Toukiden 2 es todo lo bueno que tenía su antecesor y más. Ofrece un relato más trabajado, lo que se agradece, pero sobre todo destaca en la excelente jugabilidad, que ha sabido pulir y ampliar de la mejor manera posible abriendo un nuevo abanico de posibilidades para todos aquellos que disfrutarán del anterior y que sabrán apreciar en esta secuela. Pero aunque no se haya jugado antes, Toukiden 2 sigue siendo un estupendo juego de caza en el que merece la pena sumergirse. Si solo el apartado gráfico hubiera sido más notable, hubiéramos estado ante una joya aún mayor.

I could go on and on as to why Toukiden 2 should be your go to monster slaying game. But doing so would take away from the experience. I will say this, though. Monster hunting games hinge on the amount of content they offer, and this title has tons. You’ll have fun for hours — unless using giant swords and a cool ghost hand isn’t your idea of a good time. All in all, Toukiden 2 offers a fresh monster hunting story that’s surprisingly rich in its narrative and stylistically consistent across the board. If it sounds like something you want to check you, the game is available now for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. Now if you’ll excuse me. I have some very mean monsters to fight.

Toukiden 2 takes a core from Kiwami and makes some subtle changes that develop the whole thing from Monster Hunter clone to something unique in the genre. The new, faster combat is a ton of fun and while cramped controls and limited presentation are there and a bother, they aren’t the end of the world and don’t frequently get in the way of the fun.

Though the plot opens the door to some compelling storytelling only to trip while walking in, there are so many other reasons to give Toukiden 2 a spin. This is faster and more action packed when compared to other titles in the genre. It features a truly open world with load times only occurring when first starting up, fast traveling, story transition or game over. Even then, loads are short. The player can explore and quest for hours without ever needing to stop. When taking into account the massive amount of options packed into this title, they might not want to.

Toukiden 2 garde les solides mécaniques globales de son prédécesseur, en apportant son lot de nouveautés. L'aspect RPG, loot et craft est toujours efficace, et les combats sont nerveux, dynamiques et grisants. Le jeu quitte en revanche le giron des "Monster Hunter-Like" classiques pour proposer une aventure en monde ouvert. Et si le level design fait preuve d'une certaine inégalité et que cette orientation engendre un peu de répétitivité, l'aspect exploration, lui, y gagne énormément. Associé à une narration de qualité, chose assez rare dans ce genre, Toukiden 2 propose un univers vraiment très séduisant. Si vous êtes un adepte de la chasse aux monstres en équipe, je ne peut que vous conseiller d'investir temps et argent dans ce titre.

Minor annoyances aside, Toukiden 2 has some truly addictive gameplay and tonnes of content to chew through. The game's dripping with atmosphere and looks great, with plenty of varied, large open world areas to explore. Meanwhile, the battle system is satisfyingly fast paced, and nothing quite compares to the power trip of ripping off the body parts of a giant demon.

En conservant les bases de son ainé, Toukiden 2 raffine une formule déjà fort plaisante grâce à l’ajout de nouveautés qui font mouche. Le titre se forge une personnalité plus distincte en adoptant une progression dans des zones plus ouvertes où les affrontements avec les Onis s’entrecoupent de quêtes et de phases d’exploration. Plus accessible qu’un Monster Hunter, la production d’Omega Force renforce son approche hack’n slash avec des combats encore plus nerveux (merci la main du démon) et un panel d’aptitudes plus étoffé. Toujours plus agréable à parcourir en multi qu’en solitaire où une certaine répétitivité inhérente au genre pourra s’installer, Toukiden 2 n’en promet pas moins de très longues heures de jeu, de farm et de découpage en règle de démons.

Toukiden 2 improves pretty much on every feature of its predecessors, with an interesting approach to open world gameplay, a good number of customization possibilities, an engaging story featuring a charming cast of characters, and plenty of intense action. Sadly, combat tends to become a bit stale after a while in single player, as good equipment and skills allow players to just mash their way through the hordes of Oni infesting the land. Toukiden 2 is, without a doubt, a quality title and the best entry in the series, but with other recent games delivering better open world design and combat it may be difficult for some to be enthralled by the Omega Force developed game.

Toukiden 2 risulta un buon passo avanti e nella giusta direzione per il brand di Omega Force; uno sviluppo più preciso ed al passo con i tempi avrebbe certamente giovato ulteriormente alla produzione, ma la direzione sembra ben chiara. Ora non resta che togliersi quell'alone di “Vorrei ma non posso essere Monste hunter” ed intraprendere un percorso proprio fino in fondo, e magari insidiare Capcom in un genere dove risulta completamente monopolista. In ogni caso l'esperienza di gioco risulta piacevole, se avrete la pazienza di superare le 4/5 noiosissime ore iniziali.

Overall, Toukiden 2 is a determined step forward for Koei Tecmo’s action series. It keeps the unique setting and complex mechanics that made this one of the few hunting games that have rightfully earned a dedicated following, and adds an open-world system and gameplay possibilities that solidifies its position not just as one of the best Monster Hunter alternatives, but as an action game on its own. It’s just the graphic limitations that will keep this from appealing to a bigger audience.

Im Kern ist die erste echte Fortsetzung nur ein behutsam erweitertes Toukiden: Durch sinnvolle Verbesserungen erhält es zusätzliche Tiefe – alles in allem inszeniert es aber nach wie vor einen recht eintönigen Kreislauf, in dem man gegen immer gleiche Monster kämpft und die immer gleichen Materialien sammelt. Keine Frage: Das ist mächtig motivierend, zumal vor allem die Charakterentwicklung durch eng verknüpfte Bausteine zum Lauf im Hamsterrad anspornt. Zum einen ist Toukiden 2 aber weder auf PlayStation 4 und schon gar nicht auf Vita technisch zeitgemäß, zum anderen sind die separaten Missionen der Onlineanbindung besonders für ein großes Konsolenspiel nicht mehr als eine nette Dreingabe. Dass man die offene Welt nicht gemeinsam mit Freunden erkunden kann, fehlt hier einfach. Dass es die offene Welt überhaupt gibt, tut der Dämonenjagd allerdings verdammt gut, denn zum ersten Mal seit vielen Jahren fühlt sich das Prinzip Monster Hunter wie ein modernes Abenteuer an. Auch das schnelle Heranziehen an Gegner und Felsen verleiht ihm neuen Schwung. Hinzu kommt eine unterhaltsame Geschichte sowie ein gelungener Wechsel aus rotem Faden und freier Arbeitsgestaltung. Das Spiel könnte abwechslungsreicher sein und die Welt dynamischer – alles in allem habe ich meinen Ausflug in die Dämonenwelt aber zum ersten Mal genießen können!

Toukiden 2 is without question a fun game, but so is Dynasty Warriors. My ultimate takeaway is that Omega Force has touched on some pleasant RPG charm and exploration of world and character here, but perhaps hasn’t gone far enough; instead, the game flirts with such elements before falling back on familiarity. Still, if you’re a combat junkie you’ll enjoy the game, and between the many weapon types, new Demon Hand capability, and return of Mitama spells and buffs, you’re unlikely to get bored even if the level of complexity doesn’t exactly match up with what you seek. If you’re in it for what Omega Force does well, then you likely already know you want the game. Otherwise, Toukiden 2 is a fun diversion that is generally outclassed by its open-world RPG stablemates.

La filosofia alla base di Toukiden 2 è potenzialmente interessante e chi ha apprezzato la caccia ai grossi mostri nelle precedenti uscite della serie probabilmente potrebbe trovare anche in questo nuovo capitolo qualche spunto positivo. Ma la prima cosa da sottolineare è che in questi ultimi tre anni, e ancor più negli ultimi mesi, la qualità media dei prodotti tripla A è stata protagonista di una discreta impennata verso l’alto a cui la saga di Koei e Omega Forse non sembra aver partecipato neanche con un saluto dalla distanza. Tecnicamente, in particolare, siamo ancora abbastanza ancorati ai livelli del primo episodio per PS Vita (già tutt’altro che esaltante). Ma è anche, se non soprattutto, nell’esperienza utente complessiva che Toukiden 2 stenta tantissimo. La complessità, che dovrebbe essere uno dei punti di forza del titolo, gli si ritorce contro a causa dell’incapacità di proporre al giocatore gli strumenti giusti per immedesimarsi. Il risultato è un’esperienza noiosa (per via di tanti dialoghi lunghissimi e privi di alcun tipo di ispirazione), ostica (per via di menu tutt’altro che intuitivi che il gioco cerca di spiegare con didascalie pesanti e per niente amichevoli) e per molti anche proibitiva, dal momento che il gioco è doppiato in giapponese con testi in inglese. A questo si alterna un gameplay che in alcuni aspetti (lo scontro con i nemici più grossi) è migliore del resto del prodotto, ma che in altri invece (esplorazione della mappa di gioco) è anche tranquillamente adeguato alla povertà grafica e alla scarsa praticità dell’interfaccia utente. Insomma, non ne vale la pena. Non in questo periodo, poi.
