Valkyria Revolution might not hit on all cylinders, but there is always a positive aspect to make up for a nagging flaw. Overall, the combat is different and offers many different ways of attack. Coupling the combat and alchemy with an exciting story about war and conspiracy will make you not only want to progress through the game, but actually get into the story and its characters. The artwork behind the graphical engine adds a storybook look to a Japanese anime with characters you'll develop emotions for. More importantly, the game retails for $39.99 and does more than anyone can ask for at that price, even offering cross-saves between the PS4 and PS Vita versions. Valkyria Revolution is an excellent action-RPG if you're looking for something new after playing through Final Fantasy XV.

Nonostante una trama che spesso e volentieri ripesca temi già affrontati nel primo Valkyria Chronicles e qualche imperfezione tecnica dovuta alla natura ibrida del gioco, il nuovo Valkyria Revolution supera a pieni voti il nostro esame, rivelandosi un action RPG di tutto rispetto. Il nuovo combat system LeGION ci è parso frenetico e molto divertente, anche grazie agli ottimi spunti strategici offerti dagli stati alterati e dall’elevato livello di personalizzazione dei personaggi. Tuttavia, qualora il titolo avesse davvero un seguito come auspicato dagli sviluppatori durante una recente intervista, la nostra speranza è che la difficoltà complessiva venga opportunamente ribilanciata. Se, al momento, i boss sono spesso capaci di annientare mezza squadra anche con un colpo solo (soprattutto nella prima metà del gioco), gruppi di nemici anche piuttosto numerosi risultano quasi inermi anche dinanzi alle unità meno preparate, rendendo le missioni troppo semplici e quasi noiose. Ne consigliamo comunque l’acquisto sia ai patiti di action RPG che ai fan storici della saga originale, purché si dimostrino capaci di mettere da parte nostalgia e pregiudizi, come abbiamo fatto noi.

Aunque los combates resulten más dinámicos que en Valkyria Chronicles, su desarrollo repetitivo y un nivel técnico justito (salvo la banda sonora) colocan este spin off muy por debajo de los originales. Además, parece que Valkyria Revolution se alarga de manera artificial con misiones secundarias "sosas".

Valkyria Revolution, a dispetto del nome, è un JRPG piuttosto canonico, che cerca una propria identità all'interno dell'universo di gioco, riuscendoci solo in parte. Il sistema di combattimento si rivela poco incisivo e la sua natura ibrida non valorizza appieno gli spunti interessanti di cui il titolo è comunque costellato. Dotato di una narrazione prolissa, ma non per questo meno profonda e coinvolgente, Valkyria Revolution si distingue per i temi trattati, l'atmosfera generale e lo straordinario sonoro. Peccato che il cuore del gameplay non risulti altrettanto incisivo.

Valkyria Revolution parvient donc à bien mélanger les genres action et tactique et finalement, on finit par ne plus lâcher la manette. Le scénario est vraiment prenant et cette histoire racontée par l’historien et Richelle ne manquera pas de nous surprendre et de nous pousser à aller jusqu’à la toute fin. Le lot de personnages est vraiment sympathique avec un attachement assez immédiat pour notre groupe des cinq traîtres. Malheureusement, les anglophobes ne peuvent pas profiter de l’histoire puisqu’une nouvelle fois, le jeu est uniquement traduit en anglais. On note quand même la présence des voix japonaises et surtout, de l’excellente direction artistique propre à la licence ! Effectivement, si l’on perd le gameplay traditionnel pour laisser place à de l’action/tactique, on conserve quand même l’aspect graphique mais aussi des tonnes de petits éléments un peu partout qui ne manqueront pas de vous rappeler avec nostalgie les anciens Valkyria. Ce Valkyria Revolution vous occupera en tout cas un bon moment avec de magnifiques musiques pour vous accompagner et si jamais cela n’était pas assez, il propose même un lot de DLC gratuits. Il y a bien quelques imperfections notables dans le gameplay et des temps de chargement pour les cinématiques un peu longuets mais pour le reste, la formule a su nous convaincre.

Valkyria Revolution abbandona la strada della serie principale con uno spin-off dalla vena "action" che non riesce a convincere a pieno. Un titolo complessivamente godibile, specie se avete amato le atmosfere dell'originale, ma che presenta alcuni difetti più o meno importanti, come una storia fin troppo diluita, incertezze di gameplay e una realizzazione tecnica buona ma anc'essa limitata per copla di un DNA portatile. Dalla sua però troviamo un prezzo di lancio che lo colloca poco al di sopra della fascia budget, il che lo potrebbe far pendere l'ago della bilancia verso il titolo Sega, il tutto consapevoli di dover chiudere un occhio sui difetti elencati.

Sega no ha hecho un mal trabajo con este Valkyria Revolution. Puede ser motivo de confabulación y especulación la coletilla Revolution. ¿Sé trata de puramente un spin-off? ¿o es este el camino que va a tomar la saga a partir de ahora? Siendo puramente objetivos la opción correcta sería la primera. Que Revolution quede en una entrega ocasional, algo fresco, ajeno y fantasioso sin llegar a hacer saltar por los aires unos cimientos muy bien construidos como son los de la serie troncal. Tanto aquellos que seáis fans de la saga original como aquellos que os adentréis en la franquicia de Sega por primera vez Revolution se deja jugar y se disfruta aun sin llegar, en ningún momento, al nivel de sus hermanos mayores.

Ultimately I’m not sure that fusing action and strategy for the latest Valkyria was a wise move, especially when the latter ultimately feels tacked-on in comparison with the depth found in previous games. Throw in gameplay that feels wholly isolated from Revolution’s original, compelling, but also convoluted and overwrought plot and narrative delivery, and overall pacing and flow end up becoming a weak point despite their success during individual sections. I’ll emphasize again that Revolution is not Valkyria Chronicles 4, nor is it a full $60 title; $39.99 will net you the full experience, and for that price the game is, if nothing else, a very solid value. In my estimation series newbies lacking preconceived expectations will probably have the most fun with Revolution, but it’s hard to imagine fans being thrilled with the game’s at-times confused direction even if they do fully understand its proclaimed spinoff nature.

Valkyria Revolution tells a decent tale of war, but the strength of that story is dulled by overlong, boring, and poorly animated cutscenes. It sacrifices the unique historical setting and art style of the Valkyria Chronicles series proper in favor of generic JRPG elements that fail to leave a strong impression, and its hack-and-slash combat offers little in the way of strategy and ruins its own flow with an poorly matched magic system. Rispetto alla serie principale, Valkyria: Revolution è purtroppo un’occasione sprecata in tutto e per tutto. Partendo dal cast, Amleth e i suoi compagni di squadra ricalcano stereotipi fin troppo visti cadendo presto nel banale, ma la delusione più grande è data dal sistema di combattimento, rimasto orfano del fattore strategico caratteristico dei titoli firmati Valkyria Chronicles, ora rimpiazzato da delle ripetitive battaglie in stile musou gestite da un’intelligenza artificiale pessima.Al contrario, in mezzo a tanta mediocrità, la componente sonora e quella narrativa risultano ottime. L’idea di scoprire la storia attraverso un racconto della professoressa Richelle è originale e ogni situazione è musicalmente resa bene grazie al sapiente lavoro di Yasunori Mitsuda. Tra alti e (tanti) bassi, il lavoro del team di sviluppo Media Vision risulta così poco riuscito e consigliabile solo ai fan sfegatati della serie che sappiano accettare Valkyria: Revolution e i suoi tanti difetti.

Valkyria Revolution est l'exemple même de la "suite" que personne n'attendait et qui n'aurait tout simplement jamais dû exister. La série des Valkyria Chronicles amenait à l'époque un réel vent de fraîcheur dans l'industrie du jeu vidéo, avec sa direction artistique unique et son approche inédite du tactical-RPG, mais malheureusement, avec Revolution, SEGA semble avoir fait un demi-tour complet. Le jeu est fade et sans originalité, lorsqu'il n'est pas juste passable, et il est capable de ruiner des mécaniques de gameplay pourtant appliquées avec maestria par des titres concurrents parus récemment.

Que la faute en incombe à SEGA ou Media.Vision, le mal est fait. La série Valkyria vient d'accoucher d'un triste épisode. Plat, sans personnalité et souffrant d'une mise en scène figée, ce Revolution n'a absolument pas l'ambition de son nom. Tel un Jenga, le jeu accumule les défauts, visuels comme ludiques, et finit par perdre complètement la boussole. Une mascarade qui risque de laisser un goût plus qu'amer dans la bouche des nombreux fans de l'original. Certains joueurs lui pardonneront peut-être ses (innombrables) défauts mais on était en droit d'en attendre beaucoup plus.

Valkyria Revolution est un jeu particulièrement moyen, qui laisse même un goût amer compte tenu du fait qu'il est issu d'une série reconnue. Pire, il scelle peut-être le destin de cette dernière, un an après une version restaurée qui était pourtant réussie. Valkyria Revolution est surtout un projet terriblement bancal qui n'aurait jamais dû voir le jour. En allant plus loin, il est même légitime de se demander pourquoi SEGA ne s'est pas contenté de financer les portages des épisodes PSP, certains n'étant jamais sortis en occident. Un coup pour rien.
