I’m not sure how Ember Lab did it, but I walked away from Kena: Bridge of Spirits with my expectations surpassed to a much further extent than I could have imagined. The visuals are breathtaking, the gameplay evolves in meaningful ways, and the heart the story contains has no bounds. You’ll find it hard to come across a more wholesome and beautiful game in 2021 than Kena: Bridge of Spirits, it’s everything I wanted it to be and more.

Pour son coup d'essai, Ember Lab réussit tout simplement un coup de maître. En livrant un jeu d'action-aventure idéalement réussi sur tous les plans, le studio pourtant néophyte ne se contente pas de "juste" remplir à la perfection le cahier des charges d'une excellente production. Kena : Bridge of Spirits est une bouffée d'air frais délicieuse, qui lie à merveille la grâce d'un film d'animation somptueux et l'intelligence de game design d'un jeu vidéo ingénieux, aux inspirations multiples. Quant à Ember Lab, face à autant de maîtrise de leur sujet pour une première réalisation, il convient de leur tirer un grand coup de chapeau et d'attendre déjà de pied ferme leur prochaine création !

Kena: Bridge of Spirits è un gioco sorprendente. L'opera prima di Ember Labs colpisce sotto ogni punto di vista, a cominciare da una storia matura ma trattata con incredibile delicatezza e servita da filmati ottimamente realizzati, fino a un gameplay pulito nella sua semplicità; privo di orpelli inutili, si presenta coeso in ogni sua parte e ben legato alla narrazione, votato anche a un certo backtracking per i completisti. Il viaggio di Kena cattura fin dai primi momenti, intriga e diverte, commuove anche nelle sue sfaccettature, offre spunti di riflessione sulla vita e gli affetti, sulle responsabilità e il peso di decisioni che spesso non dipendono da noi. Al netto di leggerissime sbavature, se l'esordio del team di sviluppo è questo non vediamo l'ora di scoprire che cos'hanno in serbo per noi in futuro.

Da provare assolutamente Kena: Bridge of Spirits è un titolo decisamente particolare. Infatti, riesce a fornire un gameplay "vecchio stile", ovvero evitando inutili orpelli tanto da donare ai giocatori una esperienza semplice e lineare. Ovviamente, il merito della buona riuscita va anche al comparto narrativo, che attraverso un racconto incredibilmente profondo riesce a far emozionare il videogiocatore durante l'intero viaggio della protagonista. Tutto questo stupisce se pensiamo che il titolo è stato realizzato da un team di sole 14 persone. Escludendo alcune sbavature di natura tecnica, i ragazzi di Ember Lab hanno davanti un florido futuro. PRO - Storia di ottima caratura - Gameplay pulito e privo di inutili orpelli - Cutscene e filmati di eccellente fattura - Personaggi ben caratterizzati CONTRO - Sbavature tecniche di leggera entità - L'utilizzo delle maschere è macchinoso - Controllare i gruppi di Rot è un'esperienza non proprio comoda

In definitiva, Kena: Bridge of Spirits è riuscito addirittura ad andare oltre le nostre più rosee aspettative, dimostrando di essere un'opera senza dubbio derivativa per quanto concerne molte delle meccaniche di gioco, ma unica e forte abbastanza per potersi erigere con prepotenza come un grande action-adventure. Si tratta di una delle prime sorprese che arrivano da studi di sviluppo meno blasonati, in grado di presentarsi al grande pubblico con la bellezza evocativa dei lungometraggi Disney-Pixar, e con la concretezza che solo in pochi riescono ad avere.
