Crimson Dragon è figlio di un budget non stellare e farà piacere a chi aveva voglia di respirare un'aria che manca dal mondo dei videogiochi da troppo tempo, ovvero da quando Panzer Dragoon faceva sognare gli amanti di un certo tipo di shooter che oramai non si fanno più, o quasi. Purtroppo, se dal punto di vista della gestione del drago, Crimson Dragon offre tante sfaccettature, tutto il contorno e l'epicità che ci si aspetterebbe di trovare sono smorzati da un contesto tecnico e artistico risicato che non riesce a coinvolgere quanto sarebbe lecito aspettarsi. È un gioco in digital delivery e quindi il costo è contenuto, i nostalgici avranno comunque la curiosità di vedere e di provare a vedere l'effetto che fa.

Crimson Dragon is an impressive game that falls short of Panzer Dragoon's lofty heights. Visually, it looks better in every way but playable character design. Environmental details make the world come alive, while an epic soundtrack makes your battles within it seem worth fighting. The iffy camera and bumpers can make those fights tougher than they should be, though, and no amount of power-ups and difficulty setting changes can make up for the flaws of the gameplay. Still, at twenty dollars, this is well worth picking up to show support for the franchise and the on-rail genre as a whole. It's lucked into getting a reasonably prominent release during a major system launch, so if it's ever going to become a well-respected niche again, this title's success will be the key that opens up the door. It's got some dings on it, but is still worth traveling through.

Schade: Crimson Dragon war eigentlich mein heiß erwarteter Geheimtipp für die Xbox One, doch mit seinen legendären Vorgängern kann das Spiel nicht mithalten. Die mystischen Drachen, gigantischen Raupen und verschnörkelten Salzfelsen sind zwar wunderhübsch designt, es entwickelt sich aber nicht der gleiche fesselnde Spielfluss wie früher. Der Angriff der zahlreichen Gegner ist nicht so spannend und abwechslungsreich ochestriert wie damals. Außerdem wird es gelegentlich zu unübersichtlich. Auch die verhältnismäßig schwache Technik und die übertrieben fragmentierte Aufrüstung nerven. Im Gegenzug sorgen das Aufpäppeln der Drachen und Experimente mit Attacken auch für Langzeitmotivation. Als ich mich an die Macken des Spiels gewöhnt hatte, hatte ich durchaus Spaß an den schnellen Luftkämpfen und werde mir das Spiel heute auch auf meiner privaten Xbox One kaufen. Trotzdem bin ich nach Genre-Highlights wie Panzer Dragoon Orta, Rez oder Child Of Eden enttäuscht.

Crimson Dragon works well enough as a straight arcade shooter, and there’s plenty of challenge in it. There’s some nostalgic value, too, but it’s weak graphics and frustrating free-flight boss fights make it tough to enjoy the stroll down memory lane.

Il Drago di Microsoft è colpito: ulula con le ali in fiamme, cade come un detrito infuocato che solca il cielo, si infrange sulla line-up di Xbox One senza lasciar traccia. Purtroppo lo sviluppo a singhiozzi, il cambio improvviso della piattaforma di destinazione e la totale revisione del gameplay non hanno fatto bene a Crimson Dragon. Il titolo apre la Next-Gen di Microsoft con una grafica arretrata ed uno stile bruttino; ma sono soprattutto le magagne a livello di gameplay a far storcere la bocca. La scena è troppo difficile da leggere, il control scheme tutt'altro che funzionale, la telecamera un po' bizzosa. Insomma: vietatissimo considerare il titolo firmato Grounding come l'erede spirituale di quel gran gioco che fu Panzer Dragoon Orta. Mettetevi l'anima in pace e cercate altrove.

Una de las decepciones del catálogo de lanzamiento de Xbox One es la que nos ocupa. Un juego de dragones que sobre el papel parecía fascinante y sugerente, pero que se viene abajo por sus problemas de control y su monótona y soporífera propuesta. Como videojuego independiente es de lo más mediocre y, en relación con Panzer Dragoon, Crimson Dragon es un del todo insuficiente heredero espiritual.

Si Crimson Dragon était sorti sur Xbox 360, il n'aurait même pas été un bon jeu. Sur Xbox One, il devient tout bonnement une catastrophe. Alors que la gestion de nos montures et quelques éléments RPG pouvaient augurer de bonnes choses, le titre des studios Grounding Inc perd sur tous les fronts avec des problèmes de caméra, de lisibilité, de maniabilité et de rythme, sans oublier une réalisation datée et un level design d'une grande platitude. Oubliez de suite le CV de son créateur, Crimson Dragon n'a rien à voir avec ses ancêtres spirituels.

Pour une exclusivité développée depuis presque une éternité, Crimson Dragon ne parvient pas à convaincre. Découpé à la façon d'un jeu pour smartphone et manquant cruellement d'ambition dans ses mécanismes et son univers, le titre de Microsoft Studios n'exploite tout simplement pas la Xbox One et nous fait regretter, sans nostalgie déplacée, le faste des anciens jeux du genre. Ce Panzer Dragoon de poche a cependant pour lui un irrésistible charme rétro qui fera mouche auprès des amoureux de la saga emblématique de Futatsugi et de shoot sur rail à l'ancienne. Une épopée réservée aux fans absolus du genre donc, et à ceux qui veulent collectionner telles des reliques les créations devenues rares de Sieur Yukio.
