Metro: Last Light is a masterful story, artfully told. It does suffer a bit in terms of replay value because of that, but Ranger Mode and taking a different approach to your play enhances the overall experience and ensures that you get your money’s worth. Even with the somewhat simple-minded AI, the combat offers some good moments. It isn’t the highlight though. Metro: Last Light is a novel that you play, and it’s a bleak and oppressive one at that. This is a mature story, expertly crafted with a fluid pace that sets you up and keeps you engaged. There are other titles with similar qualities, but Metro: Last Light is a unique game and one that should be experienced.

Metro: Last Light es la clase de juego que quería ser Metro 2033: una maravilla técnica, emocionante, explosivo, inmersivo y que funciona. Es increíble todo lo que han logrado los chicos de 4A Games con este título, ya que los FPS rara vez te meten tanto en la acción y en su universo, eso que precisamente la historia es uno de sus puntos flojos. Pero la jugabilidad está ahí para compensarlo, haciéndonos pasar mucha tensión y emoción desde el primer minuto de juego hasta el momento en el que terminan los créditos. Si os gustó Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light os encantará al solucionar los muchos problemas que tenía. Por otra parte, si os gustan los shooters en los que lo más importante no es disparar, sino involucrarte en el universo en el que se ambienta la aventura, hará que no soltéis el mando hasta terminarlo. Pero si buscáis otro FPS de matar sin nada de sentido, el Metro de Moscú no es para vosotros. Pero oye, para eso ya hay innumerables títulos, y uno que haga todo lo que hace Metro: Last Light tan bien es cada vez menos frecuente, lo que hace que sea todo un placer para nuestras consolas y PCs.

Per quanto si attesti qualche gradino sotto alla controparte PC, anche la versione console di Metro Last Light si difende benissimo, spiccando nel panorama shooter come uno dei titoli più interessanti dell’anno. Il team ha fatto un ottimo lavoro soprattutto nella caratterizzazione delle ambientazioni, di protagonisti e comprimari e nell’implementazione degli aspetti narrativi. Dove la produzione pecca per linearità si rifà insomma in coinvolgimento, lasciando in definitiva al videogiocatore una gran bella esperienza.

Les fans de Metro 2033 et des écrits de Dmitri Gloukhovski seront en terrain conquis. Metro Last Light est la digne suite de son prédécesseur. Les développeurs de 4A Games ont préféré miser sur les acquis de Metro 2033 et ne pas trop chambouler une formule qui a déjà fait ses preuves. Pour les petits nouveaux qui découvriraient la licence, sachez que seule prime l’ambiance et le scénario, sans doute au détriment de l’action pure. Mais si vous acceptez de vous laisser porter, alors vous ne serez pas déçu de votre visite du métro russe.

Fort de graphismes sympathiques, d'un scénario accrocheur et d'une immersion exceptionnelle, Metro : Last Light devrait sans peine séduire les fans du premier opus et de l'univers de Dmitri Gloukhovski. Il aurait toutefois été de bon ton d'améliorer l'IA et d'apporter quelques modifications à une jouabilité déjà critiquée il y a 3 ans. Reste que le mélange entre FPS grand spectacle et survival-horror fonctionne toujours et devrait réserver des moments agréables aux joueurs cherchant une expérience enivrante plutôt qu'un gameplay léché.

Metro: Last Light is a bold post-apocalyptic FPS adventure uniquely told from the Russian point of view. Last Light’s setting and presentation are its strong points, though the last third of its 10-hour campaign is weaker than everything that came before it. If you want a fun first-person shooter that doesn’t remotely rise to the greatness of single player-centric adventures like BioShock but is still fun in its own right, then Last Light may just be for you. Just be prepared to deal with some glaring AI issues and disappointing technical problems.

Hinsichtlich Storytelling und Atmosphäre spielt Metro Last Light ganz vorne mit. Mit einfachen, aber effektiven Mitteln hat mich die Endzeit-Action vor allem nach dem etwas dick auftragenden ersten Drittel emotional am Schlawittchen gepackt – auch wenn die sexuellen Bezüge überbetont und von einer peinlichen „Boob-Physik“ unterstützt werden, gegen die die vorstechenden Merkmale der Dead Or Alive-Damen absolut real wirken. Dennoch konnte ich nicht nur dank der zahlreichen ruhigen Momente, die sich die Erzählung gönnt, in die Welt eintauchen und musste einige Male angesichts der Kompromisslosigkeit schwer schlucken. Das haben in dieser Intensität bei mir nur wenige Spiele ausgelöst – nicht einmal BioShock Infinite gelang es, diese Saiten bei mir anzuschlagen. Großen Anteil daran hat die Kulisse: Auf einem potenten Rechner (und mit verschmerzbaren Einschränkungen auf Konsolen) zieht die hauseigene Engine alle Effekt- und Beleuchtungs-Register, sorgt so für beeindruckende Bilder und muss sich eigentlich nur hinsichtlich Mimik den Platzhirschen von Crytek, Epic oder id geschlagen geben. Doch sobald es in den eigentlichen Kern geht, die Action, gibt es starke Probleme: Angeführt von einer unterirdischen KI werden die Gefechte sowohl gegen menschliche als auch gegen monströse Gegner schnell zur lästigen Routine. So wird ein Titel, der eigentlich das Zeug hätte, die Action-Schwergewichte gehörig unter Druck zu setzen, vollkommen unnötig degradiert.
