The Lord of the Rings: Gollum The Lord of the Rings: Gollum è stato un titolo veramente difficile da valutare. Senza dubbio è un titolo molto vario, tuttavia i suoi evidenti difetti e il suo "linguaggio", tanto poco immediato, quanto affascinante, retaggio di un'epoca ormai passata (che abbiamo amato), lo rendono difficile da consigliare universalmente. Come abbiamo già detto, più che in altre occasioni, lasciate stare il numerino che troverete qui di fianco. Se volete fare un tuffo nel passato, prendetelo, anche al primo price-cut. Se invece pensate che tale impostazione sia ormai superata, andate pure avanti, fortunatamente il mercato dei videogiochi non è mai stato così pieno di proposte per tutti i gusti. Just like Gollum, I'm a bit split. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum features a great story that adds to the lore, along with a terrific stealth system, but it misses the mark in other areas. A finicky and redundant platforming system, mixed with a dialogue system that lacks bite makes for a combination that drags the rest down. Gollum is always so close to The Ring, but ever so far.

The Lord of the Rings Gollum è un titolo tutt’altro che esente da difetti. Il gameplay scarno e ripetitivo, il completamento poco appagante dei livelli, la monotonia di ambienti e nemici rendono l’avventura non proprio memorabile, con la presenza di alcune sequenze più riuscite ma mai in grado di ribaltare favorevolmente la situazione. Il comparto tecnico e grafico, davvero troppo datato, non aiuta neanche con il colpo d’occhio generale – su PlayStation 5 qualsiasi produzione minore è in grado di offrire di meglio – e il sistema basato sulle scelte è del tutto ininfluente ai fini della trama, limitandosi ad offrire per pochi momenti “qualcosa di differente”. Resta un’osservazione: i fan del Signore degli Anelli troveranno comunque qualche elemento interessante, almeno a livello di trama, informazioni e della cosiddetta “lore”. Il problema è che tutti gli altri non avranno grandi motivazioni “videoludiche” per intraprendere questa “sventurata avventura” in compagnia di un altrettanto sventurato personaggio. Ed è un peccato! Secondo la nostra modesta opinione, Gollum avrebbe forse brillato in un’altra tipologia di titolo, nella forma di comprimario e non di protagonista.

Nous avons eu beaucoup de mal à donner une note précise et représentative de l'expérience de Gollum. Si vous attendiez une oeuvre au rendu visuel à couper le souffle, couplé d'une aventure grandiose et épique, vous risquez d'être déçu. Son contenu, bien que répétitif, sa technique clairement en dessous et son gameplay peu inspiré, donne à réfléchir sur la vie de Gollum et la façon dont chacun, bon comme mauvais, l'on traité durant sa vie. Le jeu prend son sens si vous acceptez de vous perdre dans l'esprit du pauvre Smeagol et que vous prenez en compte les moments où vous avez laissé la violence et la colère de Gollum prendre le dessus pour vous faciliter la tâche. Le voyage de Gollum le plus passionnant n'est pas sur la Terre du Milieu mais bel et bien dans son esprit.

El Señor de los Anillos: Gollum es un juego encomiable por el esfuerzo de Daedalic de narrar una historia totalmente original en la Tierra Media mezclando mecánicas de sigilo y plataformas, pero hace aguas por casi todos los lados: controles imprecisos, IA terrible, narrativa insípida, diseño de niveles anticuado y gráficos de otra generación.

Se la componente ludica de Il Signore degli Anelli: Gollum fosse stata all’altezza di quella narrativa, che per inciso non sarebbe meritevole di un Booker Prize ma perlomeno non farebbe rivoltare nella tomba J. R. R. Tolkien, sarei stato qui a parlarvi di un’avventura in terza persona che avrebbe reso mediamente felici i fan della serie. Così non è stato, purtroppo, perché l’ultima iterazione videoludica dedicata a Il Signore degli Anelli si trascina dietro difetti ed errori che arrivano perfino a metterne in dubbio il senso di esistere, dal momento che l’avventura in terza persona di Daedalic Entertainment fatica a ingranare dal punto di vista del gameplay e della struttura di gioco. Ma più che dare colpa alla svogliatezza, strada non percorribile considerando che gli sviluppatori hanno dimostrato di aver studiato a fondo le opere tolkeniane e non solo, a emergere è stata più che altro la poca dimestichezza da parte degli sviluppatori con un genere diverso da quello delle avventure narrative. I solchi rugosi del comparto tecnico non addolciscono una situazione tutt’altro che perfetta, per quanto la caratterizzazione vocale e introspettiva di Gollum e Sméagol siano il vero “tesssoro” di una produzione apparsa fuori tempo massimo già quando venne presentato al pubblico.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum è un esperimento del tutto fallito. Non c'è nulla da salvare se non forse l'interpretazione del nuovo doppiatore di Gollum, che svilisce, però, la sua professionalità nell'andare a replicare quanto già fatto da Serkis e senza dare una sua interpretazione. Per il resto se siete incuriositi dalle vicende di Gollum potete fantasticare su ciò che accadde durante la sua prigionia, senza dovervi lanciare in un'esperienza così mal costruita e mal proposta, tanto da domandarci come sia possibile avere tra le mani un prodotto del genere nel 2023.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum could have ushered in a new era of The Lord of the Rings-based games. One that had the daring to fill in Tolkien’s gaps, but still showed respect for the source material. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum isn’t that game. While the story is compelling with a great performance from Smeagol/Gollum, the remainder of the game is a woeful mess. While Daedalic’s vision for Middle-earth is filled with artistic beauty, it’s altogether let down by a terrible technical presentation that’s far behind today’s standards. Ultimately, though, it’s the lack of polish and jankiness that is its undoing. From the myriad gameplay issues that bog down the simple mechanics to the mind-numbing crashes capable of hampering progression, there is little about The Lord of the Rings: Gollum that’s polished or enjoyable. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum crafts a compelling story around Gollum and Smeagol, but it fails to craft a polished, stable or enjoyable gameplay experience. Unfortunately, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum isn’t the Precious we’ve been searching for.

No puedo decir que El Señor de los Anillos Gollum sea un juego de contrastes. De blancos y negros, porque os estaría mintiendo. Lo malo pesa sobre lo bueno. Si eres fan de El Señor de los Anillos como yo, no puedo recomendarte el juego. Que te apetezca jugarlo o no dependerá de cómo de curioso seas a la hora de saber qué hizo este pequeñajo antes de La Comunidad del Anillo. Pero, todo queda encapsulado en un proyecto independiente, fácilmente olvidable y no muy satisfactorio de jugar.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a broken mess of a game. There are barely any redeeming qualities to be found amidst what can only be described as a massive missed opportunity. There is some serious potential in a single-player linear Lord of the Rings experience like this, but with outrageously dated level design, clunky controls, a severe lack of polish, muddy and unimpressive graphics, and a dull story, Gollum completely misses the mark. As massive fans of the books, films, and games, it's sad to see that there is nothing precious about this experience.
