Sonic X Shadow Generations takes an already excellent game and spring jumps it to new heights at a blistering pace by doubling up the campaign length with creative level design, fantastic bosses, plenty of collectibles, and an appreciable graphical upgrade. While the brand-new Shadow content isn't necessarily long on its own, it adds a nice change of pace to the collection of all-time great Sonic stages Generations already contained, and there’s an exciting new story that’s filled in as you explore the overworld for collectibles, activities, and challenges. This bulked-up remaster soars far and above previous enhanced versions we've gotten in the Sonic franchise, and hopefully will be the gold standard Sega holds itself to when it decides to bring back other Sonic games from the past.

La notable aventura plataformera Sonic Generations que nos hizo disfrutar mucho hace ya casi quince años (casi nada), regresa en forma de remasterización a la que se ha añadido una nueva campaña independiente completamente inédita protagonizada por Shadow. Por lo tanto, estamos ante dos juegos diferentes e independientes cuyas narrativas se entrelazan, siendo un pack irresistible para todos los seguidores de esta gran saga de Sega. Puede pecar de resultar algo corta si no se quiere exprimir al máximo cada una de estas campañas, pero se trata de una producción muy disfrutable y apta para un amplio número de usuarios.

Una corsa a tratti eccezionale, che mette in mostra tutto il potenziale, ad oggi ancora incertamente esplorato, della serie nella sua incarnazione tridimensionale. Due titoli al costo di uno (anzi meno, visto il prezzo budget) per uno dei migliori platform degli ultimi anni. Irrinunciabile. En proposant cette formule de deux jeux en un, SEGA offre une belle locomotive au troisième film qui sortira en décembre prochain. Fidèle à lui-même, l’excellent Sonic Generations n’a rien perdu de sa superbe, même si les nouveautés sont trop légères pour être suffisamment marquantes dans les esprits. Quels Chao à retrouver dans les niveaux, de rares bonus inédits… on pouvait en attendre beaucoup plus d’un remaster. Heureusement, la partie dédiée à Shadow se veut plus ambitieuse, avec un mini monde ouvert à parcourir et des pouvoirs qui dynamisent l’expérience pour plusieurs heures de jeu supplémentaires. Sans être révolutionnaire, Sonic x Shadow Generations est un très bon jeu, mais qui aura, forcément, plus d’impact auprès de celles et ceux qui n’ont jamais touché à l’original.

Sonic x Shadow Generations est une véritable lettre d’amour à la franchise, en modernisant un classique tout en y intégrant habilement Shadow. La dualité entre les gameplay 2D et 3D rend chaque niveau dynamique et plaisant, et l’histoire de Shadow apporte un vent de fraîcheur. Les fans de longue date y trouveront leur compte, même si la répétitivité des défis et quelques imprécisions dans le gameplay peuvent frustrer. Malgré cela, le jeu reste une expérience incontournable pour tous les amateurs de Sonic, avec une direction artistique et technique soignée.

Sonic X Shadow Generations riprende il titolo del 2011, lo potenzia dal punto di vista sia grafico che tecnico (è una remaster) e lo arricchisce di una serie notevole di contenuti, sia nell'avventura principale (con i Chao, i collezionabili e altre chicche) che nell'espansione a sé stante dedicata a Shadow the Hedgehog. Più che un unico gioco più grande del previsto, ci si ritrova con due giochi proposti a un unico prezzo. Meritano un'annotazione positiva, al tempo stesso, le migliorie apportate all'avventura base di Sonic e poi la mole di contenuti relativa alla vicenda di Shadow, con il tentativo di dotare quest'ultimo di un suo gameplay specifico, fortemente differenziato rispetto a quello della controparte blu. Sonic X Shadow Generations, nel suo complesso, è più di una remaster ma meno di un nuovo capitolo. E forse questo è il periodo storico per cominciare a sognare o una riedizione di quel Shadow the Hedgehog del 2005 o un capitolo completamente nuovo dedicato all'alleato-rivale di Sonic.

Sonic x Shadow Generations si conferma come una delle più riuscite incarnazioni dell'IP e si appresta ad approdare sul mercato nella sua edizione definitiva. La porzione dedicata al riccio blu risulta ancora oggi piuttosto godibile, ma è lo spin-off di Shadow a giocare la parte del leone: l'oscuro antieroe di casa SEGA si presenta all'appuntamento con gli appassionati in forma smagliante. Se non avete mai avuto modo di vivere l'avventura originale o se siete curiosi di scoprire in che direzione si muoverà l'inedito racconto di Shadow, possiamo consigliarvi di far vostro il titolo senza particolari indugi.

Hay dos mitades en Sonic X Shadow Generations, y aunque las dos intentan lo mismo, el resultado es muy bueno a nivel de juego, pero dispar a la hora de representar la historia de los dos personajes. La mitad de Sonic sigue siendo tan buena como hace 13 años, y sigue siendo todo un ejemplo en cómo honrar el legado de una franquicia tan emblemática como esta. Una joya que más usuarios pueden volver a disfrutar con esta remasterización, con un par de añadidos buenos, pese a algunas modificaciones bastante absurdas. Luego tenemos Shadow Generations, la gran novedad, y que a modo de pequeña expansión para acompañar el re-lanzamiento, es excelente. Son algunas de las mejores fases que se han diseñado con el «Estilo Boost» en mente, y el mundo abierto a lo Sonic Frontiers es una delicia. Es una pena que la parte de representar el legado del personaje se haya quedado a medias. Parece ser la norma general de la franquicia en sus últimos lanzamientos. Buenas ideas, muy divertidas a los mandos, pero que les falta ese puntito extra para ser excelentes o terminar de estar pulidas al 100%. No sé si es por el ritmo que llevamos de lanzamientos anuales o por otro motivo, pero igual va siendo hora de que el erizo frene un poco. Va siendo hora de tener una entrega que brille en todas sus facetas, y que se pueda recomendar sin un «pero».

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a great two-for-one deal, but for us, the antihero's half of the package steals the show. While the remaster of the 13-year-old platformer is perfectly fine, Shadow's brand new campaign outshines it with much improved gameplay and level design. The older game definitely shows its age in some regards, but bundling together one of the most beloved Sonic titles with one of the best 3D entries in recent memory makes for a compelling double feature.

Sonic x Shadow Generations rappresenta un’eccezionale rivisitazione che riesce a combinare armoniosamente elementi del passato e del presente, offrendo un’avventura doppia per Sonic e Shadow. La campagna dedicata a Shadow costituisce un’aggiunta significativa, con le sue nuove abilità che infondono una ventata di aria fresca nel gameplay. Anche se alcuni livelli non raggiungono lo stesso livello di qualità, l’opera di Sonic Team riesce comunque a mantenere un alto grado di coinvolgimento grazie alla sua narrazione nostalgica, ai miglioramenti grafici e alla colonna sonora impeccabile. Per chi è un fan della serie, questo titolo è un must-play, al netto di alcune piccole imperfezioni. Immergersi in questa avventura è un’esperienza che vale assolutamente la pena. La velocità e l’intensità del mondo di Sonic e Shadow non solo affascinano ma offrono anche un’esperienza di gioco avvincente e memorabile, soprattutto per chi apprezza queste caratteristiche distintive del franchise.

Tirando le somme, questo Sonic x Shadow Generations ha decisamente superato le nostre aspettative. La seconda avventura dedicata a Shadow, che inizialmente poteva sembrare solamente un DLC, si dimostra qualcosa di ben più esteso, sia a livello di durata che a livello concettuale, unendo il meglio della boost era con idee prese dal nuovo corso di Sonic. Non può avere l’effetto “wow” che aveva nel 2011, ma stiamo comunque parlando di un nuovo capitolo 3D di Sonic davvero molto divertente da giocare. Il che non è affatto scontato, come ci insegna la storia di questo personaggio.

À l’arrivée, Sonic X Shadow Generations est une expérience satisfaisante capable de contenter les déçus de Frontiers. Une édition ultime qui vaut le détour surtout pour le nouveau chapitre consacré à Shadow qui offre davantage de possibilités de gameplay, une mise en scène et un rythme plus grisants que par le passé. Certes, c’est parfois trop, le hub est inutile, il faut encore travailler sur la maniabilité et peaufiner d’autres éléments, mais on voit là une lettre d’intention sur ce que le futur de la saga pourrait être. Ce n'est pas encore la formule ultime, mais on s'en rapproche. Par contre, si vous avez déjà plié la partie sur le hérisson bleu en 2011, c’est difficile de vous conseiller d’y retourner étant donné que les améliorations sont quasi inexistantes.

Shadow at least manages to somewhat mitigate the clumsy controls thanks to some interesting gameplay wrinkles. The title also looks good, but probably won't bring the pair of hedgehogs back to the forefront of the genre.
