However, the 4k/1080p remastering of this sequel’s unmistakably cartoony beauty will strike a chord, as will its harmoniously musical gameplay. Ultimately, Patapon 2 remains one of the greatest rhythm games of all-time, if not the greatest.

Patapon 2 era ya bueno en su forma original, y en 4K luce aún mejor. Los mismos pegajosos sonidos, su divertida jugabilidad, sus numerosos secretos y mecánicas con profundidad... Sigue siendo un gran juego a reivindicar, si bien es cierto que el remaster descuida algunos aspectos, como escenas que no han sido remasterizadas.

Papatapon 2 Remastered vient de débarquer sur PS4, et 12 ans après sa sortie sur PSP, il n'a rien perdu de sa superbe. La jouabilité, ou le jeu de rythme croisant le fer avec la stratégie et la gestion, est toujours démentielle, avec un jeu difficile et prenant, et le design, visuel comme sonore, est toujours aussi dingo lui aussi. Patapon 2 n'a pas vieilli et reste un excellent jeu. Par contre, cette mouture Remastered se contente du minimum, avec des trophées, mais enlève le mode multijoueur d'origine et nous propose des cinématiques avec une résolution d'écran PSP ! C'est fort dommage. Si vous n'aviez jamais joué à Patapon, allez-y, c'est de la bonne. Et si vous avez déjà joué à "Dieu", nous resterons plus mesurés.

Patapon 2 is still best-in-class when it comes to the rhythm-action genre but there are some areas where it doesn't hold up, specifically in its clarity and technical prowess. However, if you're looking for an incredibly engaging and euphoric game to help tide you over until 2020's big hitters start to drop, you can't go wrong with this remaster of this beloved PSP title.

Meine Patapons! Sie gehören noch immer zu den drolligsten Figuren, die je über einen Bildschirm gestolpert sind. Sie gucken grimmig, sie tanzen, sie feuern sich gegenseitig an: Sie haben ein furchtbar liebenswertes Eigenleben. Die umfangreiche Entwicklung ihrer Fähigkeiten verleiht ihnen sogar noch mehr Persönlichkeit – ich habe ja den kompletten bunten Haufen selbst zusammengestellt! Doch wenn ich mich schon wieder durch die größtenteils gleich gebliebenen Minirhythmusspiele trommele und wieder, wieder und wieder auf die Jagd nach Rohstoffen gehe, gerät der eigentliche Krieg im Papierschnitt-Theater schnell ins Hintertreffen. Die taktischen Mittel haben zwar zugenommen, dafür unterbrechen Wunder meist den Spielfluss. Vor allem aber laufen die Kämpfe noch immer nach demselben Muster ab wie im Vorgänger – mir fehlen echte Neuerungen. Wer Patapon noch nicht kennt, sollte sich den sympathischen Kriegern schon deshalb vorstellen, weil die hochauflösende Umsetzung praktisch fehlerfrei felungen ist! Erfahrene Gottheiten nicken ihren alten Bekannten hingegen anerkennend, aber ohne allzu große Euphorie zu.

Patapon 2 Remastered brings the best game in the series to modern consoles, and along with it some nice new features and quality of life changes. It wont convert you if weren't already a believer, but it gives existing fans a fantastic new reason to play through this classic once again.

Despite having the rose-tinted glasses violently ripped away, Patapon 2 Remastered is an easy recommendation to existing fans of the series. The 4K conversion adds to the title and the asking price is right. Newcomers, however, should start with the first game, which is also available in a Remastered format for PlayStation 4. This sequel was balanced to appeal to returning players and the update doesn't change that. The original was simply better balanced to bring new players in. In the end, though, after the experience of playing through the remaster in a binge setting brought to light some foibles that went previously unnoticed, this is still a top quality entry in a series that has gone woefully underappreciated. Hopefully time will change that.

Ancora oggi Patapon 2 ha molto da dire, ai vecchi e ai nuovi giocatori. Chi già conosce uno dei piccoli capolavori targati Pyramid e Japan Studio ha l'occasione di recuperarlo in versione riveduta e aggiornata (anche se con qualche limite da questo punto di vista, per esempio nei filmati). Chi non conosce affatto i Patapon può arricchirsi di un titolo importante: Patapon 2 Remastered è fondamentale, all'interno della cultura videoludica di qualsiasi giocatore che si mostri un minimo interessato al proprio "bagaglio di esperienze". Non è una remasterd eccellente e neppure una conversione ottima, ed è un peccato: oltre ai già citati filmati, la modalità multigiocatore è stata asportata senza alcuna compensazione, e di tanto in tanto qualche sbavatura tecnica o un dettaglio fuori posto (soprattutto grafico, più raramente di input lag) saltano all'occhio. Valutate l'acquisto anche in base al vostro amore per i rhythm game strategici, dei quali Patapon 2 era e resta un eccellente esponente.

Patapon 2 Remastered è un gioco divertente e ammaliante, sorprendentemente profondo nelle sue meccaniche gestionali da God Game e gioioso nella sua componente musicale, che riesce a trovare un equilibrio a livello di gameplay notevole considerando i distanti generi che sposa in unico, grande festival di suoni e botte da orbi. La ripetitività degli obiettivi e dei nemici nel corso delle missioni ne mina una fruizione prolungata, aggravata anche dalla rimozione della modalità multiplayer presente nel gioco originale: di conseguenza, Patapon 2 Remastered dà il meglio di sé in brevi sessioni spensierate da giocare in singolo. Un peccato anche l'assenza totale di contenuti extra per questa edizione rimasterizzata e la poca cura generalmente riposta in essa, come alcuni filmati rimasti a risoluzione originale e un frame rate che, nonostante tutto, non è bloccato a 60 fps. Per quanto non sia sicuramente un titolo perfetto, e questa riedizione non porti veramente nulla al di là di una risoluzione video più alta, una cosa è sicura: nella sua anima, ancora oggi, Patapon 2 rimane un gioco unico. E questo è innegabilmente un pregio di rara caratura.

Dispiace che una serie come Patapon, tutt’oggi unica nel genere dei rhythm game, stia faticando a trovar pace fra i pixel delle sue nuove edizioni per PlayStation 4. Intendiamoci: Patapon 2 Remastered è una trasposizione assai migliore di quella che ha ingiustamente macchiato il buon nome del Patapon primogenito. Ciò nonostante, anche questa volta si avvertono gli strascichi di un lavoro superficiale, curato quel poco che serve a giustificare il ritorno di un grande classico in un formato inedito. Se è vero che Patapon 2 Remastered ha ragion d’essere per chiunque non possegga una PSP (o Vita), è altrettanto giusto consigliare a tutti gli altri di rispolverare la propria console portatile e godersi l’esperienza nella sua forma originale, certamente migliore.

Patapon 2 Remastered fails to compensate for the fact that the Sony PSP was a very different device from the PlayStation 4, and in the end, controller latency sinks this classic game adaptation. If the game had compensated for the particulars of its new home, it may have been immensely enjoyable – the core of a great game is intact. But as it stands, Patapon 2 is frustrating and unfun.
