13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim è un gioco meraviglioso da vedere, intrigante da scoprire e divertente da giocare quando si tratta di scendere in battaglia. Dopo anni di silenzio, Vanillaware torna con un centro quasi perfetto, sporcato solo da un'occasionale mancanza di chiarezza su come far procedere la storia e una ripetitività che, per quanto stimolanti possano essere, alla lunga si fa sentire durante i combattimenti. Per il resto siamo di fronte a una trama sapientemente costruita, complessa ma non incomprensibile, che si prende i suoi tempi per svelarsi senza perciò nascondere i dettagli utili alla sua comprensione - anzi, spesso divertendosi a metterli in bella vista. Lo stesso stile minimalista degli scontri sul campo si integra perfettamente nella struttura, lasciando all'avventura il compito di immergerci nella bellezza delle sue ambientazioni e nella profondità della storia, per la quale un plauso agli interpreti è d'obbligo. La narrazione è la parte predominante nelle trenta ore necessarie a completare il gioco ma gli appassionati della strategia troveranno soddisfazione anche nelle numerose battaglie che si accompagnano alla storia. Se siete appassionati delle opere di Vanillaware, inutile dirvi di non lasciarvi sfuggire 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ma anche se non avete mai sentito nominare prima lo studio e cercate una storia sci-fi raccontata come si deve, lasciatevi catturare dall'estro di Kamitani.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a very unique experience, even in the realm of video games. It’s gameplay systems gel well together and the non-linear storytelling could only work in this medium. While some plot points aren’t as well explored as others and it uncomfortably sexualizes high school students, it’s still a game you absolutely need to play if you’re a fan of science fiction or enjoy video game storytelling.

All in all, the game is quite mind-blowing for me. It’s something I’m including in my list of games I’d like a memory wipe on so I can play them again for the first time. It’s just that good. The feels are bombastic. The overall plot is great, and the ending is even greater! What makes me dock off a point in the overall score is perhaps the post-game content. It’s disappointing when the game has banked hard on the plot that after finishing it, you just feel forlorn and empty because you want more and there’s nothing there anymore. And I do want more (*cries*). The game definitely pushes you to complete everything in one playthrough because it’s vital to the plot so I am a little letdown that I won’t be seeing much more canon content post-game. But hey, it’s an excuse to create fan content for this! Like Thanos said, I’ll do it myself! Though, I gotta say, playing it for the second time after knowing the whole revelations of the story definitely makes all the character routes sensible and less confusing this time around. We recommend you play 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. It’s seriously a must-play.

13 Sentinels Aegis Rim è un'opera maestosa, tanto nel suo ambizioso e mai scontato intreccio quanto nella potenza visiva del suo inimitabile character design, e non potrà lasciare indifferenti tante categorie di videogiocatori, dagli amanti dei mech a quelli delle visual novel, passando per gli appassionati di fantascienza in senso più ampio. Nonostante non manchino piccole imperfezioni, come la scarsa leggibilità dell'azione durante le fasi strategiche e la congenita ripetitività di alcune delle fasi da visual novel, l'ultima fatica Vanillaware rimane una pietra angolare del genere di riferimento, che prova a svecchiare ed arricchire come pochi altri esponenti hanno saputo fare nel recente passato. Adesso che abbiamo scoperto le doti di Kamitani-sensei anche come sceneggiatore, dopo averne apprezzato per anni quelle da disegnatore, non vediamo l'ora di mettere la mani sul prossimo prodotto che il suo team partorirà.

Avec ce 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim maintes fois repoussé, Vanillare a pris le temps de construire un RPG tactique différent, voire unique par ses qualités narratives et son gameplay. L'histoire a des ramifications impressionnantes, le lore est fascinant, le système de progression est original et vient là encore nous surprendre. Le charme visuel opère en mode aventure, moins en combat, mais ceux-ci restent néanmoins riches stratégiquement et défoulants grâce à une architecture de jeu efficace.
