While the idea of a Western studio completely reworking what is arguably FromSoftware’s most important title ever was initially worrying for many fans, what Bluepoint Games has accomplished with Demon’s Souls is something special. This is a game that honors its origins without being afraid to also modernize them, and though it might not offer enough modernization for some, this is probably the best balance between keeping what works and upgrading what didn’t that we could have gotten.

Demon's Souls is the must-have PlayStation 5 exclusive as the showstopper of the launch lineup. It's so close to being a perfect 10. But some archaic mechanics left untouched, as well as questionable deluxe edition items giving an unfair head start, just prevent it from reaching that pinnacle. Nevertheless, if you want justification of why the PlayStation 5 is worth upgrading to at launch, look no further than Demon's Souls.

Difficile de ne pas finir en adoration face à ce remake de Demon's Souls, tant Bluepoint Games parvient à donner du corps et un potentiel immersif au jeu de base. Il suffit d'en voir quelques images pour s'en convaincre : techniquement irréprochable (avec du 60 fps), la refonte du titre de From Software se pare d'une DA somptueuse qui absorbe le joueur dans le Royaume de Bolétaria, où chaque pierre se fait l'écho d'une fantaisie quasi-mythologique. On enchaînera ainsi les cinq mondes de l'aventure (environ 15h pour une première run en ayant ses habitudes) avec le sentiment de vivre une véritable aventure, à l'affût du moindre détail. Mais aussi du moindre monstre. Car oui, la formule et le level design de Demon's Souls restent inchangés, toujours exigeants, même si les habitués s'en sortiront sans trop de problèmes (les patterns des boss sont assez limités), au risque de ne pas ressentir ce sentiment d'accomplissement si marquant. Mais rien de grave, l'aventure ne s'essouffle jamais. Bluepoint a de plus eu le bon goût de revoir certains détails, notamment sur l'interface, pour rendre le tout plus fluide et moins maladroit. Un must pour les habitués de From Software, et plus globalement : pour tous les possesseurs de PS5.

Un remake che convince Il remake di Bluepoint di Demon’s Souls per PS5, sebbene non a pieni voti, convince. Demon’s Souls riesce a catturare - al netto di alcuni livelli e meccaniche che snaturano la produzione stessa - lo spirito del gioco originale. L'esperienza non è certamente per tutti, ma se riuscite a carpire rapidamente la ripida curva di apprendimento e il combat system, Demon's Souls vi regalerà un'esperienza gratificante, grazie ad un'atmosfera implacabile e opprimente che quasi sicuramente non dimenticherete mai. PRO - Bluepoint Games è riuscita a riproporre il primo Soulslike in modo convincente - Demon's Souls è di gran lunga uno dei migliori giochi che si possano provare su console in questo momento - Grande libertà nell'affrontare i mondi di gioco o di saltarli per poi tornarci successivamente CONTRO - Alcune scelte di design stonano con l'atmosfera del gioco originale - Boss un po' deludenti - Non per tutti

Giocando Demon's Souls in questa sua veste rinnovata, è straordinario constatare ancora una volta come fosse una già splendida crisalide di ciò che sarebbero successivamente state le opere di From Software. Il gioco è un tale concentrato di genialità da rappresentare ancora oggi una perfetta introduzione al genere per i neofiti, e una bellissima esperienza per coloro che ormai amano i soulslike con tutta l'anima. Detto questo, l'opera di Miyazaki non è invecchiata con grazia in certi elementi, e riportarne la struttura così fedelmente - seppur perfettamente comprensibile - è stato parzialmente un errore da parte di Bluepoint. Dal punto di vista tecnico, però, il lavoro fatto per questo remake è seriamente degno di lode, e dimostra ancora una volta le notevoli capacità del team coinvolto. Il giorno che questi sviluppatori oseranno di più, forse, ci troveremo davanti un vero capolavoro. Per ora accontentiamoci del bellissimo ritorno di un grande classico.
