Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory es un ejemplo claro de ese tipo de juegos que están hechos para exprimir más beneficios de un título de éxito. Construido sobre la base de lo que ya hizo notable al primer juego, esta nueva entrega tan sólo le añade unas pocas novedades de poco peso y se disfraza de juego nuevo. ¿Queremos decir con esto que Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory es malo? No, porque lo que hizo tan válido al primer Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, le hace válido igualmente a éste. Pero, al mismo tiempo, no hay nada que haga avanzar la fórmula, que introduzca una novedad que justifique que tengamos un nuevo juego. Sigue siendo un buen JRPG, pero debemos ser conscientes de que es más de lo mismo, para lo bueno, y para lo malo.

A pesar de presentar prácticamente las mismas fortalezas que el primero, Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory no consigue que su historia sea tan interesante como la del primero y la constante sensación de familiaridad con la mayoría de escenarios del mundo digital y real juegan en su contra. Por suerte, da a los Digimon el protagonismo de la aventura, elevando su número hasta los más de 320 y permitiendo explorar en todo su esplendor el sistema evolutivo y los complejos combates con doble debilidad.

Come previsto, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory si è rivelato un degno successore del precedente Cyber Sleuth, offrendo un’esperienza nostalgica a quella nutrita fetta di utenza che ancora oggi chiede a gran voce il ritorno dei JRPG old-school, caratterizzati dai classici combat system a turni e gli amati/odiati incontri casuali. Limitandosi ad incrementare il già elevato numero di creature sbloccabili, che in questo caso ha stabilito un vero e proprio record, lo sviluppatore Media.Vision non ha apportato sostanziali cambiamenti al datato comparto tecnico, riciclando in maniera piuttosto sfacciata le texture ed i modelli poligonali di un gioco lanciato sul mercato nipponico ormai tre anni fa. Una decisione, questa, che ha inevitabilmente penalizzato il nostro giudizio finale. A ragion veduta, ne consigliamo l’avvicinamento ai più sfegatati appassionati del brand e a tutti coloro che vogliano (ri)scoprire un pregevole battle system palesemente ispirato a Final Fantasy X.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory ripropone tutti i contenuti del primo capitolo della serie, aggiungendo trama e protagonisti inediti, e 87 nuove creature. Tutto quello che avete già visto tornerà immutato: combattimenti, aree di gioco, e la DigiFarm dove accudire le vostre creature. Tornano anche i limiti tecnici che lo fanno assomigliare più ad un gioco per PlayStation 3 che ad un capitolo per current gen: ma a fronte di un gameplay solido, combattimenti funzionali, personaggi interessanti e una grande spinta al collezionismo, si può perdonare.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory may not be a true sequel to the 2016 original, but it’s a better version of a familiar experience. The visuals don’t shine as brightly on PS4 and players will have to wander through a lot of recycled content before encountering much new. While it would have been nice to have new areas, Hacker’s Memory is carried by its profoundly personal story, engrossing combat and progression mechanics, and various quality of life improvements. While newcomers may find the experience a little confusing, returning players will appreciate meeting up with returning characters and experiencing the enhancements implemented to improve the experience. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory may not be a true sequel, but the quality put into the story, combat and progression make it a worthy successor.

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory isn’t so much the Majora’s Mask as it hoped to be, but the story here grabbed me from the start and the pace kept me in. The scope of the game earns it being more than DLC, but the huge leaning on reused assets will quickly tire a returning player. Take it in stride however, and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Hacker’s Memory is every bit the decent RPG that the previous game was.

If you’re a Digimon fan, Cyber Sleuth - Hacker’s Memory will consume your time and then some. If not, the game won’t do much to get you to fall in love with the brand, but its core gameplay loop is engrossing for people with an affinity for collecting.

What I did wish was for the option to have an English dub, as reading so much got tiresome after long periods of time. Though as someone who genuinely wants to learn Japanese, this was a blessing in disguise and eventually I got used to all the reading and the story stayed captivating enough for me keep going. If you like a nice cross between Pokémon and Persona 5, this game gives it to you quite well. With battle mechanics that gamers already know, the familiarity of a series most have grown up with, and a compelling roster of characters and situations, this game can easily become addictive in the quest to retain your identity and have a blast along the way. If only the graphics and the camera issues were addressed a bit more, this truly could’ve been a much stronger game.

Bandai Namco nos ofrece una interesante aventura de rol ambientada en el mundo digital de la franquicia Digimon. Un juego que no puede presumir por acumular una amplia cantidad de novedades (más bien lo opuesto) pero que, en cualquier caso, acaba resultando absorbente, entretenido y dotado de ese encanto especial que sólo estas criaturas tan entrañables son capaces de proporcionar. Esperamos que Bandai Namco apoye con más fuerza esta saga de ahora en adelante porque creemos que lo merece.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory è un gioco dedicato solo agli appassionati dei mostri digitali, se avete apprezzato Cyber Sleuth due anni fa, apprezzerete allo stesso modo anche questo nuovo capitolo, a patto di tenere ben in mente che il titolo presenta davvero pochissime novità e un comparto tecnico abbastanza sotto tono. La speranza è che le prossime iterazioni videoludiche dei Digimon trovino il coraggio di osare un po’ di più e proporre così qualcosa di ancora più divertente per i fan.

Reprenant quasiment à l’identique la recette du précédent volet, Digimon Story : Cyber Sleuth Hacker’s Memory n’en demeure pas moins un très bon J-RPG. Certes, hormis du côté de son scénario plutôt bien écrit, le titre ne nous surprend jamais. Cependant, au-delà de ça il propose tout de même une expérience riche, un gameplay aux petits oignons, un contenu conséquent, et même un nouveau mode de jeu. Si vous avez fait Cyber Sleuth et que replonger dans le même univers, avec les mêmes mécaniques, ne vous ennuie pas, alors vous pouvez foncer les yeux fermés. Si vous attendiez plus de cet opus, toutefois, vous pouvez passer votre chemin. Quant aux néophytes, ils peuvent tout à fait débuter l’aventure avec ce second volet, qui ne perdra en route que les amateurs de dynamisme, la faute à des dialogues trop longs et nombreux, et les anglophobes, le titre n’étant pas traduit.

S’il n’innove quasiment en rien, Digimon Story : Cyber Sleuth- Hacker’s Memory s’avère une « suite » intéressante qui permettra à ceux qui ont retourné le volet original d’en savoir plus sur certains passages de l’intrigue, sur certains personnages et d’en recroiser quelques uns. Mécaniquement parlant, rien à redire ou presque, le titre de Media .Vision retient le joueur par les possibilités d’évolution de ses Digimon, par leur nombre colossal ou par les finesses du système de combat, une fois qu’on a dépassé les premières heures d’introduction. Hacker’s Memory pourra donc passionner ceux qui ont dévoré Cyber Sleuth, ou, a contrario les lasser par la répétition des mêmes décors, des mêmes modèles et animations de personnages, des mêmes rues et allées virtuelles. L’intérêt que vous porterez à Hacker’s Memory dépendra donc de votre capacité à arpenter (presque) les mêmes décors avec des personnages différents et une intrigue parallèle, mais linéaire, et à un prix exhorbitant. Et seul vous pouvez le savoir…

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory is a confusing product. It’s too complex and longwinded for kids, but too easy, repetitive, and derivative for most adults. The game was made with fans of the original Cyber Sleuth in mind, but will frustrate those same fans with its rampant rehashing. Hardcore Digimon devotees may find something to enjoy here, but most will want to forget Hacker's Memory.
