There’s an awful lot that could have gone wrong with Battlefield 1. An incendiary FPS that allows you to climb onboard tanks, trucks, planes, trains, zeppelins and more, and doesn’t end up as a total mess? That’s a tough ask. From almost the first moment you step into DICE’s latest creation, there’s the overwhelming sense you’re in safe hands. This game is respectful of its setting without ever forgetting it’s supposed to be entertaining. And although its War Stories best pull off this high-wire act, Operations are a great way of bringing the same empathy and tension to a multiplayer mode. In the battle for ‘Christmas console essential’, this shooter will take some beating.

With a revamped, emotionally charged campaign, the single-player experience is, without a doubt, the franchise’s best. The multiplayer combines solid classics and unbeatable mechanics with new modes that fit the WWI setting brilliantly. Could this be the Battlefield to end all Battlefields? It just might.

DICE ha aprendido de sus fallos anteriores y ha escuchado a la comunidad de jugadores, nos trae un multijugador pulido y mejorado, que premia aún más el trabajo en equipo. Los modos de juego junto con la variedad de clases, vehículos y objetos desbloqueables que nos ofrecen hacen que los 9 mapas de salida del juego sean más que suficientes para darnos una experiencia multijugador intensa, atractiva y de larga duración. El modo Operaciones además de ser una gran novedad trae a un multijugador de un juego de disparos en primera persona algo que no habíamos visto hasta ahora: el ligar los objetivos de la partida a una intensa y sangrienta historia bélica, la cual fue terriblemente real hace ahora 100 años. La guinda es la campaña, que consigue alcanzar cotas de intensidad y variedad inusuales para la serie de DICE, consiguiendo redondear un producto tan interesante como completo.

Battlefield 1 es más conservador con las anteriores entregas de lo que cabría esperar pese a su ambientación en la 1ª Guerra Mundial. La campaña se queda muy corta, poco más de 4 horas, pero el multijugador y el apartado técnico son incontestables.

Battlefield 1 does an amazing job of transplanting the fantastic chemistry of the series’ traditional multiplayer action into the weaponry and vehicles of World War I. The era brings with it not only a visually striking backdrop for classic game modes like Conquest and the compelling new Operations, but a distinct personality that touches everything from its rich lineup of archaic and distinctively designed weapons to the somber anthology of character-driven stories in its brief but surprisingly poignant single-player scenarios. While maps are not its strong point, Battlefield 1’s dynamically destructible environments and the minutely balanced mechanics of its classes and gadgets keep the moment-to-moment first-person shooting varied and engaging.

Battlefield 1 is a true successor of the Battlefield series and one of the best games of the year. Bringing the experience of a hundred year old war is not an easy task, but DICE made it work. However, the game is not perfect and will not receive the highest possible score due to some bad enemy AI and less than stellar design on some of the maps. On the other hand, Battlefield 1 has given us all an opportunity to dive into one of the most brutal wars in the history of humanity — and this is something you don’t try every day. If you want to get a gritty, fantastic look at the first World War, then you can pick up Battlefield 1 for $59.99 at most major retailers.

Fazit In Battlefield 1 liefert DICE seine beste Kampagne ab! Das ist angesichts der bisherigen Enttäuschungen in diesem Bereich aber noch keine große Kunst. Mit der zähen Panzer-Story, grenzdebiler Moorhuhn-KI oder der unpassenden Reparaturmechanik gibt es immer noch Dinge, die mich auch hier stören. Manchmal hat man außerdem zu sehr das Gefühl, in einem XXL-Tutorial für den Mehrspielermodus gelandet zu sein, wenn man nach klassischer Conquest-Manier Stellungen einnehmen muss oder nach und nach an die Bedienung der Vehikel herangeführt wird. Auf der anderen Seite macht das Team aus Schweden bei seinen Kriegsgeschichten viel richtig: Die Aufteilung in unabhängige Episoden hat sich bewährt und bringt hinsichtlich Spielablauf, Schauplätzen und Charakteren viel Abwechslung sowie unterschiedliche Einblicke mit sich. Schön, dass neben der bombastischen Inszenierung und intensiven Action mit teils brutalen Aktionen auch nachdenkliche Töne einen Platz bekommen und dabei weder aufdringlich noch heuchlerisch wirken.

La saga Battlefield mantiene su supremacía como uno de los mejores multijugadores con otra demostración de fuerza donde de veras importa, en el campo de batalla. Con una campaña a la altura del on-line y más novedades hablaríamos de un lanzamiento absolutamente redondo, pero con la brillantez de sus batallas para hasta 64 jugadores, la riqueza de los modos, la apuesta por una época tan poco cultivada y la épica que transmiten sus escaramuzas a través de internet, el resultado es de sobresaliente. Battlefield 1 es un título que no te puedes perder… especialmente si sientes nostalgia hacia los clásicos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

Il salto all'indietro di cento anni ha dato i suoi frutti. Battlefield 1 è molto probabilmente il miglior prodotto DICE della sua storia più recente, con un multiplayer che esplode letteralmente grazie alla sua ambientazione, dove classi, armi e distruzione esaltano il gioco di squadra nel rispetto dei ruoli. Le mappe sono il fiore all'occhiello della produzione, al pari di una componente tecnica stellare. Note negative? Permangono a volte problematiche di hitbox e time to kill, mentre la breve campagna è un bel passo avanti rispetto a quella fallimentare del quarto capitolo, divertente, senza passi falsi e dalla vocazione "stealth", ma non è certamente qualcosa di indimenticabile. Se poi ci mettiamo anche problemi di intelligenza artificiale, arriviamo ad un quadro buono per la parte single player, ma non eccellente.

Battlefield 1 è uno sparatutto monumentale. Archiviato un comparto Single Player divertente, vario e spettacolare ma davvero molto condensato, il piatto forte della produzione è ovviamente rappresentato dall'online. Le sue battaglie su vasta scala, gli assalti condotti da decine di giocatori che si muovono tra il fango e le schegge dei proiettili di mortaio, rappresentano un'esperienza che tutti gli appassionati di sparatutto multigiocatore dovrebbero provare. Quello che colpisce è la dimensione letteralmente titanica del conflitto, la coralità degli scontri. L'emozione degli assalti coordinati, tra le cariche di fanteria e le smitragliate dei biplani, rende Battlefield 1 galvanizzante come pochi altri sparatutto usciti in questa e nella precedente generazione. Meraviglioso da vedere sia su PC che su Console, il gioco rappresenta la definitiva consacrazione del Frostbite 3 come uno dei migliori motori grafici del mondo videoludico. Il vero punto di forza del prodotto, in ogni caso, va oltre le conquiste tecniche. È, infatti, la sua capacità di distanziarsi da tutte le altre proposte del mercato: Battlefield 1 non è affatto, come molti supponevano, un “reskin” di Star Wars Battlefront, ed è anzi lontano anni luce da quell'incedere così immediato e leggero. Pur rimanendo anzitutto accessibile, il titolo rifiuta la lezione di Call of Duty, le scellerate scelte di design di Hardline, persino la “levolution” spettacolare ma troppo pilotata di Battlefield 3. L'obiettivo -centrato in pieno- è quello di tornare a fare ciò che ha reso grande la saga: replicare le emozioni e l'adrenalina di un conflitto su larga scala; la travolgente epicità di una guerra globale.

Criant de réalisme et affreusement immersif, Battlefield 1 réussi son pari de se relancer dans le contexte de la Première Guerre Mondiale – une aubaine soit dit en passant pour Electronic Arts puisque son adversaire direct, Call of Duty, opte cette année pour un univers un tantinet trop futuriste. En prenant les excellentes bases des précédents opus, cette nouvelle itération de la franchise profite de ses évolutions techniques pour nous plonger dans la Grande Guerre avec une campagne, certes, encore trop courte, mais terriblement bien ficelée où les différents récits de guerre nous plongent dans différents points de vue. Du côté du multijoueur, la recette reste inchangée mais simplement saupoudrée de quelques nouveautés rafraîchissantes, comme le nouveau mode Opérations qui promet de longues heures d’affrontement et de combats intensifs. L’ambiance de la Grande Guerre est bien retranscrite, soutenue par une bande-son au poil et une direction artistique de haute volée. Battlefield 1 peut se targuer d’être le meilleur épisode de la licence et sera très certainement, le meilleur FPS de cette fin d’année.

Battlefield 1 è uno sparatutto dalla doppia faccia. Se infatti la componente in singolo pecca in longevità, narrazione e IA nemica, il mutiplayer è tutta un’altra storia. Classi nuove, due modalità inedite (di cui una strepitosa), mappe dal design sopraffino, mezzi a volontà e tanti graditi ritorni nella formula del gameplay competitivo. Manca forse qualche elemento unico e innovativo che faccia davvero respirare il diverso tipo di approccio bellico tipico della Prima Guerra Mondiale, ma per il resto Battlefield 1 è quella perfetta macchina da battaglie online che era logico aspettarsi e anche sul versante tecnico l’eccellenza è assicurata.

Battlefield 1 est une claque de réalisation et de plaisir, parfois limitée par un contenu que l'on aurait aimé plus dense et plus fourni concernant la version de base. Son multi est assez riche pour tenir le joueur sur le long terme et son solo repensé s'avère intelligent et bien fichu, loin des classiques campagnes de héros survitaminés. On aurait toutefois aimé en voir plus à travers des War Stories plus nombreuses et plus longues. Pour son grand retour sur sa licence-clé, D.I.C.E. signe ici un excellent épisode de la saga Battlefield.

DICE’s decision to look to the past for Battlefield 1 has changed the game for the better in all its forms, from the moment-to-moment struggles in multiplayer engagements and lengthy 64-player battles, to its single-player campaign. In taking on an era of warfare less technologically advanced than where the series has previously been focused, DICE has been able to work in vehicles and weapons that do a phenomenal job of capturing close, brutal engagements, even in its biggest maps and modes. Overall, the game is impressive. The voice acting is remarkable; the campaign tells a story that matters; the multiplayer makes you want to come back for more. Despite its few flaws, Battlefield 1 manages to capture the magnitude of destruction. The story is great, the world is great, and this is all while the gaming world had high expectations of what their World War I would be.
