain verbindet die japanische Qualität des Bosskampfes mit der westlichen Schule des modernen Shooters. Schade, dass die fernöstliche Spielekunst gerade deshalb verwässert wird.

Sega. L'équipe des Yakuza. Des Mercs plus clichés que nature et surentrainés, bien décidés à se frayer un chemin à travers un Tokyo en 2080. Et puis des robots. Beaucoup de robots. Tous les ingrédients étaient là pour faire un shooter explosif et viril. Mais au lieu de cela, comme le laissait sous-entendre son titre totalement aléatoire, Binary Domain n'est qu'un jeu généralement passable où l'on sent beaucoup d'envie mais qui frôle trop souvent le quiproquo industriel.
