Upraised by a prodigious score from Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Radiant Silvergun, Vagrant Story), 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is undeniably one of the most ambitious offers to arrive on Switch. Narratively, the title’s entwining of plot strands and inspired world building is unrivaled. What’s more, the game adeptly leaps from heartfelt confession to giant science fiction reveal with staggering suppleness. While Vanillaware could have easily iterated on their previous successes, the team’s willingness to venture out in an audacious new direction was praiseworthy. 13 Sentinels’ aim is high, but amazingly the studio pulls it off with nary a hitch.

Dopo più di un anno e mezzo, l'opera probabilmente più ambiziosa di George Kamitani, il talentuoso ex-Capcom, si palesa nella sua forma probabilmente più giusta. Potrebbe sembrare una frase fatta e forse banale, ma la portabilità aggiunge tutto un altro livello di fruizione a un titolo che non fa della forza poligonale la sua caratteristica principale, tutto il contrario. Per questo, giocare a 13 Sentinels su Switch è comodo e perfetto per la sua struttura graphic novel, anche grazie a un port completo e correttamente implementato, al netto di micro rallentamenti qua e là frutto più di mancata patch che altro. In ogni caso, Switch o no, vi consigliamo caldamente di lasciarvi affascinare dal mondo etereo e fuori dal tempo, tipicamente giapponese, ideato da Vanillaware per il loro nuovo piccolo, grande classico.

Su capacidad para sorprenderte una y otra vez con sus giros de guión no es más que la punta del iceberg de un videojuego absolutamente genial en lo narrativo, que también da la talla en sus batallas estratégica, aún cuando a estas le habría sentado genial algo más de variedad en los desafíos que proponen. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim era un imprescindible en PS4, y lo es también ahora en Nintendo Switch, con el aliciente de poder disfrutar de su fantástica historia de ciencia ficción en el modo portátil, vayas donde vayas.

La versione per Nintendo Switch di 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ha davvero poco da invidiare all’edizione PS4. Sul piccolo schermo dell’ibrida i cali di frame rate sono un tantino più frequenti e i colori risultano meno accesi di quanto ricordassimo, ma si tratta di minuzie assolutamente trascurabili e controbilanciate dalla possibilità di fruire anche in portabilità del più ambizioso titolo finora realizzato dal team di Vanillaware. Data la struttura narrativa da visual novel (un genere che negli ultimi anni ha fatto di Nintendo Switch la propria patria), non è esagerato asserire che questa potrebbe essere in realtà la vera forma del prodotto, che originariamente era atteso anche su PlayStation Vita. Complice l’ottima localizzazione dei testi in italiano, ne consigliamo l’acquisto a chiunque non abbia ancora avuto l’occasione per cimentarsi coi kaiju e tuffarsi in un universo indimenticabile.

Grâce à un portage soigné, 13 Sentinels : Aegis Rim est un excellent moyen de (re)découvrir cette pépite japonaise de la science-fiction, que ce soit en mode téléviseur ou en nomade. Avec sa proposition étonnante à mi-chemin entre le visual novel et le jeu de rôle tactique, Vanillaware réussit à raconter une histoire passionnante par ses nombreux embranchements et son système de progression original. Au-delà de sa narration, le jeu n'en oublie pas pour autant de mettre en scène des batailles stratégiquement riches et défoulantes malgré des graphismes austères, bien loin de la beauté des visuels dessinés à la main du mode aventure. Un titre à ne pas manquer donc pour tous les amateurs de jeux japonais et de SF, aussi bien que sur la console hybride de Nintendo.
