Severed est un titre enchanteur, une rencontre étonnante entre un Metroidvania et un Dungeon-RPG. Derrière son aspect minimaliste se cache un titre d'une générosité rare. De plus, la bande originale du titre renforce notre immersion s'adaptant merveilleusement à chaque situation.Bref, Severed est une exclusivité PS Vita. Severed est imparfait et parle peu, il est touchant, parfois violent et épuisant, mais il est enivrant. Severed ne laisse pas indifférent, Severed est excitant, Severed est excellent. La Vita a trouvé son maître, rien n'y sera jamais aussi bon que Severed.

Despite the fact that the PlayStation Vita’s low install base could potentially hinder Severed‘s success, DrinkBox’s gamble on Sony’s struggling handheld will likely pay off. First and foremost, the Vita’s current user base has established that it will purchase everything that it can from the Vita’s digital storefront, so the idea that a hefty portion of the audience will dive in on day one is certainly not outrageous. Second, when you consider that arguably the best exclusive to date is arriving at a time where the handheld is desperately seeking quality hardware, it makes sense that anyone looking to play something on their Vita will flock to Severed. After all, it’s a marvelous dungeon-crawler whose touch-based combat never shies away from being responsive and intuitive, which allows players to gain more and more confidence in their abilities as the campaign progresses. Of course, a brilliant combat system is just one of the factors that makes Severed a can’t-miss game for Vita owners, as DrinkBox’s patented art-style and focus on smart level-design are nothing to shake one’s head at. If Severed does turn out to be the Vita’s swan song, Sony can hang its hat knowing that the Vita’s last hurrah was a grade-A banger from a premier independent developer.

It’s entirely different compared to anything DrinkBox has done before, but Severed is an experience that anyone with a PlayStation Vita needs to check out. The touch-based gameplay works extremely well and is a ton of fun, and the game’s world is so twisted that it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. DrinkBox has succeeded in not only making a fantastic game, but also in making the PlayStation Vita relevant again in a time where most have left it for dead. Severed is the call to all gamers to dig out their dusty Vitas once more, as the neglected handheld has quietly acquired one of the must-have games of 2016.

Sia per meriti propri che per mancanza di titoli (almeno qui in Europa), Severed si impone come uno dei migliori titoli disponibili per PS Vita. Abbiamo trovato tremendamente azzeccata l'unione di più generi, il sapiente utilizzo del touch screen della portatile Sony ed il delizioso stile grafico ispirato al folklore messicano. Nonostante la ripetitività delle meccaniche e la difficoltà non sempre bilanciata a dovere, il titolo firmato Drinkbox Studios è riuscito a convincerci appieno, meritandosi quindi il voto che trovate qui sulla destra. Un gioco su cui non avremmo puntato un centesimo ma che merita effettivamente di essere almeno provato.

DrinkBox Studios colpisce nuovamente nel segno, coniugando l'immediatezza di un'idea nata in campo mobile con tutta la complessità e profondità di un titolo per “hardcore gamer”. Severed è un dungeon crawler riuscitissimo, che sfrutta con grande maestria le peculiarità di una console che sembrava non avere più nulla da dire: il risultato rapisce grazie a battaglie sempre vivaci e ritmate, alternate con parsimonia ad enigmi ambientali mai troppo complessi, eppure sempre stimolanti. La magia delle prime ore di gioco sembra dissiparsi leggermente nelle fasi finali, meno equilibrate e bilanciate nel ritmo, per un ending che forse arriva un po' troppo presto. In ogni caso, il viaggio di Sasha merita di essere vissuto sino in fondo, anche solo per respirare l'atmosfera di un mondo sadico, macabro e malato, racchiuso in una produzione indipendente di assoluto valore.

Severed è un titolo originale e affascinante, strutturalmente molto semplice ma in grado di coinvolgere grazie a un sistema di controllo immediato e reattivo, nonché a duelli tutt'altro che banali. Lo stile di DrinkBox è gradevolissimo, sia sul fronte estetico che narrativo, e in questo caso gli sviluppatori hanno saputo dipingere delle creature davvero inquietanti e un ambiente ostile in cui la tensione aumenta di pari passo con la forza e il numero degli avversari. Nonostante una parte finale fin troppo difficile, la nuova avventura degli autori di Guacamelee! si pone di certo come uno dei migliori giochi disponibili per PlayStation Vita.

Severed è un bellissimo omaggio ai vecchi dungeon crawler in soggettiva, con l’aggiunta di un sistema di combattimento interamente basato sul touch screen di PS Vita. Il gusto per l’esplorazione, con il classico movimento di casella in casella sottolineato da una mappa molto in stile metroidvania, è ottimo e il combattimento interessante e ben articolato. Intrigante anche il sistema di upgrade del personaggio, ottimo il level design e molto ispirata anche la direzione artistica. È utilizzabile tranquillamente per brevi sessioni, come ci si aspetta da un gioco per console portatili, ma difficilmente lo farete, perché può diventare una vera droga. Peccato solo per la difficoltà, a volte veramente eccessiva, che può essere un difetto per tutti quelli che cercano un’esperienza rilassata, o quantomeno più equilibrata.

Ja. Zwei Jahre ist das schon her, dass man Severed als exklusiven PS Vita-Titel auf der E3 angekündigt hatte. Damals wurde seitens Sony noch Töne gespuckt, dass man das Gerät nicht am Hungerhaken sterben lassen will – was aber in punkto Exklusivspiele fast so erscheint. Umso mehr habe ich mich auf diesen Start gefreut: Die Kampfmechanik, die per Wischbewegungen über den Touchscreen den Spieler erfrischend unter Druck setzt, zaubert mir ein längst vergessenes Lächeln auf mein Gesicht, dass ich zuletzt bei Gravity Rush verspürte. Die Guacamelee-Macher stülpen mit dem vertrackten und verschachtelten Dungeons noch ihr altbewährtes Konzept drüber, wobei sich neue Areale nur über Zusatzfähigkeiten erschließen und würzen das Ganze mit einem schlüssigen Artstil und passend skurrilem Soundtrack und fertig ist der Gold-Award. Man hat mich in der Redaktion immer wieder fluchend erlebt, weil die Spannung grandios ist, wenn die Lebensanzeige blinkt und man sich von Gegner zu Gegner hangelt, nur um doch den Kürzeren zu ziehen. Aber man hat mich die Vita nie ablegen sehen. Das liegt auch an den variierenden Gegnern, die exzellent herausgearbeitet wurden. Einzig der Umstand, dass man noch mehr Dinge hätte finden können, dass viele Fähigkeiten kaum einen Nutzen haben und dass die Bosskämpfe (bis auf den letzten) etwas kurz sind, drücken die Wertung etwas runter. Dennoch hat sich Severed den Gold-Award redlich verdient.

Severed es la visión de cómo deberían ponerse al día los "dungeon crawler" clásicos, y el resultado no podía ser mejor. Una aventura "metroidvania" adictiva, divertida, para todo tipo de jugadores y con un sistema de combate táctil muy divertido.

Severed es un Dungeon crawler con toques de acción muy ligero, pero adictivo. Su propuesta artística resulta excelente, pero lo mejor de esta producción es lo entretenido que resulta combatir y descubrir los secretos que se esconden en el mundo que se ha creado para la ocasión. Puede que no se trate de la aventura más ambiciosa, ni tampoco de la más larga, pero al precio que llega, unos 15€, sí que se trata de uno de los exclusivos occidentales de PlayStation Vita más interesante.

Severed is at its best when it features short, tactical fights in its eerily beautiful dungeons, but those battles largely lose their appeal by the second half. Combat becomes tedious due to boring buffs instead of introducing new ideas in order to make battles more challenging. That blow to the combat’s longevity wouldn’t have felt so bad if exploring the bizarre world weren’t so tedious.
