Seid ihr noch da? Verdammt, ich habe mir einen Wolf geschrieben. Aber The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hat mein Notizbuch genauso gesprengt wie meine Skepsis. CD Project RED gelingt der krönende Abschluss einer epischen Saga. Dieses Rollenspiel erreicht in offener Welt eine ungeheure atmosphärische Dichte, weil es nicht nur das Spektakuläre und Kämpferische inszeniert, sondern auch die leisen Töne trifft und das aufmerksame Erkunden belohnt. Es besticht durch enorm hohe Questqualität sowie erzählerische Klasse inklusive direkter sowie erst später wirksamer Konsequenzen, die einen immer wieder überraschen oder entsetzen. Ja, es gibt Kontrapunkte: Dass es auf Diebstahl in den Häusern der Leute keinerlei Reaktion gibt, ist für mich sogar noch ärgerlicher als die dämliche Statik menschlicher Feinde bei Beschuss. Das Menüdesign ist fade, die Schrift zu klein, die Dialoge nicht besonders verschachtelt, das Inventar schnell überfüllt und es gibt kleine technische Macken. Aber da ist die ausgezeichnete deutsche Sprachausgabe, das klasse Drehbuch, dem eben nicht wie in The Witcher 2 gegen Ende die Luft ausgeht. Es gelingt den Polen nicht nur sehr gut, eine mittelalterliche Fantasywelt zu zeigen, die von militärischen und sozialen Konflikten geprägt ist und voller moralischer Widersprüche steckt. Hinzu kommt diese fast schon verblüffende Hingabe in der Inszenierung dörflicher Milieus sowie der großen Stadt Novigrad. Es macht einfach Spaß, nur ganz langsam durch diese Welt zu spazieren. Wenn man davon genug hat, stürzt man sich in die nächste dramatische Quest, in der man über das Schicksal tragischer Gestalten entscheidet, oder man jagt in Traumkulisse mythische Ungetüme. Und das nicht über zehn, sondern hundert Stunden. Hut ab und Applaus!

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt non è un gioco dedicato ai puristi e agli estimatori del gameplay, dato che nel combat system e nelle modalità di esplorazione della mappa si rintraccia ancora quella vena ruvida e poco rifinita che da sempre ha contraddistinto la saga, che purtroppo non è stata fatta oggetto di miglioramenti sensibili, senza contare l'intelligenza artificiale nemica carente. Nonostante le possibilità di crescita del personaggio, l'ampio inventario di armi, armature e accessori, e il crafting, i combattimenti peccano in profondità, e lo stesso può dirsi della struttura delle quest, che finisce per riutilizzare i medesimi elementi, seppure validi quando presi singolarmente. L'esperienza complessiva non riesce dunque a superare se stessa in termini di giocabilità, adattandosi bene alla formula free roaming ma senza garantire una profondità in grado di reggere per tutte le moltissime ore di gioco offerte. Più di ogni altra cosa, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt è un'opera straordinaria dal punto di vista narrativo. Mai nessuno in un gioco a libera esplorazione aveva osato andare tanto a fondo con la scrittura di un cast di personaggi così ricco e "vissuto", né con la qualità dei dialoghi, facendo addirittura dubitare che questo fosse possibile nell'ambito di un'esperienza non lineare. Eppure, nel modo in cui la mastodondica quest principale e le attività secondarie si intrecciano, integrando anche le decisioni del giocatore, si nota il tocco di una mano veramente espertissima, sorprendente se si considera che si tratta del primo free roaming sviluppato da CD Projekt. A questo, va affiancato il lavoro sinceramente straordinario svolto sull'ambientazione, la cui progressiva scoperta è in grado già da sola di trascinare il giocatore interessato ad approfondire la ricchissima caratterizzazione del mondo immaginario creato da Sapkowski. The Witcher 3 si regge soprattutto su una solidissima ossatura narrativa e su un'ambientazione unica, che meritano di essere vissute in tutte le loro innumerevoli sfaccettature da ogni appassionato di GDR dotati di una solida trama.

Combat has been redesigned in order to combine traditional RPG elements with the speed and precision of a dedicated fighting game. All of these gameplay features are integrated into a robust RPG system at the heart of the game.
