Supermassive Games nos trae The Inpatient, una terrorífica aventura para PlayStation VR que gráficamente está en lo mas alto de la RV en estos momentos al igual que en su apartado sonoro y su posibilidad de interactuar con nuestra propia voz con los personajes, lo que lo hacen a pesar de algunos problemas de detección en los mandos que seguramente se pulirán en breve, en un indispensable para PlayStation VR si eres amante del género del terror.

Supermassive Games has aimed for something truly ambitious in the horror sector with The Inpatient. While there are some fine ideas in play, this brief psychological experience could've used a little bit more time in therapy.

The Inpatient è un titolo che non riesco a promuovere a pieni voti. Una storia non troppo esaltante ed una longevità troppo breve, rendono questa nuova opera di Supermassive Games un gioco buono ma che poteva ambire a ben di più. The Inpatient è un titolo che, se avete un VR e avete amato Until Dawn, va assolutamente giocato. Però, considerando anche la troppo lieve differenza tra un finale e l'altro, unico vero motivo per cui vale la pena riaffrontare la storia, vi invito a valutare bene l'acquisto prima di ritrovarvi per le mani qualcosa che poteva decisamente dare di più.

The Inpatient es una experiencia de terror satisfactoria, pero muy limitada en su planteamiento y ejecución, ya que se acaba quedando en poco más que un tren de la bruja en el que solo tomamos alguna pequeña decisión durante su desarrollo de la historia que pretende contarnos. Además es corto y poco rejugable para la franja de precios que maneja.

Aunque es uno de los juegos mejor acabados para PSVR, y uno de los primeros en incorporar reconocimiento de voz (con lo que la inmersión es aún mejor), resulta corto y tiene un ritmo demasiado lento. Nos hemos llevado un par de buenos sustos en los primeros compases.

The Inpatient parece una obra primeriza, que comete todos los errores de novato de un juego centrado en querer contarte una historia y, por el camino, meterte tensión en el cuerpo. Su desarrollo carece de ritmo, interés y resulta, cuanto menos, inconexo. Hay mejores juegos y experiencias en realidad virtual y, sobre todo, mucho más relevantes.

Alla fine dei giochi, The Inpatient suona come un'occasione mancata. La fatica dei creatori di Until Dawn riesce a esprimersi su buoni livelli soprattutto dal punto di vista tecnico, zoppicando però vistosamente in ambito narrativo. A una storia breve e prevedibile si accompagnano pochissime trovate in grado di turbare oltre il "jump scare", rendendo quindi The Inpatient un titolo da giocare solo nel caso in cui abbiate amato in modo particolare Until Dawn. Approfittando magari di uno sconto nei prossimi mesi.

The Inpatient è un horror che non sa spaventare, se non con qualche semplicissimo trucchetto di bassa lega, che non sa raccontare una storia senza far sbadigliare e, cosa forse ancor più grave visto i precedenti di Supermassive Games, che non sa nemmeno utilizzare la realtà virtuale al meglio, eccezion fatta per uno o due timidi lampi di genio. Ci vogliono circa quattro ore per portare a termine questo prequel/spin-off di Until Dawn, e quel che rimane addosso è solo la spiacevole sensazione di un’incredibile occasione sprecata.

The Inpatient’s short duration and lack of entertainment value doesn’t warrant its forty dollar price tag. For fans of Until Dawn, it does a decent job of filling in important information prior to the events of the original game. For everyone else, it’s a dull experience that never quite feels like it’s going anywhere worthwhile. Horror and VR are a natural fit, but with The Inpatient, it’s clear that the pairing doesn’t always work quite the way it should.

Ci si mette anche il prezzo (francamente esagerato) a fare di The Inpatient un’esperienza in realtà virtuale deludente e mediocre sotto molti punti di vista tra cui il ritmo, la narrazione, l’interazione con l’ambiente e il sistema di controllo. Un vero peccato, anche perché con una simile ambientazione e con le indubbie capacità tecniche di Supermassive Games le aspettative erano ben altre. Insomma, un walking simulator a sfondo horror deludente e con un ritmo tra i più soporiferi che mi sia capitato di sperimentare in un gioco in VR.

En fait, The Inpatient c’est Until Dawn en moins bien, et en moins bien exploité en définitive. Le bébé de Supermassive Games a voulu peut-être bien faire en voulant proposer une expérience en réalité virtuelle très courte en revenant sur ce qu’il s’est passé avant Until Dawn, mais le studio s’est littéralement pris le mur. Effectivement, l’effet papillon parfaitement maîtrisé dans Until Dawn est bridé à mort dans The Inpatient car les conséquences ne se voient qu’à la fin, puis la progression dans le soft est lente au possible. La narration est en sus brouillonne et n’apporte strictement rien de plus vis-à-vis d’Until Dawn. Vous l’aurez compris, les défauts de narration et de gameplay pleuvent sur The Inpatient, qui pourra se consoler avec un sound design convenable et un aspect graphique plutôt joli. Mais pour 39.99 €, et même s’il y a plusieurs fins qui se rapprochent plus ou moins niveau finalité, circulez il n’y a rien à voir…

The Inpatient déçoit en n’étant qu’un simulateur de marche à tendance horrifique qui ne propose ni affrontement, ni fuite, ni énigme. Son scénario est, de plus, aussi plat que l’électro-cardiogramme d’un cadavre trop flemmard pour se relever. Dans cet étrange purgatoire où se côtoient les clones des acteurs d’Hidden Agenda, il est difficile d’éprouver de l’empathie pour qui que ce soit. Très court, le titre peine à créer des embranchements différents selon les choix, hormis à la toute fin. À l’image de la tragédie ayant engendré l’arrivée de la terrible malédiction qui frappe Blackwood Pines, The Inpatient est un titre mineur.
