Earth Defense Force 2025 is nothing if not epic in size, scope and action. When dozens of enemies are scampering over the field, a swarm of air enemies flying through the air raining waves of firepower onto the field, and the giant robots in the distance are walking closer and about to start arcing explosive plasma balls your way, it's hard not to take a second to appreciate how much awesome has been crammed onto the screen. The missions are nicely bite-sized despite all that, about 5-10 minutes apiece, but with over 80 total it's going to take a lot of bug-squishing to see the end even if you don't farm the levels for weapons and armor. Or, for that matter, play through the harder difficulty levels, go online, replay familiar levels with new weapon combinations to test new strategies, check out the different character classes, or any number of other time-extending possibilities the game almost begs to be explored. Earth Defense Force 2025 is a fantastic example of everything that makes pure action gaming so much fun, packed with replay value and over the top set pieces, and a more than worthy sequel that tops its predecessor in every way. Seeing as EDF 2017 is one of the best 3D action shooters ever, that's a pretty impressive accomplishment.

L'amour. Les fans le répètent à l'envie : on ne joue pas à Earth Defense Forces pour la technique, mais pour l'amour du travail fait maison, celui de la grosse déconnade rétro mais faite avec sérieux. C'est comme aimer un film où l'on voit clairement qu'il y a un mec sous le déguisement de Godzilla, en train de casser des maquettes de villes en carton. Plus que jamais, Earth Defense Force représente une valeur sûre dans une bonne vieille violence brutale. Du bon gros trauma rugueux comme de la féraille rouillée, efficace comme un bombardement. Earth Defense Forces 4 n'y fait pas exception : on y sent l'amour du kitsch, du cinéma Z d'exploitation. Earth Defense Force est un jeu qui aime les jeux vidéo.

Ähnlich wie Koeis Dynasty-Warriors-Serie ist Earth Defense Force einer dieser Titel, die man entweder hasst oder liebt. Ich gehöre zur zweiten Gruppe – hier wie da. Die Katastrophenfilm-Action zum Mitspielen drückt einem eine (oder mehrere) Waffen in die Hand, baut in einer nahezu komplett zerstörbaren Stadt hunderte Gegner auf und ruft einem schließlich zu: „Mach sie platt! Alle!“ Dieser Aufforderung komme ich gerne nach – vor allem, wenn ich mit Gleichgesinnten am Offline-Splitscreen oder zu viert online gegen überdimensionierte Insekten, Roboter oder Reptilien antreten kann. Solo ist der Unterhaltungswert zwar geringer, aber mit dem Beherrschen der vier Klassen hat man auch hier genug zu tun – zumal man nicht nur mit den Feinden, sondern auch mit dem wankelmütigen Schwierigkeitsgrad und dem Zufallsprinzip bei den Power-ups kämpft. Angesichts des sich schnell einstellenden Action-Spaßes ist mir die Kulisse auf gehobenem PS2-Niveau weitgehend egal.

Los seguidores de los juegos de acción más tradicionales y "sin adulterar" se darán un nuevo festín con esta nueva producción de D3. EDF 2025 es un arcade de disparos de los de toda la vida, realmente básico, que apuesta por la acción multijugador como principal baluarte. No es un título para todos los paladares, eso lo tenemos muy claro, pero se hace divertido e incluso "enganchante".

Earth Defence Force 2025 è probabilmente il titolo più curato e completo della saga, permettendoci di affrontare la campagna con ben quattro personaggi e con ben 6 livelli di difficoltà, sia in solitaria che in compagnia, accompagnando il tutto da un sistema (abbozzato) di sviluppo e potenziamento del nostro avatar. Purtroppo però l'aspetto tecnico ed artistico del titolo e la trama completamente assente, insieme alla ripetitività, non lo elevano dalla massa e non lo fanno staccare dalla mediocrità che ha sempre distinto questa serie. Una svecchiata alle meccaniche di gioco ed un deciso passo avanti per lo meno sul fronte artistico è fortemente necessario per poter mantenere viva la saga sulle console di nuova generazione, e doveva già essere fatto con questo capitolo uscito alla fine del ciclo vitale di PS3. Il divertimento non manca, per questo ci sentiamo di consigliarlo ugualmente a chi è in cerca di un titolo spensierato, da giocare in compagnia a cervello spento, o a chi è in cerca di un titolo dove uccidere nemici enormi in quantità armati di mitra ed armi più o meno assurde.

Earth Defense Force 2025, a game about fighting giant bugs, has been dragged down by significant performance bugs. I can forgive (and even enjoy) the quirky physics and awkward voice acting EDF is known for, but the terrible frame rate turns this fast-paced action game into a slow-motion chug-fest when it matters most. Killing bugs with these varied classes and weapons is still a ton of fun (especially in co-op) but not what it should be.

Il nuovo capitolo della serie Earth Defense Force offre ben poche novità rispetto alla formula conosciuta nei precedenti capitoli della serie. Tutti coloro che non ne avessero già apprezzato la frenesia dei combattimenti e la quantità impressionante di nemici da affrontare, infatti, difficilmente verranno attratti da un gameplay ripetitivo e una sfida mai in grado di impensierire i veterani del genere. Nemmeno sotto il profilo tecnico, purtroppo, l'ormai discreta esperienza accumulata da Sandlot sulle piattaforme di 'vecchia' generazione si è tradotta in quel salto di qualità del quale, onestamente, la serie sembra avere un vitale bisogno. Insufficiente tanto dal punto di vista grafico quanto nel suo comparto sonoro, Earth Defense Force 2025 riesce a riscattarsi solo grazie ad un'offerta di contenuti e modalità di gioco discreta, in grado di soddisfare quantomeno i fan più fedeli della saga. Dopo questo capitolo, comunque, Sandlot dovrà pensare ad una necessaria evoluzione della serie, altrimenti destinata, a differenza degli insetti protagonisti del franchise, ad una lenta ma inesorabile estinzione.

Earth Defense Force 2025, nella sua ipnotica mediocrità, è un titolo molto divertente, per certi versi anche ironico, scanzonato e citazionista. L’aura kitsch che ammanta l’intera produzione lo rende appetibile e “simpatico”, ma è difficile ignorarne i gravi problemi tecnici. A questo punto, solitamente, il mitico cestone delle offerte viene in soccorso ai più indecisi. Con una grafica da PS2 e una struttura leggermente semplicistica, il gioco Sandloft può certamente ambire al titolo di Re dei Cestoni. Ma fino ad allora, non è certo il caso di valutarne l’acquisto a prezzo pieno. Con l’unica eccezione degli irriducibili fan del trash nipponico.
