With One Piece: World Seeker it feels like we are finally getting higher quality licensed anime games, but it still has a way to go to be truly incredible or essential, even for fans of the series. Still, if you want to run and rocket with Luffy and the crew, this is a great place to do so.

Although it's filled with annoying moments World Seeker is more fun than frustration. There are some rookie issues with it but the exploration still absolutely makes the game what it is.

Despite all that One Piece World Seeker can’t do, it’s still a solid B game. The main problem feels like too much ambition in design, with a million good ideas brought short because they can’t be fully realized with only a couple that get to shine in full. When the world is open and adventure waiting in every direction, it’s a lot of fun to wander the map, chasing down chests and grabbing all the side-quests you can find. Sure, the quest may boil down to “Go here, fight some guys, find a thing, come back,” but each one also adds a bit of lore to the world, filling in background details and making Jail Island feel more alive than the small handful of people wandering the streets of its towns could manage by themselves. Combat may be repetitive, but it’s not actually bad, and every now and then a difficulty spike pops up to make you think about Luffy’s skills instead of merely button-mashing through each encounter. Once I wrapped my head around what the game is and accepted its shortcomings I had a good time putting Luffy through his paces in a story that just keeps getting bigger as the game progresses, rocketing around the island and not resting until every secret was found and plotline completed. One Piece World Seeker may not be the game it wishes it was, but the thing it actually became is a perfect example of how much fun a mid-tier game can be if you approach it from a forgiving perspective.

Hemos de decir que One Piece World Seeker es, dentro de un título basado en un anime, un videojuego realmente divertido, con mucha dosis de fan service y que resulta realmente divertido jugarlo y que tampoco cuesta mucho completar. Con un apartado técnico aceptable, aunque con algunos que otros problemas técnicos, es uno de esos títulos que si eres fan de la saga de Eiichiro Oda no puedes pasarlo por alto. No obstante, dentro del género del mundo abierto, el título de Bandai Namco quizá es uno de los más escuetos no sólo en duración sino también en el diseño de sus misiones.

One Piece: World Seeker è un timido passo verso la vera avventura che l'opera di Eichiro Oda meriterebbe. I fan sfegatati dell'opera originale possono trovare pane per i loro denti, con un gioco che li può trasportare in una nuova avventura che non ha nulla da invidiare agli episodi e ai film a cui siamo abituati. Ma il comparto narrativo è cucito sopra un gameplay un po' troppo ripetitivo, con poca varietà e una formula di gioco un po' stantia. Dopo qualche ora di divertimento sopraggiunge un po' di noia, a cui si può soprassedere solo se si ama davvero il nome importante che il gioco porta.

One Piece : World Seeker aurait pu être un excellent jeu si Ganbarion avait rimé avec «grandes ambitions». Malheureusement, en l'état, le titre des japonais n'arrive que rarement à procurer davantage qu'un sentiment de joie à la vue du casting proposé s'étiolant rapidement à mesure que le temps passe. N'arrivant pas à pleinement nous impliquer à cause d'un scénario lambda et de quêtes peu inspirantes, le jeu peine à convaincre autant dans son histoire que son gameplay, accessible, fun mais finalement limité. Reste tout de même un monde agréable à l'oeil, une bonne sensation de puissance et quelques combats de boss plutôt cool.

One Piece: World Seeker fa fatica ad eccellere in ogni suo aspetto, risultando così un prodotto da compitino a casa per il team di sviluppo. Ciò non vuol dire che il titolo sia pessimo in tutto, anzi, lo studio Ganbarion ha proposto una trama dall'incipit promettente che sprofonda in banali cliché. Il gameplay regala qualche sprazzo di gioia ma per via di un'intelligenza artificiale davvero scarsa difficilmente bisognerà ricorrere alle maniere forti; da annoverare invece il character design realizzato con rispetto per l'opera originale e le ambientazioni che, di tanto in tanto, riescono a regalare ottimi scenari artistici.

One Piece: World Seeker è il classico tie-in un po' deludente, ma questa volta è cambiato qualcosa perché Ganbarion quantomeno ha azzardato un esperimento pieno di potenziale. Il gioco ha un sacco di difetti sui quali i fan soprassiederanno facilmente, divertendosi per qualche ora in compagnia dei loro beniamini, tuttavia c'è una base solida su cui si può costruire e, finalmente, allontanarsi un po' dai soliti musou e picchiaduro che impestano il mercato ogni anno. Lavorandoci su, un eventuale sequel potrebbe essere addirittura memorabile.

One Piece: World Seeker could have been so much more that it is. While many of its elements were executed rather well and are still very enjoyable, many others feel uninspired and generic. Hopefully, Bandai Namco and Ganbarion learn from this first attempt at an open-world One Piece game and are able to improve on it in the future, as World Seeker has made it clear that One Piece would work very well as a large-scale open-world game.

Guardando il progetto nel suo insieme, viene da pensare che ONE PIECE: World Seeker avrebbe necessitato di una gestazione più attenta prima di approdare sui nostri scaffali. Il nuovo gioco di Ganbarion cerca di omaggiare, stilisticamente e narrativamente, tutto il meglio che Eiichiro Oda ha partorito dalla sua mente nel corso dell'ultimo ventennio. E se la storyline principale mette in scena un racconto non eccezionale ma all'insegna del fanservice, è soprattutto sul piano tecnico che World Seeker si dimostra una creatura fragile e imperfetta. Una serie di disattenzioni elementari nel game design fanno eco a un open world scialbo e decisamente poco dinamico. D'altro canto, la commistione tra RPG, action game e stealth crea un ibrido confusionario in cui ciascuna di queste meccaniche non viene approfondita a sufficienza. La nuova proposta di Bandai Namco è un'operazione pensata per fan veraci di ONE PIECE e promette perlomeno un'avventura inedita in un'ambientazione che, sul versante visivo, regala panorami mozzafiato.

Original stories for longtime running manga and anime series have become the popular option in recent years in games such as Dragon Ball FighterZ, and One Piece: World Seeker does just that with a captivating new story for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Even as fun as it can be zipping around the island with Luffy’s outstretched arms, the numerous issues start to bubble up very quickly though and they make One Piece: World Seeker start to feel very monotonous and lackluster way too early into the game.

Au premier abord, World Seeker a tout du jeu à licence réussi, mais ses nombreux défauts ne tardent pas à apparaître après que vous ayez saisi la manette. Combats répétitifs, déplacements lourds et missions incroyablement mal-pensées entravent ce qui aurait autrement pu constituer une aventure One Piece tout à fait décente. Quite simply, One Piece deserves better.

Si l’on devait résumer One Piece World Seeker en un mot, cela serait « Honteux ». Bandai Namco livre ici un titre qui ne respecte pas le joueur. World Seeker a au moins le mérite de sortir en état fonctionnel ce qui commence à devenir rare de nos jours mais c’est à peu près sa seule qualité. Monde ouvert médiocre, contenu inexistant et gameplay à la traîne, rien ne fait honneur au manga d’origine. Notez au passage que cette critique ne prend même pas en compte le fait que seul Luffy soit jouable dans les points négatifs. En revanche, il y a tout de même un manque d’amour assez surprenant vu les gens impliqués. Comme si le genre de jeu avait pris le pas sur l’adaptation. Résultat, personne ne devrait y trouver son compte. On espère que ce désastre servira au moins à montrer la voie à ne pas suivre pour Dragon Ball Game: Project Z…
